Thoughts? Pretty clear second yellow there. But still a well taken goal.

KP probably freaked coworkers out again after he jumped up on his desk and danced a jig
Technically no.

Unless its a cynical foul, when an advantage is played - as happened in the match - no yellow card is awarded.

Technically lmao.

Late. Reckless. Cynical (to stop the break). Take your pick of any of those as yellows, regardless of advantage.

Law 12

If the referee plays the advantage for an offence for which a caution/sending-off would have been issued had play been stopped, this caution/sending-off must be issued when the ball is next out of play. However, if the offence was denying the opposing team an obvious goal-scoring opportunity, the player is cautioned for unsporting behaviour; if the offence was interfering with or stopping a promising attack, the player is not cautioned.

Also - if it makes everyone feel better - it was a make-up call for the obvious dive that led to the first YC (which should never have been issued, so Bergvall ended with one cautionable offense...)

First one was soft for sure. Definitely a foul regardless of contact, shouldn't be a yellow.

What you posted didn't exactly counter what I said though as it wasn't only about stopping a promising attack. Even without promising attack, that's still a clear yellow for the tackle itself- late and reckless.

But doesn't take away with a fantastic goal... 18yo!

Are there any of these FA cup matches that would an interesting watch??

Today? Not really. Bournemouth/WBA might not be too bad if the home team have rotated a lot and the Baggies haven't. Outside of Arsenal/United tomorrow, the only match that looked like it could be interesting in the whole round was Wycombe/Pompey but that was yesterday anyway

Yeah, I didn't see Plymouth as having much chance at all away to Brentford based on eye test of them against us

Tamworth vs Totts is going to be amazing.

It will. Have you seen the Tamworth stands? Amazing. It's what the FA cup is all about.

It is the exact ingredient that the NBA Cup lacks (and will never have sadly).

It's a shame that the ref is also on Spurs

Man U v Ars hasn't been great, but both teams seem to be laying out all out there. Reffing hasn't been tippy top.
Understatement.

After a quietish first half the game got going in the second. Maguire was tremendous (yeah I can give him credit when deserved). The defense was on it and starting to gell. Bayindir came up huge multiple times. Bruno with a great goal, Ugarte was excellent.

Yoro, Martinez and Zirkzee stepping up to take PKs!!!

Ref was Arsenal's player of the game while Havertz was United's.

I thought Bruno, Maguire and the GK were fantastic

Zirkzee has looked to be playing scared whenever I've seen him- poor touches and worse decision making showing a lack of confidence. But he was really good here, and credit to the coach for rolling with his as #5- clearly he's showing confidence in training to get that spot.

Eta... And yeah- Havertz was pretty awful across the board.

Yeah it has not been a good couple weeks for him and he definitely played better today. The ball moved with him and he got into good spots. After getting booed by his own fans, to step up and score his PK to seal the win is huge for him.
I am not sure if he is a 9 or would be better suited in one of the 10s under Amorim's 3-4-2-1.

A lot to build off in the last couple games for this team. Hope they keep it up.

I know Arse wasn't finishing well- and they had some really good opportunities- but otherwise, I thought United finally looked organized in the back through the MF defensively. The problem for me, they looked disjointed going forward- too often the attacking player(s) were isolated and needing to do a lot of work while outnumbered. But I guess to be expected with a new coach implementing his own methods.

over the summer, like everybody else, I had today Jan 14th on my EPL calendar for a league deciding fixture between Liverpool and Forest(?!).
It is amazing to think, with all the talk about an LP win ending the title race, United in a relegation battle and all the other ongoing storylines, that we are only half way through the season. Everyone has to play everyone again still.

Agree with you. The biggest thing I noticed was that as a team they were running back on defense. Hustling to get into position and organizing. That has been missing. I think that will be easier to secure then going forward, mostly because their players do not normally fit the 3-4-2-1.

Carragher does a nice breakdown of the tactics required and the mindset that is missing:
When they start going forward, the current wingbacks which are converted defenders, do not instinctually move up into the higher space. They work the defensive line. They are supposed to have the width. Traditional wingers like Garnacho and Amad are asked to play inside off the striker. Not their most comfortable spot and neither are overly creative like Bruno.

I think they will need to invest in wingbacks that fit the system. I am liking what I see out of Ugarte and Mainoo in the middle, but am curious if Ugarte/Collyer could play there, moving Mainoo up next to Bruno. Yes it leaves Garnacho and Amad out at times. Amad has done well as a wingback, at least going forward so he could fill in there with Maz on the otherside.

As we see the defenders settling in, I hope to see the attack do the same. Progress forward as a team.

this was about Forest, not LP.

see the joke went like this...

Forest is playing LP in a big top of the table battle. forest. see... because they're a season away from coming into the league and one place away from getting relegated but now they're hovering at the top of the table. hahaha. hilarious. funny.
