Wow you spent less than I did on wide receivers...I think that it could very well be a winning strategy, just hope mine score more than yours...I just made sure I took all starters at the position like KJ, Terrell and Parker. Someone on their teams have to make catches and score TD's...

The stats on players selected will be interesting. My team matches 50%+ of those posted.

Based on the weekly cutdowns then if we only have 6000 entries we are all through to week #5. Does this sound right?
I checked and we will have more than 9,000 for sure. We will likely be very close to 10,000.

I was thinking about Kevin Johnson as well, but thought I'd better take Lloyd after talking him up all preseason. Seemed like bad karma not to do so.

A lot of people waited until today to turn in their players (like me).

Hello DD...Any chance next year you can crunch the values closer to the start of the season? It just seems like there were too many no brainers out there and too many players that shouldn't have been drafted.

Agreed...there are going to be very few teams without Quentin and Charles Rogers on their team. Probably a lot of Suggs as well.

I am surprised I haven't seen more of Dunn. At 1 point per reception he is good value at $27. IMO.

Dunn is an ok choice, but Westbrook, Brown, and T. Jones are better values for a few $'s more.

went QBBC and DTBC. WRs are too unpredicable so i went best value. Thought DDavis was good value but backed him up with Hollings, Westbrook should be great in this scoring. Suggs was the cheapest starter left as a 3rd RB.Delhomme - 10BJohnson - 9Plummer - 11(look familiar? )DDavis - 50Moe - 6Westbrook - 31Hollings - 2Suggs - 15 :thumbdown:AJohnson - 31EParker - 2JSmith - 28Stallworth - 10Rogers - 9  Bennett - 4  Branch - 13Kinney - 4Jolley - 2Nedney - 4Graham - 2GB - 4Wash - 3

I wanted top quality players at every position but WR, where having seven on your roster for three spots would ordinarily make me want WR quality, but in this case, where most people won't have that quality, I don't need it either. Here's my squad by position:McNabbHasselbeckVinnie--- should give me very good QB scoring most weeksKevin JonesChris BrownSuggsWheatleyFargas--- four good shots at RB. anyone not taking Chris Brown or Suggs is crazy, if only because the weeks those guys blow up, the people who lose will be the ones who don't have them.Charles Rogers/Roy WilliamsFerguson/DriverFitzgeraldD BennettK Washington--- Not a strong receiving crew, but each of those guys should put up decent numbers once in a while, and I wanted to insure Rogers. HeapJolley --- Jolley's one of my favorite cheap sleeper TEs because Teyo's been slow to develop. Heap should give me good scoring from a position most people scrimped on.Jeff WilkinsJosh Brown--- I wanted two quality kickers. Kicker scoring is not huge in this league, but between the two of them I should get double digit scoring fairly often. BaltimoreDenver--- Denver's one of my favorite Ds this year, and Baltimore is my favorite.

It's amazing to think that out of say, 9,500 players, 3,500 would wait until the very last day. I sorely over-estimated the value of week #3 bye players based upon the 6,000 figure. Damn! Bristol might win the sig bet!I'm curious. How many players created a roster on the last day, last year?

Final tally is 10,386 records. Some of those will be bad entries as well as the staff used this form to enter their picks (and are ineligible).Everyone is safely past the 12,000 first cut. Most everyone should make it to week 2 as well (cut is at 10,000). By week 3 (the first week of the byes) this should get very interesting.David

Just for the sake of clarity, is it a true statement that over 4,000 contestants filled out a roster today, for the very first time this season?

OK. I am an idiot. I thought the deadline was tomorrow night. I had just completed my final submission and tried to save it when I got the "Too Bad, So Sad" message. Will we at some point be able to review (not edit) our official entry? I was makingquite a few changes and I'm not quite sure what my final line-up ended up as. :(

Yeah, and they all copied all used the rosters posted here before Dodds froze them as a basis, or at least as a source for good value picks...

