I think its safe to say its been the talent, they've rotated through like 15 TEs while Gronk and Hernandez were there and none of them even sniffed Sudfelds ability already,Well we should find out quickly if it really is Gronk or the system.
Sudfeld could share the field with Gronk + Amendola + Vereen/WR2.Hype a little out of control considering Gronk may only miss a few games
It's not like, IF Sudfeld can produce, he'll necessarily sit on the bench when Gronk is in.Hype a little out of control considering Gronk may only miss a few games
I drafted him at 14.08 in a 12 team ppr, best ball scoring, dynasty startup.Sudfeld could share the field with Gronk + Amendola + Vereen/WR2.Not drafting him on his 6-8 games he might be the starter.Hype a little out of control considering Gronk may only miss a few games
Still curious what his dynasty startup value is.
Seems like a great price for best ball, did you grab Gronk as well by any chance?I drafted him at 14.08 in a 12 team ppr, best ball scoring, dynasty startup.Sudfeld could share the field with Gronk + Amendola + Vereen/WR2.Not drafting him on his 6-8 games he might be the starter.Hype a little out of control considering Gronk may only miss a few games

Sadly no. Gronk went 3.07. I went with David Wilson at 3.05.Seems like a great price for best ball, did you grab Gronk as well by any chance?I drafted him at 14.08 in a 12 team ppr, best ball scoring, dynasty startup.Sudfeld could share the field with Gronk + Amendola + Vereen/WR2.Not drafting him on his 6-8 games he might be the starter.Hype a little out of control considering Gronk may only miss a few games

Yeah, but in that scenario (once Gronk is back basically) I have a hard time seeing myself plug Sudfeld into the lineup. I would figure him to be quite hit or miss.Sudfeld could share the field with Gronk + Amendola + Vereen/WR2.Hype a little out of control considering Gronk may only miss a few games
The Boston Globe reiterates that Zach Sudfeld "looks like a lock" to be the Patriots top tight end in Week 1.
Fantasy owners brushing off Sudfeld because he's an undrafted rookie need to change their tune. He's been running as the Pats' No. 1 tight end ever since camp opened and has been their best player at the position in both practices and games. If Sudfeld performs well while Rob Gronkowski (back surgery) is out, the Patriots could be emboldened to use their preferred two-tight end sets upon Gronk's return. In that scenario, the 6'7/253 Sudfeld would play the Aaron Hernandez role.

From the link above;just took a flyer on him, how does he move for a TE? slow?
Thanks, yeah I saw that but I was wondering how that transfers and how he looks in practice and game situations. That time seems a little slow, but 40 times can be overrated. I'll be watching for him tonight. From the link above;just took a flyer on him, how does he move for a TE? slow?
"4.73-second 40-yard dash"
Hernandez did awfully well when both he and Gronk were playing. Not that I am saying Sudfeld will be that good, but if he plays that well, Belichick obviously has no qualms about featuring two TEs on a regular basis.Hype a little out of control considering Gronk may only miss a few games
You don't draft 6'7" 250 lbers for their breakaway speed. If he's got hands, he's open.BlackMamba24 said:Thanks, yeah I saw that but I was wondering how that transfers and how he looks in practice and game situations. Gospel truth - If the fantasy community knew of his injury history, we'd all be hearing repeated stupid comments like "he'll help for maybe three games before he is hurt" or "I'm not drafting a guy who can't stay healthy". But we do not hear a single word about that right now.The Claymaker said:Here is another very cool article with some great info on Sudfeld's blocking in college, which apparently was superb.

