Sidebar, and this may have been done before... If could own one and only one vintage arcade cabinet game (not these new fangled modified multigame machines) what would it be?

I could narrow it down to Galaga and Defender but can't decide from there.

:goodposting:
I remember an early interview with the guy who created Defender. He said he thought no one would ever score more than 100,000 points. Found that he had trouble getting there so he figured if he couldn't as the game designer know one would. Of course he was mistaken. I poured a lot of quarters into that machine. IIRC my highest score was like 340,000 or so. Was at the top of the little on base pizza/sub shop machine for a long time.

Sit down Star Wars.My daughter's boyfriend was telling me about Rogue Galaxy and Eternal Darkness. Anyone play these?
Eternal Darkness was a really fun game. The "sanity effects" concept was pretty neat.
Never heard of it but some quick reading makes it seem like it was an interesting concept.

The concept was taken a step further in Amnesia: The Dark Descent and even used in Batman: Arkham Asylum (think Scarecrow).

OK that gives me a point of reference.

I will probably get ripped for it but I found MOH:AA boring.
To each their own. It was very linear but it was early on in the WW2 FPS genre so I loved it. If it came out now, I probably wouldn't even play it.

Resident Evil games have to be on my list as well. If you have great surround sound (and, I'm sure you do), these games scared the #### out of me.
Cosign. I only played the first Resident Evil (playstation) but it was like watching/playing an interactive horror movie. Scared the piss out of me at times. I think that was the last modern game I actually finished.
