2014 ACC Basketball [Closed - use 2015 thread instead] (1 Viewer)

Hamilton has been a great coach for the Noles, but that guy is never going to run out a decent offense. Kind of ridiculous.

Kinda inconvenient for FSU to get de-pansted like that with Andrew Wiggins in the house.

Good news is the FSU co-eds showed him a good time. A few pictures popping up on some message boards. He clearly got the Jesus Shuttlesworth treatment. Hopefully the promise of unlimited white women will be enough to pull him away from UK

@NosillaDraw: @22wiggins If my girls and I didn't convince you to come to FSU last night I don't know what would! #wiggins #FSU

:lmao:

Must have been an exam hangover for UNc in the second half after giving up 61 to ECU.

Seriously though 4 of their 5 best players are currently guards, you are going to have problems.

ECU is actually competitive this year in basketball. :pirate:

Duke should get Marshall Plumlee back on Wednesday. Important to see just what he is going to give them before the conference season starts.

I'd sign for 5 and 5 with a block in like 15 minutes per game with solid defense. Just needs to provide some energy and give his brother a rest.

 Krzyzewski called Marshall the 6th best player before his injury.

It was a weird last five minutes. Never felt seriously in danger, and there weren't any serious breakdowns down the stretch by UNC, but somehow the margin narrowed. A turnover or two here and there maybe, but there was no offensive drought or horrible defensive breakdowns. ECU was just everything, including several 25-30 footers. There's no play by play box score for this one, but near as I can recall even the Heels scored like 15 points at least after the final time out. ECU must have posted something ridiculous over those last couple minutes.

UNC doesn't look like a Top 25 team at the moment, but I think they'll have a decent season once Brice Johnson and Paige get a few more games under their belt. This team still looks like an above .500 conference team and maybe a 5-7 seed to me. I'd be happy with that. Was certainly comforting to see that we're not the only ones to struggle with Butler.

Edit: found a play by play here. Score was 78-65 at the 3:40 mark after a Hairston 3. UNC scored 15 points in that final 3:40. ECU scored 22. Amazing.

- Duke has been ranked No. 1 123 weeks - second-most in NCAA history behind UCLA (134). Coach K has led the Blue Devils to the top spot in the AP poll 105 weeks.

- Duke has spent 92 weeks ranked No. 1 since 1990 - 40 more weeks than the next closest school (North Carolina) in that span.

Including Wednesday's game, Duke has played more games at No. 1 (210) than as an unranked team (141) under Coach K.

Entering Wednesday's game, Coach K is second in NCAA history in wins (183) and games (209) while on the sideline for the No. 1 team in the AP poll.

- Duke has been ranked No. 1 in 11 seasons since the 1997-98 campaign. The Blue Devils have been ranked No. 1 68 weeks in that span, 31 more than the next closest school (North Carolina).

- The last Duke recruiting class to not claim a No. 1 ranking in the Associated Press poll was Coach K's three-man 1984-85 senior class of Todd Anderson, Jay Bryan and Danny Meagher. Those three played as the No. 2 team in the country for nine consecutive weeks during their senior season in 1984-85, but never reached the nation's top spot. Since that class graduated, every one of Coach K's recruiting classes has played as the No. 1 team in the nation for at least one week.

All very impressive, but don't forget they're also pure evil.

I wouldn't say UNC is pure evil but I do see your point.

I think Frostilicious might be right...I was reading a Watchtower magazine the other day that a Jehovah Witness brought to my door, and it said when Satan was cast down from the heavens he landed in Chapel Hill, and he and his demons set up shop there and in Durham. Your mascot is a devil ya know, and a ram is a satanic symbol. :o

Ga Tech played Solomon Poole last night in a blowout game a week after his last high school game. Point guard of the future. Not sure how much he can help this year. Robert Carter looks like a future stud. Marcus Georges-Hunt is really good too. Brian Gregory heading in the right direction here.

Good win for State last night against Stanford. It is amazing how much more enjoyable it is to watch games when it's not an ACC officiating crew.

Looks like duke probably closed the deal with Jabari Parker last night. Lots of major smoke on the boards this morning.

I think he's the spitting image of a young carmello Anthony. Perfect 4 man for the duke system

I may have been wrong about this UNC team. Worst game since the epic Larry Drew II era. Sloppy and lazy on both ends.