I tried for an even balance among the skill positions - paying special attention to bye weeks. Weeks 4 and 5 are going to be tough to get through. Guess we will see. :D

QB - 31

RB - 88

WR - 73

TE - 41

PK - 6

D - 11
I don't think anyone that's listed their TE's so far had Gonzo. I actually selected him first and worked around that. Guess that means I took too many "potential" players for RB and WR, but I thought if I took enough of those, then 2 or 3 could hit for good points in a week. I also felt that I didn't have to look for as many $2 players as I thought I might if had I selected super-stud RB's/WR's.QB:

Green $18

Johnson $9

Testaverde $4

RB:

Brown $32

Griffin $20

Suggs $15

J.Jones $15

M.Williams $6

WR:

Walker $22

Meshawn $17

Kennison $11

Stallworth $10

Rogers $9

Parker $2

Terrell $2

TE:

Gonzo $39

Teyo Johnson $2

PK

Nedney $4

Graham $2

DEF

Phily $6

Minn $5

I am surprised I haven't seen more of Dunn. At 1 point per reception he is good value at $27. IMO.
I really liked Dunn, but with only 5 RB's(2 starting) there was NO WAY I was going to take two RB's with the same bye and Brown(TEN) has more upside at a similar price imo. Same goes for QB's.

The biggest surprise to me was how frugal people were at QB, at leat the people that posted. I spent $59 and didn't take C-Pep. Seems to me QB performence fluctuates an awful lot week to week and I really wanted 3 capable starters - Hasselbeck/McNair/Pennington.Second biggest surprise to me was how much people were spending at WR. We have seven of them and we only need three to have good games. Maybe it's because I really like so many of the sleeper WR's this year but with the rules of this contest, best 3 count; you don't have to guess who to start, it really lends itself to using sleeper WR's imo. I only spent 24 at WR!

I agree with BoltBacker - and not just because he's a Charger fan. Getting 3 good QB's is important to minimize your risk of bad games since the QB position puts up so many points. A lot of people have been spending a lot of on the big name players, but the NFL is so unpredictable you can't bank on one player - even Priest or LT - to put up the same numbers every week. You're better off getting quality guys cheap who have a chance of having big games.

QB - $48

Peyton Manning - $32

Jake Delhomme - $10

David Carr - $6

In order to win this thing you're going to need some guys who can have truly monster weeks. Manning has a lot of those and was worth the cost IMO. I like Delhomme and Carr as backups in the survivor format because each has top 10 potential and plenty of job security. As I see things I have three rock solid QB's. The only way these guys won't be scoring points in week 17 is injury.

RB - $115

Kevin Jones - $33 ($32?)

Thomas Jones - $33

Chris Brown - $32

Lee Suggs - $15

Justin Fargas - $2

The goal here was to get four starting backs who all have elite potential. Kevin Jones, Thomas Jones, Chris Brown, and Lee Suggs are all capable of having monster weeks and none of them comes with the hefty price tag of a more established back. They're all very risky, but that's why I have four of them. I'm just hoping that Suggs isn't seriously injured.

Justin Fargas is one of my top sleepers this year. I think he's going to be a factor in Oakland. He has what I wanted out of my #5 RB: opportunity and upside.

WR - $62

Andre Johnson - $31

Charles Rogers - $9

Kevin Johnson - $5

Andre Davis - $4

Drew Bennett - $4

Kelley Washington - $6

Ike Hilliard - $3

I really like Andre Johnson this year. I feel like he'll provide top 10 production with the potential for some monster weeks. I couldn't pass him up for this price. I think Charles Rogers and Kevin Johnson are going to have good seasons. I selected Davis, Bennett, Washington, and Hilliard because I think they are solid WR's who will catch some passes here and there. Between these seven guys I should be able to field a nice WR unit each week. I initially had the Calico/Bennett combination, but I had to replace Calico with Washington when Tyrone got hurt.

TE - $9

Antonio Gates - $6

LJ Smith - $3

I felt like a bit of a sucker taking Gates because I knew everyone and their brother would have him, but he made sense for the money. He and LJ Smith give me a nice combination. I may come to regret not shelling out the big bucks for a stud TE, but we'll see.

