QB Andy Dalton, CAR (2 Viewers)

Bears coach Matt Nagy reiterated that Andy Dalton is the starting quarterback ahead of organized team activities.

“Andy is the starter,” Nagy said via NFL Media on Sunday. “Andy’s going to get the one reps.” Nagy also defended his choice by stating 33-year-old Dalton “is essentially like a rookie as well” as both quarterbacks continue learning the playbook. Fields obviously gives the team the best (only?) chance to win against the Rams in Week 1, but that would entail nixing the Alex Smith-Patrick Mahomes model Nagy has been consumed by. Ryan Pace has also been on the same page as Chicago's head coach this offseason, confirming multiple times that Dalton is in fact the starter. It will be interesting to see if Fields is even allowed to push for the No. 1 job in camp.

I'll believe it when I I see it if Fields isn't starting Week 1. Makes no sense that a 33 year old journeyman newcomer starts.

But then it's fairly obvious they've had zero plan this off-season for a QB.

Whatever happened to grooming a QB?  So many QBs are ruined early in their career.
It's a lost art... especially when you take a QB in the top half of round 1.  They cost so much money now that if you sit them for 3 years, you only have a very small window before they take up a massive chunk of your cap.

Bears coach Matt Nagy insisted that QB Andy Dalton would be the Bears' starting quarterback for Week 1.

When Chris Collinsworth asked Nagy if there was any way that Justin Fields would start Week 1, Nagy replied "No....Andy is our starter." Nagy has been unrelenting in supporting Dalton as the starter ever since Chicago traded up to select Fields with the No. 11 overall pick. Fields looks like the complete package as a prospect but may have to wait a few weeks before seeing any action. Dalton has 142 starts under his belt but his most recent reps were lackluster at best. He threw 14 touchdowns and eight interceptions while starting in place of Dak Prescott last year. Given the glut of weapons he was working with, those numbers are wildly underwhelming. Dalton will start in Week 1 barring a change of heart from Nagy but his tenure is unlikely to last long. Once the Bears string together a few losses in a row, expect Nagy to pull the ripcord and insert Fields into the lineup.

Ownership told Pace/Nagy “we need to see progress THIS YEAR.” They respond by moving up in the draft, taking a franchise QB, and now they want to let him sit all year a part Mahommes. I don’t think they’re going to be given that luxury.

IMO Fields will be starting VS DET WK 4 or LV WK 5. It’s just an opinion. IMO drafting a franchise QB but not evaluating him in game is not the definition of progress.

But then again it’s quite possible Nagy might be stupid enough to think he can get away with losing with Andy all year.

There's almost no chance Dalton does a Fitzmagic or Alex Smith impersonation. Fields has started 34 college games and is healthy. And he'll play a lot in the preseason. He should start early.

The Bears' early season schedule has some tough Ds. LAR, CIN, CLE, DET, LV, GB, TB, SF, PIT, BAL, then the Lions again. Dalton will struggle. Maybe Fields starts in the 2nd DET game. Herbert has set the bar very high.

Andy Dalton is reportedly still on track to be the Bears Week 1 starter.

The Chicago Sun Times' Patrick Finley reported Wednesday that Dalton has looked like "the most consistent quarterback Matt Nagy has ever coached." Matt Nagy's previous quarterbacks have been Mitchell Trubisky, Nick Foles, Chase Daniel and Tyler Bray. So far, Nagy's plan of bringing in a solid veteran presence to help ease Justin Fields' transition seems to be working out. Fields has flashed immense physical tools in training camp so far, but the Bears believe he need some seasoning before taking over as their staring quarterback. Fields' superior talent may be difficult to keep on the sidelines if Dalton's consistency waivers outside of the practice field.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports "initial exams" on Andy Dalton's knee showed he didn't tear his ACL or damage his MCL.

