***Official Donald J. Trump Impeachment (Whistleblower) Thread*** (10 Viewers)

Perhaps his words can be taken at face value?
Ok.

On January 16, 1999, a Southern politician with a mop of faintly graying hair stood on the floor of the United States Senate and made a striking proclamation about what it meant to impeach a president.

“You don’t even have to be convicted of a crime to lose your job in this constitutional republic if this body determines that your conduct as a public official is clearly out of bounds in your role,” the politician said. “Impeachment is not about punishment. Impeachment is about cleansing the office. Impeachment is about restoring honor and integrity to the office.”

"The day Richard Nixon failed to answer that subpoena is the day he was subject to impeachment because he took the power from Congress over the impeachment process away from Congress, and he became the judge and jury," Graham said two decades ago.

Lindsey Graham, the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, says he won't read any of the transcripts, and dismissed Sondland's reversal.

"I've written the whole process off ... I think this is a bunch of B.S."

Per @alanhe

ETA: Graham on 9/25.
Well I guess at least he's not lying for once?

Oh come on, you can’t actually believe that! He’s playing both sides, trying to not be convicted for lying and also not directly implicating Trump until he has to. He talked directly to Trump when the QPQ was called out in the texts and you think he didn’t talk to Trump about this?
  I'm just pointing out what was said and why the WH is using it as a defense. Think what you will.

I'm still waiting for that direct link so I think it's important.

Talk about burying your head in the sand.  John McCain is rolling over in his grave when he sees what Graham has become.

First commercial. By the way this is CRAY CRAY.

What in the world do they have on Lindsey?
He was one of the few ethical Republican leaders. He has done a complete 180. I've never seen anything like it.

I hope the next Democratic President includes some of the more upstanding Republicans in his/her administration.  That could go a long way.  Probably the most important thing our next President can do.
Seriously, is there such a thing right now? We literally didn't see a single R vote for impeachment proceedings. We didn't see a single shred of R support during the Russia investigation. Since nearly day 1 we have been waiting for that "Republican Hero" to put country above party and I can't recall a single one. Even Mueller didn't have the balls to interview Trump or Trump Jr.

As of now, it appears that Trump will go on record for soliciting Russia - if they are listening - to find Hillary's emails. Illegal payoffs to porn stars - as an unindicted co-conspirator. Quid pro quo with Ukraine over Biden - doubling down by asking China for dirt. Flagrant violations of the Emoluments clause. Firing FBI directors to obstruct investigations. Bragging about sexual assault. Literal kidnapping of kids and permanently separating them from their parents and caging them etc. etc. etc. #### the Republican party - they don't deserve a seat at the table any longer.

Can we get rid of the whistleblower term in the thread title.  Might as well add the janitor to the title.  Everyone saying the same thing.  Whistleblower not relevant anymore.

sad thing is this how most if not all of the Republicans in Congress will act.

Has gone from Comical to just downright shameful.  History will not only be unkind to the Trump Presidency but also those who turned a blind eye and didn't speak out about his atrocities.   People will look back in 20 years and wonder WTF were people doing back then.

They were pulling a Lindsey...which is to deny wrongdoing as long as you're able, and then to believe Trump over your own lying eyes.  Keep them shut...don't look Ethel!

But how about that Kurt Suziki!!  Exciting times.

GOP is like a 4 year old standing in the corner, hands over his ears, as the house burns down around him.

NOTHING TO SEE HERE MOVE ALONG!!!

I really wonder what is going on behind closed doors. These aren't stupid people; at least the Senate Rs are not. They know how bad this all is. I mean I can't really envision Rand Paul walking into the breakfast room this morning while they all high five each other and pat him on the back for trying to out the whistleblower at a rally on national TV.  They all hold up their danishes and cheer about not looking at any evidence with hearty guffaws? I just can't see this. And I am baffled. I do not know what the GOP end game is here.

When all you can do is tread water or drown, you tread water as long as you can before you go under.

They know it's bad but they also know that the public will forget all about it once Trump is out of the White House.

What happened with the news about Vindman that Trump promised we'd hear about very soon?

Did I miss it?
In 2 weeks.  Like always.

Same playbook O’Reilly liked to use.  Right after he was fired he was always claiming he’d have some new explosive info he’d release in a few weeks.  It really speaks to people attention span.

Between the crooked trump admin or the crooked Hillary or the crooked Bidens if someone, anyone, doesn’t end up in prison the system is broken. Someone is crooked! Perhaps, most likely, all of them!

Lock them up, lock them up. Him, her, whatever their preferred pronoun is, lock them all up and give the people the country back.

Just catching up.  So Guliani was left to organize the quid pro quo while Trump instructed people not to (wink, wink), and now Trump is going to leave Guliani out to dry.  Does that about sums it up?

I guess I don't see what they are doing as treading water - they are going all in on the crazy. There are plenty of ways to show support for Trump so as to not piss off the base without diving head first into the mess.

All that dirty Russian campaign money probably hangs over a lot of these guys.  In for a penny, in for a pound.

I think @Joe Bryant was asking about these types of things in a different thread. Unfortunately with technology comes the ability to use it in less than ethical ways. We are going to see much more of these types of "bots" going into the election year trying to influence both the public and the politicians. And it won't be all domestic actors.

Assuming we as a Republic make it till then. This unchecked flagrant abuse of truth and abuse of power but the executive coupled with at least one of the houses of Congress running cover means that there will be another executive that will push beyond the actions of Trump to further distort and bend the Republic to his (and it will almost certainly be a man) personal goals. That is the road to autocracy.

If Trump was re-elected and this scandal was uncovered in 2021, I believe that Republicans would already be abandoning him. It would be a lot easier for them to do so once he’s a lame duck.

When I get to the future and look back, the historian will have known and Ill ask the historian, “what did you know then though?”

I mean, ask yourself that (if you’re a historian.)

I know it's a pipe dream, but can we please get a Romney/Kerry Competence Party ticket in 2020? They'll run on a one term pledge, they'll only nominate SCOTUS justices that are 65+ and moderate (insert Merrick Garland joke here), they'll split up the job of the presidency., and they'll be effective.

I honestly don't even care who is in charge of stuff anymore as long as we can go back to people who are hyper competent and won't sell out the republic to the any bidder.

I know we'll learn nothing from all of this, but I wish we'd learn that our differences are pretty small.

Edit: We've gotten to the part of the story where the allegedly small government, libertarians are trying to out legal whistle blowers. The dudes who celebrated the guys who blatantly disregarded all laws and procedures and endangered American lives to blow the whistle on government activity in the wrongest way possible are literally begging the media to out someone who did it the right way. I feel like the South Park Scientology episode where they have to have the disclaimer "this is what Scientologists actually believe" because it's so ####### crazy.
