@Angry Beavers - this is the one I've been doing: https://hundredpushups.com/so the potato diet then?
just gotta find the motivation - and getting all of the junk food out of the house helps as well - HTH
@Canacuna what is this pushup program you speak of?
and realize if you are working out which adds muscle which makes the weight gain that much more impressive. :flex:
A lot but not as many as you're hopingHow many calories does 5 hours of shoveling burn?
that's the one I did and a few others in the otis thread@Angry Beavers - this is the one I've been doing: https://hundredpushups.com/
I used it once several years ago and made some really good progress. And then life and laziness happened and now I'm starting all over, haha.
Wonderful! Keep it up!Clown Car said:I’m down another 2, at 206. Started at 210. So -4 overall. That’s a big deal for me.
That program worked really well until the end but if you're over 40 like a lot of us then you might want to redo weeks you've already finished. The goal is to build up your base and they do a good job working you to fatigue but when you do sets of 35, 40, 25, 25, and then struggle with that last set of 50, your ego is going to tell you you finished it but your muscles don't care. Thanks for hundredpushup website. It is tough as I don't want to chance the gym and running - well it getting boring after a while and it is getting snowy as well - looking for something else!
LOOK AT ME - Starting on week 3 on Monday !
good to know - over 50 actually. I would like to think I have a decent base, but I don't. I got to 48 just hoping out of the chair cold with a nice steady pace but I know I have not lifted squat for several months.....That program worked really well until the end but if you're over 40 like a lot of us then you might want to redo weeks you've already finished. This is really the part that has helped me. We would do competitions in the office periodically and I would enjoy the same success, but the pandemic has been hard. Keep it up!Just weighed in this morning and realized I’ve hit my initial target weight. Decided to reset for another 5 lb loss in the next month for 3 reasons:
1. Headed to my parents’ house for xmas, and they have horrible eating patterns, which I often get pulled into. Need to build in some cushion for likely weight gain while there.
2. My ultimate goal is to get to a better level of fitness than I had while living in NYC. That would involved a) adding upper body muscle — thus the 100 push-up deal — and still being another 4-5 lbs lighter than I currently am.
3. Without a goal, it will be hard for me to maintain my discipline. That’s a problem to solve down the road, but for now, this new way of eating isn’t embedded enough in my routine to consider another approach yet.
For anyone who just read this thread for the first time or anyone who has been trying this out but it hasn’t worked yet — trust me, if it can work for me, it can work for anyone. My lifelong eating habits have been subpar. My parents eat decently at best. Mom was massively overweight much of her life. Dad had high metabolism (due to smoking and anxiety) but eats poorly. My friends and co-workers know me as “the guy who loves donuts.”
But just the simplicity of the MyFitnessPal app paired with publicly committing to a goal in here has really worked. Everytime I consider eating something, I check out calories in that ######## app. And look at how many calories I have left in the day.
The one thing I haven’t done is weight myself every day. Others do, and that works for them. It wouldn’t work for me — has to be more about the daily process than the daily outcome for me. But to each their own, gotta do what works for each of us.
Thanks again to everyone posting in here and helping hold me (and others) accountable.
Well done. Like you wrote, it’s not rocket science. Exercise, reasonable eating.I am down 10 lbs as of this morning. The Monday after thanksgiving was the heaviest I’ve ever been, so it’s really not that much of an achievement, I lost 5 lbs in the first couple days. Need to keep the momentum going the rest of this year and just make this my lifestyle now. Lots of walks, push-up, and reasonable eating pegged at about 2k calories per day ought to do it.
I’ve been forcing myself to go to bed early which I think has been a huge help. You can’t eat when you’re sleeping.
Totally get it. I would often eat a pint of ice cream at night. After everyone went to bed. Or a half bag of M&Ms.In the past I would seriously eat 1000 calories at night as a “snack” just because I was stoned and bored more than anything else. It’s hard to be healthy with habits like that. I don’t think I fully realized how bad it had gotten, the late night eating. Looking back I think it accounts for the majority of my weight gain (which was close to 50 pounds) over the last two years.
Agreed. It is the late night boredom eating that is the killer for me as well.Totally get it. I would often eat a pint of ice cream at night. After everyone went to bed. Or a half bag of M&Ms.
That's a win in and of itself. This is the hardest time of year to lose weight, so being down anything at this point is a victory. You can use it as a springboard next year.Sorry guys. Ive let us down tonight. my wife brought home coca dusted almonds from aldi. Those things are like crack to me. Then I had some Christmas cookies they made and some popcorn. What a mess.
No way Im weighing myself tomorrow morning. Ill check in on Christmas eve. At this point, just hoping to hit 5lbs
BUT, had it not been for this thread, there is zero doubt I would have gained that 5lbs so there is that
Slow and steady. Down to 216. I did lose over an inch in the waist, so that's good. I was pleasantly surprised when I had to tighten the belt buckle more than normal. Finally moving in the right direction. Weighed in this morning at 217. Looking at the trend line, I may not hit 10 by Xmas, but I'll at least have a good start to carry into the New Year.
Oof. I've heard getting the shingles is just terrible, hope you feel better soon.I am down a couple of more pounds since this time last week, but I don't really recommend the method. I ended up coming down shingles toward the end of last week. I haven't been able to keep up with the exercise, but at least it's limiting some bad food and drink choices.
Never to late to do a reset. Start tonight.Well, I have Otis’d this thing right up. Didn’t lose right away like I usually do, got caught up in some busy stuff, and in general only half heartedly attempted to lose. So to sum up, I weigh today what I weighed the Monday that we started. And all that without a sip of alcohol.
Either way, awesome progressNov 30: 234.4

