Forgive me. My formerly very good basketball teams are a combined 4-13 since the end of January and its cold and miserable and I hate everything. You know I'd never want to hurt youtdoss said:

They should be solidly in as a 10 seed IMO, with opportunity to improve that seed.
Heck, they still have a shot at 4th place in the conference regular season. State has an easier remaining schedule (@BC, @Clemson, Syracuse) than UNC (@MIA, GT, Duke), Louisville (@FSU, ND, UVA), and Syracuse (@Duke, UVA, @NCSU). If State wins out, they will have 11 wins, with head to head tiebreaker over Louisville and Syracuse. Not sure how tiebreakers work if they end up tied with UNC, since they split their games.
(I'm not saying those games are easy wins for State. State fans know that no wins can be taken for granted. Ever.)
They seem to be peaking at the right time. And Cat Barber has transformed into the best PG in the conference. He showed that on the floor last night.

Keep in mind, I said he has transformed into that. He is finally fulfilling the potential that made him a McD AA.
Over his last 6 games, he has averaged 18 ppg and has 25 assists, 10 steals, and 8 turnovers. And that stretch includes games against UVA, Louisville, and UNC. More importantly, he is doing a great job running the offense and continues to play outstanding defense.
It's like a switch flipped or something. I wouldn't take Tyus Jones over Cat.

Agree with everything except the last sentence. Duke fan or not, can't deny how great Tyus Jones has been. Flat out filthy. ESPECIALLY in the biggest games they have played. We call him Tyus STONES Jones for a reason

That's a given. The difference this season may be that the Blue Devils have a post player who can score down low in addition to a pair/trio of scoring guards, plus Winslow to boot, so it will be harder for Duke's offense to go into hibernation. That sort of deep freeze plus the set-your-watch late-season defensive woes, aggravated as always by fatigue, is typically what contributes to their exit from the NCAAs. The 2010 and 2013 editions had the well-established scoring threat down low and the outside game too, which IMO is why they went farther than recent Duke teams have. This season, though, there's the added problem of being a terrible FT shooting team despite having two of the top percentage makers in the country on the roster: but then they're playing 45 minutes a game, so they'll be tired too.
All depends on the draw, but an exit before the Sweet Sixteen would surprise me, as would making the Final Four. I guess I'm envisioning another Elite Eight like two seasons ago or a Sweet Sixteen bowout to a four/five seed. But who knows. One thing I really don't care about is the ACC-T. I'd like to see Grayson Allen, Pagliuca and Kelly play 25-30 minutes apiece throughout those festivities.

We now have as good a starting 5 as any team in the nation. We have the best player in the nation. Not saying the Final Four is an automatic thing for ANY team, but a #1 or probably at worst #2 seeded team who has won big games on the road all year making the Final Four shouldn't be a shock to anyone. I think Duke has as good a shot making the Final Four as any other team in this tournament.

I just have seen one too many recent vintage Krzyzewski teams ground down by fatigue and lack of depth and this one seems like a prime candidate. I get that the Chokies were fired up as usual for their Super Bowl, but OT against them, even at Cassell? Oof.sporthenry

Fair enough. Their offense this year really is out of this world. Not sure how last year's O was more efficient. Imagine it has to do with FT shooting. Only 4% worse than last year but I agree this team can score in plenty of ways. Probably just selective memory but Hood/Parker weren't great at getting their shot whenever. Now Duke has 4 guys who can seemingly get their shot whenever.
No doubt it depends on the draw but usually I'm not afraid of mid-majors because Duke is usually just as well coached. I fear a team like the Northern Iowa team that upset Kansas. Shoots the ball well beyond the arc. Has a guy or two who can penetrate at will. And most importantly, has a 4-year big who can push Okafor around. Add in good team defense and rotation and Duke could be in trouble. Not sure if this team exists but a game like last night where the refs let the guy just push Okafor in the back, and it could be a different ending. It'll be interesting but trying to outscore the other team never seems to end well.

Senior Quinn Cook deserves it. Coming into the season, not a single Duke fan I know would have said or guessed that, but if you look at his numbers, he's been outstanding. Can't give that kid enough credit, he has grown up in a major way this year.
Quick stats- 47% FG shooting, 42% 3PT, 87% FT, 3 Rebs, 3 Assists, 16 pts per game. And he's been on fire as of late. Over the last 5 games, he's averaging 23.6 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 3.0 apg on .535 FG & .488 3FG.
And when you just look at conference play, he has the highest offensive rating in the entire league (Grant is 2nd, Okafor is 4th). When you look at the entire country, he's 3rd on the list.

I'll 2nd Wreck's choice of Brogdon as ist Team ACC. He won't win POY because he doesn't play for Duke or UNC and doesn't have huge numbers, though he should be in serious consideration.

You're right. I knew I was forgetting someone. There really should be zero drama about 1st team All ACC. Can anyone make a legit argument for someone other than Okafor, Grant, Hanlan, Christmas, and Brogdon? If you make an argument for someone else, please select who from this group you would drop to 2nd team.
No, I don't think Cook deserves it over any of these other guys. Without looking into it further, I seriously doubt Cook even deserves 2nd team and maybe not 3rd team, either.
There are a lot of good players in the ACC. The five guys named above means the best players on UNC, Louisville, N.C. State, Pitt, Miami, FSU, Wake, GT, Clemson, and VT are not included. I realize some of those teams may not have anyone deserving of 2nd (or 3rd) team, but it still illustrates how tough it is for one team to place 2 players in the top 2 teams, much less 2 players on 1st team.

No, he is not an average coach. Before State, he was OVC COY and SEC COY. That is not average.
At State, he is 87-50 (.635), 43-34 (.558). That is above average.
At State, he has led his team to 3 out of 3 NCAA bids, and should make it 4 of 4 this season. That is above average.
At State, his teams are 6-3 in the ACC tournament and 3-3 in the NCAA tournament. That is above average.
His recruiting is above average.
He is one of 14 coaches all time to coach two different schools to wins over the #1 ranked team. That is a bit of a footnote, but it is also true that he has shown at State that his teams can compete with and beat the best teams in basketball. That is above average.
If you want to insist he is average, make an intelligent case for it. Otherwise, you just come off as a biased poster.

Yup. But some fans like to pretend they're above it.
Sometimes it seems like the more the fans think they're above it, the harder the fall. Some UNC fans certainly thought their program above the sleazy business of NCAA revenue sports, but they're not, as we all now know. Certainly Penn State and Duke fans are among the worst in this respect, and now it looks like they have something else in common.

Well, Duke has been pretty sleazy for decades now (Boozer, Magette, etc.), so any Duke fans pretending otherwise are really just kidding themselves. Regardless, schools getting a pass on this stuff isn't exactly uncommon at this point. If we want to rail against it, great, but I think the railing should be directed at the NCAA in general rather than any particular school.

Maybe it's because I watch them the most and see their warts more, but Maryland doesn't FEEL like the #10 team to me. Just look at their last dozen or so games - they either got blown out or won relative squeakers. However, they do some things really well that may bode well come tourney time:New AP poll

They were 1-6 in their last 7 trips to Clemson, with the only win on a buzzer beating 3 pointer by Scott Wood a couple years ago.
