Florida Politics (2 Viewers)

moRonness with another voter suppression attempt.  FoxNews the only ones allowed into the signing of his bill. Oboy, he's on his way to destruction. 3 lawsuits already filed.

Typical moRonness

Good news is we've become the covid variant mecca of the US

Winning!!
We would not even know the variant numbers if moRonness had his way. The Orlando Sentinel had to sue the FL Dept of Health in March to get the numbers released. Of course the data that is released comes from the gov's slotted monkey who replaced Rebecca Jones.

So just another day in the sunshine state.

And now he wants the government interjecting itself into private industry.  I guess it won't be that interesting to watch him attempt to walk that line.  He's not even pretending to be for smaller government now.

"I think this is something that demands serious federal attention," he said. "You can't just say it's a private pipeline ... The U.S. government needs to be involved. We need the federal government to step up and help."
And I don't disagree with his comment.  He's right.  And I've been saying similar things for the better part of 15 years.  It's just funny to hear the blowhard spew this nonsense after proclaiming his belief in smaller government and allowing businesses to do what they feel is right for their business.  This position goes completely against his "capitalist trope" he's been trying to sell since he stepped foot in office.

You guys really are a broken record. I guess the alternative was better.

Not sure what you mean.  This is and the cruise stuff is the first I've seen the double standard.  If pointing it out in both situations is "broken record" I guess that's what I am.  But why focus on me and not the fact that he's full of it?  Had he not done this, it wouldn't be an issue.

And the alternative isn't a factor.  That's the past, nothing can be done about that.  I've moved on.  Looking back in some sort of "well, what choice did I have" kind of mindset isn't productive.  Decisions we can't change were made.  Now it's time to deal in the hear and now.  FWIW, I didn't vote for either of those yahoos.

Initially, I thought the cruise battle was going to blow over.  Now I'm not so sure:

Woman I know runs one the talent acquisition arms for one of the ships and has been told to focus on getting talent on the west coast to beef up their experiences there.  She's in Miami.
I think there's too much money at stake for both sides (Norwegian and Florida). They'll figure it out someway.

I'm more interested in watching to see if other cruise lines jump on board with Florida or with Norwegian honestly.  The cruise lines don't need DeSantis as much as DeSantis needs them.

Why is noone talking about the sports gambling bill morRoness signed today? Seminoles stroked ole Ronnie boy under the table to further maintain control of FL gambling. I never had a vote. I wanted the DK and Fanduel like to be able to come in without having to third party the Seminoles. Nope.

They both need each other.  Florida accounts for 60% of all cruise passengers in the US.  The cruise companies make their profits from on-board purchases.  You think the cruise industry is going to give that up?  But the cruise lines also create a ton of jobs and an influx of money to local businesses (~9B in 2019 for Florida).

State Supreme Court has found that controversial state medical marijuana regulations are constitutional.

This part seems particularly ridiculous

The 2017 law regulating medical marijuana required that companies seeking licenses had to operate in every aspect of the business. Under the law, that meant companies had to “cultivate, process, transport, and dispense” medical marijuana.

However, the amendment that passed with 71% defined a medical marijuana treatment center as a company that did any one of those things: “an entity that acquires, cultivates, possesses, processes...OR administers marijuana.”

This is what this state legislature does....did the same kind of bull#### with the felon voting rights.

Not surprising, Florida sued over law to ban social media content blocking

>>Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill Monday that will allow the state to fine large social media sites if they inactivate a statewide politician's account and will let any Floridian sue those companies if they feel like they've been treated unfairly.

NetChoice, a lobbying firm that represents Twitter, Facebook and other online companies, and the Computer and Communications Industry Association sued, saying the law violates First Amendment rights.

The suit filed in the U.S. District Court in Tallahassee says the law prevents companies from protecting users, advertisers and the public from “pornography, terrorist incitement, false propaganda created and spread by hostile foreign governments, calls for genocide or race-based violence, disinformation regarding Covid-19 vaccines, fraudulent schemes, egregious violations of personal privacy, counterfeit goods and other violations of intellectual property rights, bullying and harassment, conspiracy theories denying the Holocaust or 9/11, and dangerous computer viruses.”

Federal law prevents internet companies from being sued for removing posts and federal law trumps state law when there is a conflict.

Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act exempts websites from being sued for removing content deemed to be “obscene, lewd, lascivious, filthy, excessively violent, harassing, or otherwise objectionable” as long as the companies are acting in “good faith.”<<

How did I miss this last little treat?  Didn't know he was continuing his overreach (which he's claimed time after time to have great disdain for) by telling companies what they HAVE to allow.  This dude can't get out of his own way.

The sad part is, I don't really disagree with his position (as long as it's not a violation of their ToS that people agree to) but his :hophead: keeps biting him in the ### at every turn.  This is like those cartoons where the character is boxing it's own shadow.