Dalton looks to have suffered a bone bruise in the Bears' Week 2 win over the Bengals. Dalton's was a non-contact injury as he scampered toward the sideline late in the second quarter. Justin Fields entered the game and struggled to get anything going, completing 6-of-13 passes for 60 yards and an interception and rushing for 31 yards on ten attempts. Fields would be a plug-and-play starter in 12-team leagues if Dalton sits this week against Cleveland.

After Bears head coach Matt Nagy wouldn't commit to Andy Dalton (knee) as the team's starter, a PR official said Dalton is the team's starting QB when healthy.

Nagy on Monday morning fudged his answer when asked if Dalton is Chicago's starter when fully healthy. "That’s something that I’m not going to get into with scheme," Nagy said. The team then dispatched its PR apparatus to clear up any confusion created by Nagy. Dalton -- who reportedly avoided a major knee injury in Week 2 -- apparently will start over Justin Fields if he's able to suit up in Week 3 against the Browns. Nagy is steadfastly committed to rolling with Dalton for as long as he possibly can. It's a bold strategy.

I am glad he’s not hurt because I don’t want anyone injured but how often does a player leave a game with a non-contact knee injury and it turns out to be minor? He’s a lucky guy!

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Andy Dalton suffered a bruised knee bone and his status for Week 3 is unclear.

The Bears PR made it official that Dalton remained their starter when healthy but that is still up in the air. Dalton avoided a serious injury but could be on the sidelines this week while recovering. Dalton struggled in Week 1 and got crushed by the Rams but bounced back in his limited reps last week. He completed all but two of his 11 attempts and scored once, adding 25 yards on the ground. Unless Dalton completely bottoms out, Matt Nagy is committed to him as the team's starter. If Dalton can play through the injury versus the Browns, Justin Fields will stay on the sidelines outside of a few one-off packages that Nagy has drawn up for him.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports Bears QB Andy Dalton (knee) is considered "week-to-week."

"As of this moment, Justin Fields does appear to be in line to make his first career NFL start on Sunday," Pelissero added. Dalton hasn't been officially ruled out just yet but a week-to-week timeline suggests he'll be sidelined beyond Sunday's matchup against Cleveland. With 11 carries for 34 yards and a score on just 47 offensive snaps this year, Fields should be viewed as a high-end streamer despite his tough on-paper matchup opposite the Browns' front-seven.

Bears coach Matt Nagy said Andy Dalton (knee) is the team's starting quarterback when healthy.

This comes off the heels of Nagy announcing first-round rookie Justin FIelds as the starter for the Bears' Week 3 matchup with the Browns. Dalton is currently considered week-to-week with a bruised bone in his knee. Nagy can say all he wants right now but if Fields looks like the real deal is his time as the starter, it will be hard for him to pull the rookie from the starting lineup. Nick Foles will serve as the backup to Fields this week. With his immense rushing upside, Fields can be slotted in as a borderline QB1 in his debut.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Andy Dalton (knee) "could miss an additional week or two depending on how quickly he recovers."

Dalton is currently dealing with a bruised bone in his knee that has already eliminated him from playing in Week 3. Justin Fields is drawing the start versus Cleveland but Matt Nagy made it clear that Dalton is the starter when healthy. If Fields looks good in multiple starts, it will be hard for Nagy to stick with Dalton given his lackluster start to the year. Nagy will make the bar for Fields to clear artificially high but he has a shot at usurping Dalton if he plays well. Fields rushed 10 times for 31 yards in relief of Dalton last week. Based on his rushing potential, he'll be a borderline QB1 whenever he starts.

Andy Dalton (knee) was limited in Wednesday's practice.

Meanwhile, Justin Fields (hand) was a full participant. Speaking Wednesday, coach Matt Nagy said Dalton remains the team's starter if healthy. That will be something the Bears figure out later in the week. David Montgomery and Allen Robinson are the only usable Bears in fantasy, and even A-Rob hasn't been any good due to the poor quarterback play.

Andy Dalton (knee) is questionable for Week 4 against the Lions.