Was expecting that little bump, too many chocolate covered cherries and blueberries recently.
Really awesome to see this continued demonstration of discipline.Back down a half pound today. Almost to Christmas!

220.4 this morning. Started at 229.2. Probably won't make a full 10lbs, but am still hoping to get to 219.9 by Christmas day.222 this morning. Had to tighten the belt a notch this morning, that was awesome! Need 3lbs to hit the -10 goal by Christmas. I think it's doable.224. Feeling good. Targeting 1500 calories a day but generally ending up around 1700-1800.227 this morning. Not much working out, but using myfitnesspal to track calories is huge. It helps me be conscious of how much I'm shoveling in. Otherwise it's too easy to walk by the kitchen and grab a granola bar or other munchy, multiplied by several times a day and it's easy to get fat. I also try to remind myself that the feeling I have is being thirsty, not hungry.I should rename my FBG handle as Tub-o-lard. Law school was not kind to my waistline and it got even worse after kids. Starting weight: 229 lbs. Baby steps.
Tremendous progress!220.4 this morning. Started at 229.2. Probably won't make a full 10lbs, but am still hoping to get to 219.9 by Christmas day.
Ouch! That sucksI am down a couple of more pounds since this time last week, but I don't really recommend the method. I ended up coming down shingles toward the end of last week. I haven't been able to keep up with the exercise, but at least it's limiting some bad food and drink choices.
WINNER!!!Well, I have Otis’d this thing right up. Didn’t lose right away like I usually do, got caught up in some busy stuff, and in general only half heartedly attempted to lose. So to sum up, I weigh today what I weighed the Monday that we started. And all that without a sip of alcohol.
I won't get on again for a few days either, pretty sure I have not lost much during the holidays but again i'll say that 1,600, 1.800, 2000, whatever the total exercise minutes or numbers I finish up with, it definitely kept me going from 180 all the way back over 200 lbs which would be a tragedy. I likely am somewhere in the 185 range where I started but had it not been for some movement on my part, this would have been a disaster.Sorry guys. Ive let us down tonight. my wife brought home coca dusted almonds from aldi. Those things are like crack to me. Then I had some Christmas cookies they made and some popcorn. What a mess.

I was going to suggest bfred change the title to lose 10 LBS between new years and Valentine's day. I'm in again. I like these defined 5-6 week intervals, as I feel it's more mentally manageable and gives me a realistic short term goal.I didnt do it. BUT, back on the horse after today. Thx for not letting me gain 10 pounds. Fire up the Im losing 10 pounds for Valentines day thread and Ill be in.
Final weigh-in is 220.4 this morning. Not quite 9 pounds. Very happy with that.220.4 this morning. Started at 229.2. Probably won't make a full 10lbs, but am still hoping to get to 219.9 by Christmas day.
In.Today was rough, as expected. Very poor food choices all day. Starting over from scratch tomorrow — back to my routine from the past month. Hopefully the past two days didn’t cause too much damage!
Anyone else with me? 8-10 lbs between now and Valentine’s Day. Let’s do this. Don’t wait until New Year’s Day. Strike while the iron is hot.