Rebeka Jones is now an official WHISTLEBLOWER!

I've been following her trek closely since the pandemic started. The Gov has done his best to shut her up. He has discredited her, fired her and busted her.

"For now, Jones’ whistleblower victory stands to be a win over state secrecy for the rest of us."

Hopefully we can find out is she is the nutcase the Gov claims or if she really knows the straight poop and takes the Trumpian Gov down.

Blow That Whistle

She is most assuredly a nutcase. But I am glad she gets protections afforded to her
Agree, shes probably a loon, but shes been validated every single time a care facility raises the question of why the numbers they are providing arent making it on the portal correctly.

Not sure how she gets protection based on the fact everything she's said is made up and never happened.  Like, literally made up out of thin air.

It's mind-boggling.
I'm not doubting that she's a wacko and she's made stuff up, but unless thats been assessed formally through governmental channels she should be protected until it is.

Speaking specifically to the "fudge the numbers " assertion (dont know what the crazy stuff she made up is everyone keeps talking about) are we supposed to dismiss query after query to the reporting discrepencies over the last 8 months as plain coincidence?

Whacko girl gonna be coming out with some very, very interesting straight poop. Can't wait...

Nikki Fried officially running for Gov.

“It’s time to break the rigged, corrupt system in Florida with #SomethingNew,” she wrote as a caption on her campaign announcement video.

She has a much better chance of unseating the current goober than Crist.

Fried has a better chance than Crist, but unseating DeSantis will be tough whose popularity has increased. Plus new voters from other states lean Republican. And DeSantis has a huge campaign warchest.

He only beat Gillum by .04%. I voted for the meth rehabbing, 2 naked men in his hotel room guy.

Fried can do something here. Something that FL really needs.

I still have faith he'll trip over his own "changed the word for male apparatus" any day now. His fake covid numbers just went to weekly reports instead of daily. There is no telling what the true data is.

Fake covid numbers?  Wat?  You're out of your mind.

The price of not rejecting the MSM.

I may be out of my mind but I ain't drinking that Kool-aid. Help yourself to another serving.
Well, when you make stuff up you sound absurd.  If you believe your made up covid numbers then YOU are the one drinking the cool aid.

I'd like to see where you're getting your info from.  Tell me its not Rebekah Jones.

For awareness....we had a running segment on our local news that ran weekly from about May through January that was caused by healthcare facilities openly questioning why the numbers they were reporting weren't making it into the dashboard the way they reported them.  That segment just kind of died away in Jan/Feb time frame and I haven't seen one sense.  I want to be clear, this was the healthcare industry making public statements saying the numbers they were giving the state weren't being shown on the state dashboard correctly.

There was never an explanation offered, but a few times, the numbers were changed without comment.  Most times they were not.  Whether nefarious or not, I can't say for sure, but there was something not right about the whole thing.  A couple of organizations here in Central Florida stopped participating all together.  I know my local news channel did a couple things on their website in May, but then it changed to a weekly segment on the night's news.  It's News 6 here in Orlando...their website is www.clickorlando.com.  They are probably still there if you want to read about them.

Even the Democrat in charge of the covid reporting for Florida says that it's all BS and that everything is on the up and up.  I'm still trying to understand what you guys think is going on here?

Again, if you're all basing this on Rebekah Jones, then you've been seriously mislead.  She's a liar and attention seeking grifter.

I'm not engrossed in Florida politics but an observation that this thread reads a lot like what many (mostly conservatives) have been saying about the nationwide covid numbers and guidance all along...changing and manipulated.

I just told you what I'm basing it on and she wasn't part of the equation.  I also said I didn't know if it was intentional or not.  All I know is many groups across the state reported to local news outlets around the state that the numbers they were providing the state were not making it into the dashboard correctly and it happened for months.  That's all I KNOW about this for sure.

Not exactly...this just came out yesterday.

Enlighten yourself.

We've been on about a dozen cruises. All out of FL except one in NOLA. I personally will be steering clear of RCL as I prefer a fully vaccinated ship and that will be our only choice if we ever decide to board again.
It appears that the cruise lines are just going around DeSantis on this one.  His proclamation to us the public from the TV screen is that cruise lines cannot treat unvaccinated people different from vaccinated and that all have to be allowed on the ships.  Carnival and Royal Caribbean seem to be allowing them all on, but those who can't provide vaccination records will be subject to testing and monitoring throughout their cruise experience that vaccinated people will not have to go through.  People continue to ignore this guy all the time and nothing ever happens to them.  It's either that or his claims on TV are different than what's on paper.  That wouldn't surprise me either.

I envy Florida for having DeSantis in charge. Guy is a top notch Governor. Along with Abbott, Haley, and Noem. If Trump doesnt run in 2024, I hope DeSantis does.
