Interesting opinions from Chad Ford chat

---------------

Joseph (Provo, UT. )

Does Roy Williams not get the most out of his players? It appears that Macadoo is doing teh same thing that Barnes did. A big recruit that isn't playing up to the potential.

Chad Ford (1:41 PM)

It's a question I was discussing with a number of GMs yesterday. Obviously UNC gets a lot of blue chip talent which means they're going to be good no matter what. But how many of those players actually develop or get better while they are at UNC? I can name a bunch of players at Kentucky who improve their games with Cal. Much harder to come up with examples among the elite UNC recruits. Not sure how much development they get there.

--------------

Johnny (Detoit)

Do GM's really put so much value on 1 game? McAdoo had a stinker last night...how much will that effect him?

Chad Ford (1:43 PM)

No. But there have been concerns for a while and when you're the only elite player in a tournament, you get a lot of intense focus. McAdoo just doesn't seem to have added much of anything to his game. His body looks good. That's about it. He's not very skilled and the turnovers are a real problem. He'll get better as the season goes on ... and his stock will rise if he does. But he just has not been impressive here in either game.

Harrow has to know he'll be buried behind Andrew Harrison next year, so he'll probably jump to the league as well.
:lmao: (We are talking about the NBA here, right?)
Not saying he'll be ready, but even playing in Europe beats playing 10 minutes a game behind Harrison. To be fair, we haven't seen him play for a year
If he has designs on playing in the NBA next season, I hope he has gained 20+ lbs and a tremendous amount of maturity.Has he written an open letter to UK fans yet? :lmao:I'm not at all bitter about him leaving, I think it worked out for the best for State. But he was a huge disappointment at State, both on the court and off the court. I hope he is better for it and performs well, with the only exception being if State ever plays UK while he is there. But until I see a lot more from him on the court, I don't see him playing in the NBA.

State beat UNC-Asheville by just 2 points at home. UNC-A was 1-4 coming in, riding a 4 game losing streak.

Duke took care of a feisty VCU team in an ugly affair. Either both teams' defenses were great or these teams will struggle at times offensively.

Next up is a match up with Louisville. Both teams will be spent after having played VCU and Mizzou. Should be a good game and a good learning experience regardless.

Huge win for Duke over Louisville. No Dieng for the Cardinals, but still a terrific game. Quinn Cook growing up before our eyes. Very poised and a couple of HUGE shots. A little work to do on defense (Siva killed him on screens for most of the game) but it looks like Duke has found their PG.

Louisville will be a very tough out in March if Dieng comes back (there's a chance he might have a broken wrist). They nearly won this thing without him and with Behanan having an awful game. (big effort from Van Treese to keep them in it) Harrell is an absolute monster on the offensive glass. His arms go on for days and he's super quick off the floor.

Yeah, Duke is getting back to putting the D back in Duke but still a lot of work to do. Not a fan of switching all the time especially when it puts Mason on Siva. Rebounding will be a big problem for Duke and could be their kryptonite in March. Hopefully, they can shore that up. Cook looks to have become everything Duke fans had hoped and perhaps more. The end of the game where he wanted the ball in his hands were impressive. That should settle the PG debate and TT will be a super sub but he just can't be the starter. Sheed is very impressive and puts up quiet numbers. As he becomes more efficient, it'll be fun to watch as he becomes an option at the end of the game. I'd feel confident with any of the 5 guys having the ball at the end.

Great game by Duke, obviously...you don't beat this Louisville team without a fairly complete game.

Just wished we could rebound...but I have that wish every year.

OSU beats Duke in pretty much every category...that's going to be the game where it's going to require an almost perfect game to win...can't wait.

Geez...cannot believe Duke's schedule so far this season.

Seems like every time I see a Duke highlight, they're playing a ranked team.

Twerpies were sluggish in beating Ga Southern last night. They led by 3 at the half before pulling away. Another balanced scoring sheet - 9 guys scored, all 10 who played had at least one rebound, and 8 had at least one assist. F Charles Mitchell led with 13 & 11.

Next up is Northwestern in the ACC/Big10 Challenge.

Your name says it all...Just Win BabyI met a couple of the players today at a clinic they put on for kids here in Raleigh (9-12 year olds) They seem like nice guys and seemed to enjoy working with the kids on drills and taking picturesI spoke with Brown and Purvis, I told them that because they have that number to the left of their name they have to be ready for everyone's best shot. They said they understand and Brown says that it takes a little getting use to but that they are getting there.

Duke was lucky to beat Minnesota.
:lmao: Lead wasn't under 10 for the last 8:30 of the game. Perhaps VCU but Minnesota?
I just wanted to pretend they were relevant. But Duke did hit a lot of really tough shots, you have to give me that.
Fair enough. I thought you were just trolling. Yeah, Duke hit some tough shots and Minnesota was more impressive than I thought they'd be. I'd be more happy with the wins versus Memphis and Stanford. Minnesota just couldn't hit the big shots and luckily Hollins didn't go off against Duke. Assuming Tubby keeps up the motivation, they should make noise in the B1G.

