2013 FBG Album Poll Voting Thread - Monday Jan 13 is deadline (1 Viewer)

Didn't see this til now. I was expecting the traditional third week of January deadline. I will have one in tomorrow hopefully, if that's ok.

Sent in my list - glad to see that my #1 album for 2013 came from the 2013 Album Thread.

Will post my full ballot here after voting is closed.

I listened to pretty much every album anyone posted in this thread. There were a few that really caught my attention, but nothing that Id put in my top 10, at least so quick. And actually, the more Ive considered this, the more my top 10 was pretty clear to me. After that, a lot of grey area real good albums, but nothing Id bump into my top 10 right now. I also cant recall a year where my top 10 was so fluid, and I have trouble ordering them. Im just ordering them this way because I think/can tell by other posts the ones Im listing at the top will be getting votes from multiple other people here.

1. Phosphorescent -Muchacho (30 pts)

2. Arctic Monkeys - AM (30 pts)

3. Local Natives - Hummingbird (30 pts)

4. Vampire Weekend - Modern Vampires In The City (30 pts)

I had a similar thought, I had my top 12 pretty well ahead of the rest of the pack on my list. Of course, we only have 1 album in common, but yeah.

I thought it was a pretty decent year for music, but I certainly didn't get to listen to as much as I wanted. Then again, doesn't everyone feel that way? I always do.

No one else liked the Lorde album? Interesting.
I don't follow music like I used to, so I can't really vote in good conscience, but "Royals" was the track of the year.

As was Ace Hood's "Bugatti," but I meekly digress...?
The whole record is excellent.
I think she had a number seven finish in Rolling Stone, so there's that, I guess. Ever since free music kind of died, I just can't be up on everything. I'm not sure there's a year-end list that she's not on, so you're not out of place at all.

Funny- I've listened to more this year because of free Spotify than in any year since the first kid was born in 07.

I didn't realize mixtapes were eligible. Gonna have to revise my list.
I'm open to DQ on that Joey Bad###. I think it is all new material but I don't know TBH.
I added it to my list too. I like that one a lot...I just thought it had to be studio albums only. I may have voted for mixtapes in the past though.

Thoughts on the lists of less than 10 albums? My initial thought was not to count them, but I'm not sure that's the fairest way to do it. I may do the 20, 19, 18, etc.. distribution, so they are still counted, but don't see a 30 point bump from someone who may have only listened to a handful of albums.

I'm going to include the albums on my list here alphabetically (not giving order/points, to keep some secrecy in the results, but for transparency, I should likely post them.

Arctic Monkeys - AM

Arcade Fire - Reflektor

City & Colour - The Hurry and the Harm

Direct Hit! - Brainless God

Fall Out Boy - Save Rock & Roll

Franz Ferdinand - Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Actions

Frightened Rabbit - Pedestrian Verse

Haim - Days are Gone

Jason Isbell - Southeastern

Jimmy Eat World - Damages

Lorde - Pure Heroine

Los Campesinos - No Blues

Mikal Cronin - MCII

The National - Trouble Will Find Me

Phoenix - Bankrupt!

Portugal. The Man - Evil Friends

The Postelles - ...And It Shook Me

Queens of the Stone Age - Like Clockwork

Vampire Weekend - Modern Vampires of the City

The Wonder Years - The Greatest Generation

I like your second idea, the descending points. If someone can't be bothered to follow official FBG album poll protocol, it's on them.

Whatever you decide is cool with me.

Even that is generous. I think someone on page one only listened to two albums and wanted to give those two 30 points each.

I only saw three 2013 movies and would never dream of going into a 2013 Movie Poll and voting for The Hobbit, Thor, and Ironman 3 as the three best.

Final:

Jack Johnson - From Here To Now To You - 30
The National - Trouble Will Find Me - 30
Brett Dennen - Smoke and Mirrors - 30
The Head and the Heart - Let's Be Still - 30
Pearl Jam - Lightning Bolt - 30
Jake Bugg - Jake Bugg - 30
The Avett Brothers - Magpie and the Dandelion - 5
Lorde - Heroine - 5
Vampire Weekend - Modern Vampires of the City - 5
Queens of the Stone Age - Like Clockwork - 5

Pretty sure your list easily has the most crossover with mine. 6/10 of yours are in my top 15, 3 in my top 10. Now you have me wanting to adjust my scoring because it looked like no one else was voting for J Roddy to give them a bump, another great one from them.

As for the others, didnt hear the YLT but couldnt really get into them previously, I guess it deserves to get a listen at least. Someone else had Dexateens in their list, only reason Ive heard it, I enjoyed it. Foxygen is a nice listen, but honestly I dont get the hype for the most part. Never heard of Califone so now Im intrigued to listen to that considering you have it ranked at the top.

ETA: Hollis Brown is a really good totally under the radar band/album