PK - ?

Josh Brown - $?

Kris Brown - $2

I had some extra money so I went big here and got Josh Brown. I think Kris Brown is a great sleeper kicker this year. He had a top ten season in Pittsburgh and I like the direction of the Houston offense.

DEF - $8

Vikings - $5

Jets - $3

I love Minny's D this year. They're looking nasty. I'm not extremely high on the Jets, but they'll have two games against Miami and their bye week fit in well with my team.

COMMENTS

- I'm surprised I haven't seen more of Thomas and Kevin Jones on the rosters I've looked at so far. Thomas Jones is on a terrible team, but he's looked great in the preseason and showed serious signs of life last year. I think I'm the first person with KJ on my team, which is a bit shocking. I think he's a better RB than Chris Brown, although his team isn't as good as the Titans. Nevertheless, I think he's a great option at his listed price. I knew a lot of people would have Suggs and Brown at RB, but I still couldn't pass them up. Fargas could be a real steal at $2, although it looks like a decent amount of people chose him.

- My general strategy at RB was to go with a committee of promising second tier backs. Kevin Jones, Thomas Jones, and Chris Brown cost less combined than Priest Holmes does alone. I don't think it's wise to pay top dollar for a known quantity at RB here. It weakens your overall depth and makes your team too dependent on one guy.

- I decided to go fairly cheap at WR. With seven players to fill three slots there's simply no reason to pay for a star-studded WR group. This is especially true because even the best WR's seem to be relatively inconsistent on a week to week basis.

- Last year I spent a ton of time on this contest and my team more or less stunk. This year I only edited my lineup a handful of times and they were mostly minor changes. I think this is because I have gained a lot of experience with the survivor format since last year. I have a general strategy for this format now and I think it's a good one.

Yeah. I've been waiting till the end to rant, but I'm simply amazed at the amount of people proud of not having QBs.This isn't a Total Points competition. If it was, I would respect the strategy more. But with the size of the possible weekly QB totals, a 10 at QB will probably kill you, a much more likely scenario with $20 worth of QB ($41 for me, Green/Brady/Carr and I worry there.) RBs are going to be interesting to watch over the season just because of a few values being on so many squads (TJones/Dunn/Suggs/Pittman/Fargas $80) Just about every team will have 2 or 3 of a collection of about 7 RBs. It will be interesting to see the effect of a Chris Brown flop or a Suggs blowup. They could singlehandedly move the cut point a lot.As for WR, like in normal survivors, I think they will be the difference makers. With 1/rec, those sleepers better provide at least 50 pts between the 3 WRs or advancement will be difficult ($97 JSmith,Porter,Lloyd,Fitzgerald,Rogers,Driver,ADavis)TE/K/D will be have minimal effects overall, but steady scoring will be required. ($7,12,14 Stevens, Smith, Akers, JBrown, Baltimore, Minnesota)GL All though.

I very much disagree -- with the QB position putting up 4 points per TD, I think they present lesser value than RB's and WR's ESPECIALLY in leagues with points per reception.PPR is a stat much overlooked and/or undervalued by many and it greatly ups the value of WR's and RB's that are good pass receiveres (i.e. Tiki, Staley, Dunn etc...)

Here's mine FWIW. With the exception of Favre and the Philly D, I think this qualifies as the "Official FBG All-Hype Team." (Couldn't afford Barlow)

Byes in parentheses

QB - $33

Favre(9) $15

Delhomme(3) $10

RB - $131 I couldn't decide between which overhyped player to take, so I grabbed them all :excited: :wall:

Witten (4) $7

Gates (10) $6

PK - $10

J.Brown (4) $6

Kasay (3) $4

Def - $9 Probably should have found a way to scrounge up 3 more $ for Baltimore, but I like the Philly schedule.

Philadelphia (5) $6

Denver (10) $3

Tried to spread out the byes - have 4 out, including 2 rbs, in week 5 (part of the reason for taking 5 RB starters), 4 out week 10.

I have no illusions of winning this thing.