The Gophers played hard, especially on D. Its a shame that Mbakwe has basically become a below the rim player. Some guys get it back (See Dawson from MSU. The kid is a freak athlete again less than 9 months since his injury). Hopefully Mbakwe improves as the season goes on.When I turned the game on the other day, I was shocked to see that Ralph Samson III had already graduated. It seems like some of these guys are gone in a flash while others seem to be around FOREVER.

I was trolling, but good naturedly. Duke looked amazing. I couldn't have been more wrong about Plumlee. I thought Mbakwe would kill him but it ended up closer to the other way around. Dude was really impressive.Very happy with the two wins. I said beforehand the two ways to make this tourney a success were by either beating Duke or winning the next two and that's what they did. Gopherchat activated.

1. I was driving cross-country so I missed the Stanford game but Mbakwe put up a classic line for him (19 & 12). Hopefully that means he's back and has all his confidence in that knee, which is what has seemed to be missing.2. Ralph sucked. Blame Tubby (25%) or blame Ralph (75%) but what a huge disappointment that was.

Rumor is that Thomas De Thaey is leaving N.C. State. Unconfirmed at this point. I hope it's not true.

TDT hasn't played much or shown much so far, but he is a big body who seemed to have potential as a rebounder and who could shoot from the outside. I was expecting him to provide some depth in the post this year. If he leaves, Vandenburg will be the only post player on the bench. This would make it even more important that Howell and Leslie avoid foul trouble.

Gottfried has already lost several players to transfer: Harrow, Painter, Harris, and Raymond. Harrow and Harris were addition by subtraction, and Raymond would have never played... but Painter was a tough loss, and TDT on top of that loss will hurt. This is not a good trend.

Just for the record, and without actually watched much season-to-date. My reach - I think this is the kind of game NC State's talent can get up for after a fairly ridiculous stretch. My guess - Northwestern doesn't want to face the stigma of losing the game to Maryland.

Tuesday

Iowa at Virginia Tech

Minnesota at Florida State

NC State at Michigan

Nebraska at Wake Forest

Maryland at Northwestern

North Carolina at Indiana

Wednesday

Virginia at Wisconsin

Purdue at Clemson

Michigan State at Miami

Georgia Tech at Illinois

Boston College at Penn State

Ohio State at Duke

Can't wait for that BC/Penn State game, should be a thriller!
Vegas prop bet - the winner of the Ohio State-Duke or Indiana-UNC game will have more points than the combined score of BC-Penn State or Virginia-Wisconsin. I'm sure that after a "thrilling" 52-40 Wisconsin win over Virginia we will have a few columns about how wonderfully the game was played when viewed by points per possession and offensive efficiency. ... I have nothing against those stats. I just think sometimes people need to admit that Wisconsin and Virginia try to win by making games boring.

Your boys are going down!!!!! :boxing: I'm not sure how the ref teams are chosen for these games, but it's going to be physical in AA tonight. That either translates to a Michigan win or to all the Michigan players fouling out by halftime

Bring it!

We almost lost to UNCA the other day, so I'm not very optimistic. The talent is there, just haven't come together yet. You never know though!

My brother was at the UNCA game, and he said State had too many turnovers, but that Asheville played great. UNC-Asheville had a good team last year too, and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time.

His father is sick so he is returning to Belgium to be with him. He is going to play professional basketball there.

Yeah, I watched the replay on ESPN3... State looked like the bad news Bears on offense at times... fumbling the ball, throwing it out of bounds, etc. We just looked terrible for most of the game. Howell was a beast though, and if the rest of the team plays with his effort/energy we'll be ok.

This is probably going to come off as insensitive, but I feel that the sick father bit was used as an excuse. He was obviously not happy with how this year was going on the court for himself. He seemed like a hard worker from all accounts, but maybe not the best team player. I do hope his father gets well and that he is able to find somewhere over to play overseas.

That is the story. Not sure that's all there is to it but I wish him and his family well.

My guess - Northwestern doesn't want to face the stigma of losing the game to Maryland.
As in, first B1G team to lose to Maryland since the announcement? Can't see why that would be a big stigma, especially when Northwestern isn't really known as a basketball school and Maryland is.

Yea. I was purely just throwing it out there. No real reason. And yes, Northwestern - only Big 6 school to never play in NCAA tourney, so there is no history there.

ACC going to be pretty stout in this thing when they add Syracuse, Pitt and UConn.

Maryland should throw their game to help their new conference.

Can't wait to join.(1) :hifive: ------(1) This is assuming that these improbable B10 takes Connecticut rumors are untrue, which they probably are. Probably not even worth the footnote.

Nc state making a little comeback. Michigan looks great, other than mcgary. He's a big, hard working kid but he has absolutely no idea what to do in the half court.

Leslie really is a freak when he wants to be

Speaking of ticky tack, that's a good example of a ticky tack call right there. I don't care what Dakich says. After all the contact all game long, and this situation being under a minute remaining, that is a weak call IMO.

He does look lost. I wasn't paying much attention until you said something.

Agreed....let them play all game or call it strict all game.

Nice comeback by State, especially with Howell playing so little. I expected a loss in this game all along, but given the recent performances against Oklahoma State and UNC-A, this was good to see on the road against a top 5 team.