Hopefully it was just a mid-December nonconference road game throwaway performance, but the evidence is starting to pile up. At this point if you offered me 5th or 6th in the conference and an NCAA bid and nothing else, I'd take it.

Roy has looked a little unhinged the past couple times I have watched UNC. He has a psychotic feel to him. Maybe he knows this season and team is toeing a train wreck type year with the prima donnas he has on his team.

Still patiently(?) waiting for this team to actually play a 40-minute game. Some of Roy's past teams could play a sloppy five minutes in each half and pull it out. This one cannot.

Yeah, this team looks brutal. Hopefully expectations weren't placed too high early on. They won't reach them this year.

Yeah, other teams would have 5-10 minute lapses and play well the rest of the way and hope that was enough. This team has 5-10 minutes of solid play interrupting mostly sloppy execution. They are really young- as I pointed out a few weeks ago, they have far fewer returning minutes than most teams. The only comparable team in the KenPom Top 25 at the time was Kentucky, and they've sucked too even though they're far more talented. Maybe they'll come around. Another problem they might face is that the conference seems relatively tough this season, with Miami, Maryland and Virginia all playing well and NC State filling the space usually occupied by the weaker of UNC or Duke.

I thought he looked good in his pink tie last night. The pink went well with his suit color, and it gave him a nice healthy skin tone.

Apparently a college diploma is important to Jabari..so there's a possibility we may see him more than one year...but I won't hold out too much hope just yet.

Parker is Duke's starting 4 next year. He'll play like Luol Deng did or how they used Melo (who I think Jabari is a dead ringer for at the same stage) for team USA.

No chance he's there more than 1 year. He's a different type of kid, but top 5 picks don't come back to school. They just don't.

Agreed, but he'll be the 4 more out of necessity and assuming Hood outplays Amile. But a 3/4 of Hood/Jabari looks pretty nice. If Sheed sticks around with Cook at the 1, that is a pretty daunting starting 5. But I guess Josh is our backup 5?

I don't hold out hope that Jabari will stay more than one season...I just thought it was an interesting point of his to bring up in his decision making process for picking which school.

I agree that next year's team looks pretty solid if Sheed and Cook are there...still a little shaky at 5 but with that much firepower, it shouldn't matter too much.

State RPI = 5

State SOS = 4

State ranking = 23/25

I don't really care about rankings but that is an interesting disparity.

Merry Christmas, ACC fans.

RPI and SOS are flawed this time of year since teams like Cuse play the blind for a few games. Coloraod is RPI 4/SOS 5 and isn't ranked. Butler is 6/6 and in the 20's, UNLV is 7/9 and ranked high teens or in the 20's. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Besides, the committee cares more about RPI/SOS than ranking.

Sag/pom are both around 20 I think.

Plenty of chances to figure out where this State team should be ranked. Losing 2 of 3 games against decent teams isnt a great start, but they are playing way better than they were at the start of the year.

Yes, as I said, I don't care about the rankings (at this point). As for the 2 of 3 games against decent teams, IMO they looked good in the Michigan loss and Oklahoma State is quite good. I think both of those will prove to be acceptable losses.

Let's do this!
:goodposting: Maryland got through at 12-1, but didn't beat anyone any good. They open ACC play vs VT Saturday. I think they're going to be good, with a chance at being really good, but we'll see....
Wow... SOS 269... you weren't kidding. They better win a lot of conference games, because I don't think the conference RPI's are going to help them too much in that regard.

Anyone who plays Duke twice is going to get a big bump in the RPI even if they lose. Duke is so far out ahead (.7462 to Michigan at .6900...I don't ever remember seeing a difference so great), that it will prop a few teams up.Having said that, I don't get why Ga Tech, Uva, and MD scheduled such absolute creampuffs. You want to know why the ACC doesn't get more bids...there you go. Ga Tech has played 4 teams below 300...thanks guys.

At least Duke, Miami, State, and UNC are tourney teams if they finish 8-8 or better. MD probably is. Everyone else probably needs 9-7 or better (UVa may need 10-6 since they only play Duke, State and Miami 3 times total) . Clemson and Wake...thanks for playing.

Ga Tech is clearly better than the last couple of seasons but still not sure how good. We're 9-2 with a win over St Mary's but losses to Illinois and California. We have been taking care of business like one should against the cupcakes and have one more of those tonight. Then four of our next five against Miami, State, Duke and UNC.