Dalton was limited for every practice this week while Justin Fields was removed from the injury report altogether. Even so, coach Matt Nagy said the team's starting quarterback (excluding Nick Foles) will be a game-time decision. It's a tough sell for Fields outside of SuperFlex leagues given Nagy's bumbling gameplan to make life 'easier' for the rookie in Week 3. David Montgomery remains the only player of confidence among Chicago's skill players for fantasy.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Andy Dalton is expected to start Thursday's Week 12 game against the Lions.

Per RapSheet, the "turnaround is too quick" for Justin Fields to recover from his ribs injury suffered Week 11 against the Ravens. In relief Sunday, Dalton went 11-of-23 for 201 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The Thanksgiving slate kicks off at 12:30 PM ET with a likely tilt between Dalton and Tim Boyle's Lions. It will be a good time to get a pre-turkey nap.

I feel bad for anyone coming to the Bears team. Always mishandled by these buffoons. I guess that's why the Bears blow so much on these guys. They won't come any other way.

Bears coach Matt Nagy said Andy Dalton will start in Week 12 against the Lions.

Don't eat before kick-off. While it may seem like Detroit's defense turned the corner out of their Week 9 bye, matchups against Mason Rudolph and Baker Mayfield would make any unit look like an elite one. Dalton only completed 48% of his passes upon stepping in for Justin Fields (ribs) on Sunday but could produce as a thin streamer in a plus matchup. We suggest using this time on Thursday for something more fun, like talking to your relatives about politics.

Andy Dalton completed 24-of-39 passes for 317 yards, one touchdown and an interception in the Bears' 16-14, Thanksgiving win over the Lions.

For better or worse, Dalton helped save coach Matt Nagy's job with his first 300-yard game of the season. Touchdown drives were elusive, though Dalton did help orient the Bears for three field goals, including the game-winner with :01 remaining. That one could have been a touchdown with the Bears having 1st-and-goal from the four, but this being Nagy, the field goal was the play. Dalton's touchdown was a 17-yard strike to Jimmy Graham of all people. For the second straight week, the Red Rifle relentlessly worked his connection with Darnell Mooney, finding the sophomore speedster for 5/123 on eight targets. Justin Fields (ribs) is expected to be healthy enough to return for Week 13 against the Cardinals, but Dalton probably gives the Bears their best chance to win right now.

Saints signed QB Andy Dalton, formerly of the Bears, to a one-year contract worth up to $6 million.

Dalton would figure to serve as Jameis Winston's backup, with Taysom Hill reportedly focusing on a full conversion to tight end in 2022. Dalton was predictably disastrous in Matt Nagy's caveman offense last year in Chicago, throwing eight touchdowns to nine picks over eight games. Entering his age-35 season, Dalton -- who had the league's seventh worst completion rate over expected in 2021 -- will continue his backup tour of various franchises in New Orleans.

New Saints QB Andy Dalton said he does not expect to challenge Jameis Winston for the starting job.

"This is Jameis' thing and I'm here to help him out any way I can," Dalton said at his introductory presser. The quarterbacks' salaries make that pretty clear — Dalton has a one-year, $6 million deal compared to Winston's 2/$28 — but it can't be taken 100 percent for granted that 28-year-old turnover machine Winston will keep the job all year after tearing his ACL in 2021. Dalton, of course, has turnover issues of his own. He wouldn't really solve any of Winston's problems and has plenty of his own. Things could eventually get weird under center in New Orleans, but Dalton is right that it will be Winston under center Week 1.

Taysom Hill at this point in his career is a better qb than Dalton. Basically NO is hiring him to be a mentor.
Since he's still listed as a TE I'm thinking of using my last flex spot on him in case he gets some action at QB.
I'm using him in the TE spot...forget the flex. Tried once, burned by it, trying twice this week.
Yeah, we don't have a TE position, they are counted as a WR that can be flexed.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports "there is an opportunity for" Andy Dalton to "keep starting moving forward "

He has reportedly impressed the Saints. Jameis Winston (back/ankle) is active today as a backup. Some would just call this "a benching," as that's what it sounds like on the surface. Dalton will be a risky QB2 in superflex leagues this week against a game Bengals defense.

