*2014-15 Hot Stove Thread: The Padres won it I guess (2 Viewers)

Li'l Rosenthal (Li'l Li'l Rosenthal?) says Yanks are close with Scherzer.
so whats this kids deal? I saw some thing on reddit that proves he just copies news from other twitter sources and passes them off as his own. He may have done the same thing here. This guy is reporting 6 yr offer made to Scherzer.https://mobile.twitter.com/danpfeiffer74
Probably. He's a dopey kid that spells a lot of #### wrong.

In the end I don't really think anyone cares much about who gets the "scoop." It's not like they're revealing information that wouldn't come out through an official channel a couple hours later anyway.

You don't think being the person who breaks a story is still a goal of every reporter/tweeter/blogger/etc? It is one of the main goals of reporting and will continue to be for quite some time.

Do you give a #### who breaks a story? Especially a transaction story? This isn't investigative journalism we're talking about here.

Remember Rick Reilly demanding Stuart Scott give him credit for breaking Roethlisberger's shoulder injury.....on Twitter.

I read the Braves were in on Samardija. Tough to get a read on them. I think they need to be sellers here, and they already traded for Shelby Miller. They should be looking for controllable pieces for Justin Upton and Gattis, and then should admit their mistake by eating BJ Upton's contract. And they already have a solid pitching trio in Tehran, Alex Wood, and Miller.

Why do you think Ken Rosenthal, Jon Heyman, etc. are who they are? Because they're able to break these stories before anyone else and generally get things right. The "whispers" they report on are often days if not weeks ahead of any "official" press release, which is generally a steaming pile of PR-massaged garbage. Of course I care who is breaking a story. Reputation matters in a business that is built upon getting someone to believe something that you can't prove at the moment.

But there typically isn't much to those reports. "The A's are working on a major trade." So what? Said trade might fall through, and nobody knows who's involved in said trade. Who gives a ####? There's not much substance to the "X got the scoop" game.

I'd much rather read an in-depth analysis of a transaction than read three tweets about it a couple of hours before it's officially announced.

I don't much care about rumors.

A's/Braves talks dead.
What talks? How do you even know they existed? I don't know about you, but I'm \waiting on a press release from the A's and Braves before I believe it. After all, there's little value to anyone trying to break that news.
I know you aren't terribly bright so read slow: I. Do. Not. Care. Who. Breaks. What.
Resorting to acting like you're smarter than a stranger on the internet is unbecoming, and you seem to do it quite often. Take that observation for what it is worth.

While your criticism of GPJ might be fair in general, he is a lot smarter than you are.

A classic moment. The Young stare down just puts it over the top.

Neat. You know what they say about the guy that keeps telling everyone how smart he is, right?

Pirates DFA Gaby Sanchez after trading for Sean Rodriguez. What?

Also Yankees interested in Andrew Miller, as well as pretty much all the other non-terrible pitchers.

Why is this confusing you? They're essentially the same player, but Rodriguez is more versatile defensively which is ideal for a NL team.
I'm not sure Rodriguez hits as well against LHP or plays 1B as well as Gaby. I also thought Gaby would have had some trade value. Plus they have already signed/traded for a billion other MIs this off-season. (Pedro Florimon, Gustavo Nunez, Jake Elmore, Justin Sellers)

You brought up my intelligence (OR LACK THEREOF), not me.

Steamer projects Cruz for 1.5 wins next year, which probably means that Jacky Z thinks Steamer is a ####. Law also hates the deal,

noting that a power-only 34 year-old isn't the wisest investment for the next four years, much less one that feasts on fastballs.

Cruz also had a much more pedestrian 2H. Yet another hitter signing that's worse than Butler, woohoo!

Szymborski (the guy that does ZiPS) is also not a big fan.

The guy who cuts my hair liked it. He also doesn't think I need to shave my head yet, though, so take his opinions with a grain of salt.

I'm confused as to what statistics take into account errors? It doesn't seem like anyone knows.
I don't think statistics take errors into account (aside from fielding percentage, which we all know is deeply flawed). There do appear to be a LOT of flaws to all the defensive metrics (at least the ones I'm familiar with). And to the best comparison they made in that article, wasn't Zimmerman moved off third because of some injury? Shoulder issues, I thought.

I don't know there's really anything of significance to the article, but it's interesting nonetheless. I'll be curious to see how Donaldson fares this year, defensively.

The modern fielding stats account for whether you make a play or don't make a play. UZR breaks out an error component, but its hardly necessary. If its an easy play and you don't make it, why does it matter if it's an error or any other reason?

Cubs offer is now up to 6/138 for Lester.

...According to sources
Wasting your time, IMO. I'm waiting for official confirmation of this from the Chicago Cubs PR staff and will not comment further until Dave Cameron tells me whether this is a good move or not.

P.S. - Thanks for not naming who reported that, because I don't give a ####.

Seems like you're trying to communicate something.
