18 Overrated Beers - via Deadspin (1 Viewer)

Can I get an update on Lone Star beer. Used to be my favorite cheap beer but they restructured the business and I moved outside their distribution area.

There are 3 beers I absolutely won't drink again. Cruz Campo (Spanish) Big Hurt (Frank Thomas branded malt beer) and Heineken. Old Style is very close.

Outside of those, I haven't met a beer I absolutely would not drink again.

I like Stella.
Stella would be a perfectly good beer if it were compared to other ordinary beers rather than to other Belgians. Most of my favorite beers are Belgians (Duvel, Gulden Draak, Chimay, etc.), and Stella is just nothing like them at all. Stella is more like Amstel or something. It has zero Belgian magic to it.

Somewhat the reverse of that, I like both Blue Moon and Shock Top better than Hoegaarden.

If anyone ever starts up a beer exchange I want this. But especially only if it has a picture of Frank Thomas on the label.

I have wanted a cold Lone Star 16oz ever since watching True Detective.

The other..I have hated Corona from the first time I ever had it 20 years ago. The women seem to love it though. Gun to my head I like Miller better than Pabst..only in a bottle though.

Confession about the power of marketing. Back when I thought it was fancy shmancy, I used to order Stella pulled in a special glass at a trendy bar in LA. Then learned it's considered swill

("wife beater") in Europe - and suddenly it tasted like piss. There is a danger in these lists. Hell, I enjoy a Blue Moon with an orange wedge. As soon as you get pinned as unsophisticated for

drinking it, that's when you suddenly taste something you didn't before... Before that, it was good.

Probably the case with most of these...
Agree to a significant extent with this. Heck, if I'm on a beach in Mexico my first choice is a corona with lime.

1. Firestone Walker Union Jack; Paso Robles, CA; 7.5 percent ABV
Not sure if it is #1 but this is an outstanding IPA.
Yeah, we'll go with #1
Holy crap, I was gonna ask one of you west coast fellows to mail me some, but two local liquor stores carry it. :excited:

The reviews are through the roof.

I was at Wakefield Liquors last night and they carry it four different Firestone Walker brands including Union Jack. They are all single bottles though but you can mix and match six packs of craft beer there. I picked up a couple Union Jack, a couple Double IPAs and their Summer IPA.

I'm with you. If I see someone drinking a Heineken, I have zero respect for them. I totally agree with this article, I have had all but about two of the beers mentioned. Being from Texas, I even agree with his take on Shiner Bock. It's not even a real bock, and it is artificially colored... fools just don't know.

I like Moosehead too, but it can be a lil skunky. Definitely best beer on list.

Yuengling.

:lmao:

(I agree - funny that you don't need to explain why)
I'm still confused. Why does it not need an explanation? I didn't even realize people outside of the Mid Atlantic knew what Yuengling was.
I thought the same thing until I went to my aunt/uncle's place in Tampa and found they had a brewery down there. I was floored.
Interesting. Because I lived in Houston and don't ever remember seeing it or hearing about it. Same with Cincinnati.

Don't know why not in Cincy, but for Houston it's because it is not sold west of the Mississippi River.

The guy made a funny. We understand each other, no explanation necessary. It's seen as some kind of specialty beer in some parts but it's very, very average.

That is just such an odd thing to say. Internet beer nerds are the biggest geeks on the internet.
On the flip side, if I see a dude casually sipping on a Rochefort 10, I instantly consider him an uber-genius and role model in all manly things, provided he's using proper glassware.

Plus, if firstseason happens to be at a bar in DC when he sees this, there's a good chance the Heine drinker that he doesn't respect might soak his ol' lady's walls if he lets her out of his sight. That last part might not be a prerequisite either.

That could be allowable, depending on the fullness of his beard.