Andy Dalton completed 17-of-32 targets for 162 yards and a touchdown in New Orleans' 30-26, Week 6 loss to the Bengals.

He hit Tre'Quan Smith for a slant on the offense's second drive of the day, after a mis-handled punt gave the Saints good field position. He pretty much stayed out of the way for the rest of the game as the TaysomCat and other run-game goodies created 228 rushing yards on 34 carries. Given the ball with a four-point deficit after Ja'Marr Chase's shattering touchdown, Dalton checked his way down to about the 40-yard-line before getting sacked and throwing a fourth-and-17 prayer a little ahead of a tripped Marquez Callaway. If Dalton draws another start against the Cardinals next week, he'll remain a low-end QB2.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports there is a "real chance" Andy Dalton remains the Saints' starter going forward.

Per Rapsheet, Dalton's "calming influence" could help him keep the job over Jameis Winston. Dalton definitely clears that lowest possible bar. He has also limited his turnovers, but he isn't contributing big plays. We would also fully expect the turnovers to come, especially if Michael Thomas and Jarvis Landry continue to remain sidelined. We suppose Dalton may be a better real life option than Winston, but the Saints are probably kidding themselves. Winston is obviously the preferred option in fantasy.

Andy Dalton completed 30-of-47 passes for 361 yards, four touchdowns and three interceptions in the Saints' 42-34, Week 7 loss to the Cardinals.

Two of Dalton's interceptions were pick-sixes housed by the Cardinals on back-to-back second quarter drives. The miscues essentially decided the game, and gave Dalton an entire half of comeback/trail-mode attempts. All three of Dalton's picks came in one 15-minute span. The first house call was Marquez Callaway's fault after the ball bounced off his hands into the waiting arms of Marco Wilson. The second was all Dalton as he never saw Isaiah Simmons dropping back. "Other than that," Dalton did well to post the numbers he did with a makeshift supporting cast, funneling scores to Rashid Shaheed, Taysom Hill and Juwan Johnson x2. There is just no such thing as "other than that" when you throw two pick-sixes. Dalton's problem in his battle with Jameis Winston is that he scarcely throws fewer picks, while Winston remains the better bet to generate instant offense. Dalton is the favorite to start Week 8 against Las Vegas, but we would not consider it a sure thing.
Oct 20, 2022, 11:35 PM ET

Speaking Monday, Saints head coach Dennis Allen did not name a starting quarterback for the team's Week 8 matchup against the Raiders.

With Andy Dalton and Jameis Winston both nearing full health, Allen and the Saints have a decision to make at the quarterback position. Dalton, who has started the last four games for the Saints, threw for 361-4-3 in the Saints' Week 7 loss to the Cardinals, with two of his interceptions being returned for scores. A move to Winston wouldn't exactly be an endorsement for better ball security, but the veteran quarterback did start the first three games of the season before suffering back and ankle injuries. The Saints don't need to commit to a starter right away and could opt to drag this decision out for most of the week.

Lets go Red Rocket! Rolling with him this week after multiple failed attempts at finding a QB. (Wilson, Goff, Ryan :x).

Andy Dalton completed 17-of-27 attempts for 174 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions in the Saints' 20-10 Week 10 loss to the Steelers.

Dalton went Full Dalton in this one, throwing hospital balls to Chris Olave and missing wide open targets time and again. His two picks probably should have been four if Steelers defenders had slightly better hands. Dalton took two sacks from a rejuvenated Pittsburgh front seven bolstered by the return of EDGE T.J. Watt. Not even a pass heavy game script -- the Saints ran the ball just nine times against the Steelers -- could save Dalton's fantasy day. His disastrous performance could very well lead to Jameis Winston retaking the team's starting job if he's healthy enough to do so. Dalton should only be rostered in superflex leagues.
