Isaiah Crowell (3 Viewers)

Yeah I think that's about right. So if he goes somewhere that can be a top 12 offense, maybe he can finish higher than 24? I don't think anyone is saying is great, but a high RB2 season seems reasonable to me if he goes to the right place. But as has been mentioned there aren't too many of those.
I think he may become a victim of supply and demand and with his baggage, he could have a hard time finding a landing spot.

You still have CJ Anderson, TJ Yeldon, Jay Ajayi, Spencer Ware, Alex Collins, TY Montgomery and a few others out there as free agents and a rookie class of running backs coming in with only a few teams left that have any kind of a real opportunity for carries out there.

With his mediocre career to date, past troubles in college, tweeting the picture of a police officer being beheaded and wiping his ### with the football during a game last season, teams may have him low on their list of guys they want to bring in. All it takes is one team of course, and he surely has some talent, but guys come and go quickly in the NFL and it would be far from shocking seeing him on an AAF roster next year.

The 26-year-old back has started 51 games in five seasons with the Browns and Jets. He has 3803 career rushing yards and 27 touchdowns. He has averaged 4.3 yards per carry in his career including a career high 4.8 yards per carry last season.
I'd like to see what this guy can do playing for someone other than the 2013-2018 Browns/Jets.

I hear you. I would take his talent over any of those names, and I really don't think there are more than a couple rookie RBs that will emerge. But to your point it may not be likely that he gets picked up. I know there aren't many spots that are open.

My friends here in Houston tell me that the Texans owner, Bob McNair, is a  stickler for not bringing in anyone with character issues. That may or may not be true. I'm not sure they would take him after the cop comment controversy. His wiping incident probably wouldn't help either.
That would be one hell of a trick.

Free agent RB Isaiah Crowell will visit the Raiders on Thursday.

This will be Crowell's first visit since being released by the Jets 12 days ago after the team signed Le'Veon Bell. Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, coach Jon Gruden is "hoping" to add Crowell to the Raiders' backfield mix.

Raiders agreed to terms with RB Isaiah Crowell, formerly of the Jets, on a one-year contract.

Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the deal is worth "up to" $2.5 million. Crowell's addition is a hedge against Marshawn Lynch's return. 33-year-old Lynch is expected to decide his 2019 status following the draft. Crowell was excellent in spot duty for Gang Green last season, turning 143 carries into 685 yards (4.79 YPC). It is worth noting that 219 of those yards came in one game. A big-play threat who can catch a pass in a pinch, Crowell should make the Raiders' 53-man roster and has a decent chance at carving out a real role. Doug Martin is also a free agent, while DeAndre Washington failed to capture coach Jon Gruden's imagination last year. Jalen Richard is more of a passing-game specialist.

As a dynasty owner of Crowell, I actually like this landing spot as it’s one of the few ones where he could feasibly win the starting role

I had him down as a likely cut yesterday. But I like the landing spot as well. Still a solid chance they draft a RB high.

I mean, he's certainly better than Doug Martin. Sounds like Gruden would happily welcome Lynch back still, but if not, I'm not sure any rookie RB starts over Crowell, at least not week 1.

Just hoping for some good games or even preseason hype to get some value in a trade. Who am I kidding. If he has preseason hype I'm back on the stoop! CAWCAW!
It's hard to see him building any trade value. I didnt get any decent offers even after his 200 yard game. This guy will probably retire on my roster.

I like Crowell.  He is not a great RB but he is good.   He should get a real shot at being the Raiders starting RB.   Martin is done.  Lynch may not even come back.

The raiders seem one of the least talented backfields in the league to me. There’s really only Richard, who is a cop back. Pretty much best case scenario I’d say.
Gruden seems to love Muscle Hamster tho so if he is back he will certainly cut into Crowell’s carries. I guess Lynch is still an unknown? I’m probably in the minority but the little I’ve watched them (who watches the Raiders?), I think Richard and Washington could be a decent duo. The Raiders seem to be another team that rather than giving someone or two someone’s a shot long term, they’re constantly shuffling and it’s so hard to evaluate.

I don't know if Doug Martin will be back. I'm doubting it at this point. I have heard from local beat writers that Martin is asking for more then the Raiders are willing to pay at this time. So unless his asking price comes down I think Martin is out.

What was so crowded about Cleveland’s and New York’s backfields?
less about crowding and more about being down 2tds by the 1st quarter and the rungame being abandoned.

Big on this guy's talent. Not a stud but can be a strong back, 100%. Id like to see him in the 225 carry range, and the kid can catch!

Damn.  I wish people would stop making stuff up to excuse Crowell’s performance - or should we say lack of performance.  Poor offensive lines?  He was running behind strong CLE O lines anchored by Joe Thomas.  Before last season in NY, Crowel has had at worst a solid O line to run behind and at times it was top 6.

I don’t get some of the myth.  Someone made up the narrative that Crowell was an exceptional RB the year he was draft eligible and now some people just refuse to let it go and admit it was wrong despite his performance to date.  There’s always the excuses when he doesn’t live up to expectations just to perpetuate the myth.

He was part of the problem in CLE - they wanted to run the ball to shorten games but he just didn’t get it done well enough to become a bell cow or keep CLE competitive.  Geez, he’s running behind Thomas and Bitonio and the O line is the reason he isn’t awesome?  C’mon.

This guy is a solid starting RB in the NFL when he’s on.  No more.  He doesn’t compare favorably to a guy like Hunt or RBs like that.  Not even close.  He just doesn't create a whole lot for himself and he doesn’t have any single exceptional trait that supercedes the rest of the amalgam of his solid but hardly great skills.  He can bust off a nice play every once in a while when everything goes right - just like a whole bunch of solid but hardly great RBs in the NFL.

And just to make my position clear, I am a Crowell owner who traded for him hoping to get a decent FF RB2.

Now he’s in OAK where I guess he’ll have all sorts of excuses when he once again fails to become the reliable upper tier FF RB1 that he never was and never will be.

Ok but just how afraid of the pass were opposing defenses? Wouldn't you stack the box and dare them to throw?

He's obviously not a top back, but I do think he is better than many think.  He averaged 4.8 YPC last season despite playing in a crappy Jets offense.
Yeah but, yeah but if you don't count his 219 yards in game it was less than 4 ypc.

There are plenty of successful RBs on the career rushing list who played with crappy QBs and somehow still managed to get the job done.
Nobody is talking about someone that is going to be on any career rushing list. We're talking about a guy that can be a servicable RB2. That's about it. I thought he did well enough with Cleveland and NY despite their bad QB play. He had better OLs than people think? Ok well point taken. But let's not measure him against the career rushing list. Nobody is making that argument.

I think we’re making the same argument from opposite directions.

I consider Crowell a successful RB.  Since he has been in the league, only McCoy, L. Miller, Gore, Gurley, Ingram, Demarco Murray, Bell and Elliot have more rushing yards,  His best season was in 2016 when Cleveland was 30th in yards and 31st in scoring.  Crowell had 198 carries for 952 yards and 7 TD's to go along with 40 receptions and 319 yards.  He is a definitive upgrade over Doug Martin

Here's the 2016 CLE starters:  Joe Thomas, Spencer Drango, Cam Erving, John Greco, Austin Pasztor. link

Despite JT, this was a bad OL.

Mostly likely just cut bait. Veteran RB with an injury no player has ever really come back from.
Huh?  I think a few players have had successful careers after a torn achilles injury. Demaryius Thomas comes to mind. Pretty sure another or two escape my memory.

Still, I'd cut bait on Isiah Crowell, unless there's no cost for IR-ing him.