Its probably because very few people at all if any are drafting Sudfeld as their TE1.Gospel truth - If the fantasy community knew of his injury history, we'd all be hearing repeated stupid comments like "he'll help for maybe three games before he is hurt" or "I'm not drafting a guy who can't stay healthy". Players are SO fickle. We used to hear about how Adrian Peterson could not stay healthy at Oklahoma, and now nobody says a word about his health history. same with Stafford.
Might be a hint at Gronk's health, may mean nothing.ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported on NFL Insiders that the Patriots are "putting out feelers" about available tight ends.
Jacob Tamme, Clay Harbor, and Tony Moeaki are just a few names that could be available. Whether the Patriots' interest in tight ends has anything to do with their expectations on Rob Gronkowski's (back surgery) recovery is impossible to say. It's also possible they're not pleased with Daniel Fells and Jake Ballard behind Zach Sudfeld. The Boston Herald reported Monday that Gronk remains "right on schedule" for a return in mid-September.
The fact is will never truly have enough data points to definitively decide whether a player deserves the "injury prone" label. There was an article way back on rotoworld I believe that explained this rather well.Gospel truth - If the fantasy community knew of his injury history, we'd all be hearing repeated stupid comments like "he'll help for maybe three games before he is hurt" or "I'm not drafting a guy who can't stay healthy". This is as bad as the Kevin Smith RB/Det hype last yearHype a little out of control considering Gronk may only miss a few games
It just NE te desperation really.Out of control, the hype, at this point.
Who's a handcuff to what now?I don't believe in TE handcuffs. If that was so then Ben Watson would have been a stud. He'll have a few catches here and there but I don't see him consistantly dominating #1 defenses from the start. Maybe in 2-3 seasons when he bulks up he can be a Kyle Rudolph or Martellus Bennett kind of TE for FF.
Patriots TE Zach Sudfeld was benched in the third preseason game Thursday night after losing a fumble following a 20-yard catch.
In the interest of fairness, Sudfeld wasn't the lone Patriot benched. Shane Vereen and Brandon Bolden also got the pine-needle treatment after losing first-half fumbles of their own. Sudfeld only lasted one drive against the Lions. He'll probably play extensively in the third exhibition game. Through three preseason contests, Sudfeld has four receptions for 74 yards and a touchdown. While his potential is very intriguing, we'd be very hard pressed to rely on Sudfeld as a fantasy starter.
I'm not too worried about his benching. Ridley gets benched during the regular season when he fumbles. This is simply how the Patriots operate. Belichick is sending a clear message, as he should. Also, who do they have that's better than Sudfeld? I'm confident that Zach will be the week 1 starter. I'm certainly not going to start him over Witten, but I'll certainly use him as trade bait.Rotoworld:

Watch much of Tom Brady at Michigan? This is getting a bit outta hand. I watched Sudfeld @ Nevada and he wasnt like some crazy standout TE. He wasnt even 2nd team all conference in the Mountain West.

Is that bad?In the 1999 season, Brady led Michigan to an overtime win in the Orange Bowl over Alabama, throwing for 369 yards and four touchdowns.
No doubt, been thinking that myself... of course after I drafted Sudfeld.I have a sneaky suspicion once the games count Ballard is the guy you want. Sometimes I'm wrong but I'm more often right.
all of itHow much BBID's is he worth out of $100 in a PPR dynasty ?
The point is you never know and I could do the same analogy from almost every NFL team. Suds was well worth a look at months ago in dynasty leagues and is now worthy of being drafted in 12 team redrafts. It's all about opportunity.Watch much of Tom Brady at Michigan? This is getting a bit outta hand. I watched Sudfeld @ Nevada and he wasnt like some crazy standout TE. He was All-Big Ten honorable mention both years he started, which while not awesome, still means he was a good college QB for a great program. Remember, that the year before he was starting Michigan won the National Championship, i.e. not the same Michigan that lost to App St. a few years ago.In the 1999 season, Brady led Michigan to an overtime win in the Orange Bowl over Alabama, throwing for 369 yards and four touchdowns.
You can try and compare Sudfeld to Brady, but that is a horrible comparison. Brady is the best all time 6th round (or best late) draft pick, i.e. not a comparable player to every low draft pick.
Dancing with the devil when you attempt to play scrub of the week. Better hope Gronk comes back sooner than later.Took him to pair with gronkowski while gronk is on the pine. Why not? If it dont work out, Ill hit the wire for awhile
Since you took exception to using Brady as a comparison, how about Antonio Gates? He went undrafted and didn't have great college stats. Actually some of his stats were pretty impressive, but those were on the basketball court.Watch much of Tom Brady at Michigan? This is getting a bit outta hand.
