saints lose Safety Malcolm Jenkins to Philly with a 3 year $16 million deal.

As a Saints fan, this is a little disconcerting. I thought he and Vaccaro paired up really nicely in the backfield.
Yeah, that was a little too fast. Seems kind of passive.

Add safety to where there are lots of holes to fill really quickly.

What’s the deal with the LB from the Seahawks? PFT is reporting 2 years 8 million for some cat I have never heard of O’Brien Schofield. The guy has no NFL starts and the Giants him for 4 million per year?
He was to be a high pick coming out a few years ago, tore his acl at the senior bowl, then the cardinals drafted him with a fourth rounder. I think once the cards cut him, wound up in Seattle.

If his knee is sound, it could be a nice signing.

Rashad Jennings is tweeting that he's flying to NYC tomorrow to sign a contract with the Giants?

Interesting pick up by them.

I love Vaccaro and think he's going to be a star but it's tough to ask that of a 2nd year player. Drew not re-structuring his contract before FA starts is proving to be a problem. We may be just waiting for the flurry of signings to pass and bargain-hunting. I trust the management and coaches here.

Confirming Shefter tweet about TJ Ward.

@johnelway
Excited to announce we've agreed to terms with strong safety T.J. Ward. He'll bring energy and toughness to our secondary.

Broncos signed ward for 4 years @ 22 mil....that's a steal.
Agreed...surprised he did not go for more.

Now that is something Packer fans should complain about...could have gone a little higher and still been a good deal for him IMO.

@AdamSchefter

Bills free-agent S Jairus Byrd is on his way to New Orleans to visit the Saints, per source.

Would be a big-time move by the Saints
I don't know how they could afford it but whatever. Would they pay him in Mardi Gras beads?
Yeah, makes no sense to me. Aren't they only like $2M under the cap right now?

Seems like a desperation play by Parker and Byrd to generate fake interest. Unless the Saints can somehow get Graham to sign a longterm deal, free up space this year and convince Byrd to sign a one year "prove you can stay healthy" and play for a good team type deal.

with Sproles cut? I think they are about $5-5.5 under the cap. He was looking north of $8-9 million a year too.

@NYPost_Schwartz: Ravens WR Jacoby Jones headed to meet with Giants tomorrow, says ESPN.
Curious to see what all of these role/depth player type of WR's get in a weak UFA class at their position. I had to chuckle when Mike Martz on total access suggested that Emannuel Sanders had #1 WR abililty.

You're right. Sproles freed up another $3.5. They're right around $5.2M or so.

Gotta figure $2-3M at least to sign all their draft picks.

Not sure how they'd do it without one of 3 things or a combo of them all:

1) Graham signs a new deal and frees up space this year (or is signed away)

2) Brees redoes his contract and frees up space

3) Byrd plays for a LOT less than what Buffalo was offering

Giants agreed to terms with RB Rashad Jennings, formerly of the Raiders.
Jennings was supposed to be a free-agent priority for the Raiders, but they let him walk without much of a fight. According to CSN Bay Area, the Giants offered "a lot more." Jennings is two weeks shy of his 29th birthday, but has just 484 career touches. He averaged 4.5 yards per carry last season, and is an excellent pass catcher. He's a nice insurance policy for David Wilson. Mar 11 - 5:23 PM

Are you guys counting up all the dead wood? Jenkins, Harper, Moore, Sproles, Pierre (if), Strief, Vilma, Grier.... is this all showing up in the latest cap numbers?

I doubt Byrd is wasting his time.

Well, you can't deny coverage for preexisting conditions...

Rotoworld:

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports free agent DE/OLB DeMarcus Ware is already drawing interest from "six playoff teams."
There's debate over how much Ware, 32 in July, has left in the tank, but it doesn't sound like he's going to be on the open market for long. Ware has averaged nearly a sack per game during his nine-year career, and missed only three lifetime contests. Of course, all three came in 2013, where Ware registered a career-low six sacks.

McFadden resigns with Raiders, link coming...

edit: no link, it was a site quoting Sheffter tweet:

Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter

Raiders re-signed RB Darren McFadden to a one-year, $4 million deal, per source.
What percentage of that goes to the trainers?
lol. fwiw looks like a good setup for the Raiders, only $1.25M committed.

Darren McFadden's deal with #Raiders is 1-year, $1 .75M. Has $1 .25M base, $500K in bonuses (including $256K in per-game). $2 .25M incentives.

That's a horrific deal for him if those incentives aren't total gimmes. He might end up making less than some straight backups.

While it's early, McFadden re-signing with the Raiders for now has to be viewed as a positive for Gio Bernard since McFadden was initially linked to Hue Jackson in Cincy.
