2015 Oakland Raiders Thread (1 Viewer)

I was possibly conceived during the celebrations of the 1st Super Bowl but was unaware of the raiders until the Bo Jackson era due to living over seas.

I have enjoyed the Cable/Hugh Jackson seasons as well as this one where we were not supposed to do anything but challenged for a playoff spot.

compared to getting out to hot starts and finishing 8-8 pre gruden

I'm in the market for a new team soon. Been a Lions fan my whole life and can't take it anymore. Love the young nucleus in oakland. Room on the wagon?

Love the sig TomConnors. Molson Canadian is the best beer ever made.
:suds:

Cheers TGT! My go-to domestic is actually Molson Export, but have very fond memories of the best two-four of all time, the Pleasure Pack.

Also love "micros" like Sleeman Cream Ale and Upper Canada Lager.

Love reading everyone's story of how they became a Raider fan -- great reliving history at an optimistic time for the team. Reminds us why we all bleed Silver & Black, regardless of team record.

I grew up in western PA surrounded by Steeler fans. As a boy in the 70s, I remember catching some Raider games by chance. I was hooked. They were nasty and winners. My first memory of any SB was the Raiders beating the Redskins. The SB was not the big deal it is now. I was at my Grandmas house for a typical Sunday dinner with my family and watched the game on her little TV. I remember her small living room and TV like it was yesterday.

I remember watching the Bo vs Bosworth game in college with a huge Seahawk fan. He became a Bo fan in those 3 hours. I also remember watching my favorite Raider get hurt. I did not think that would be the end of Bo. It looked like a normal tackle.

I went to the Raiders-Buffalo playoff game in 1994. That game ended up being one of the coldest NFL games in history. The wind chill was brutal. That was a miserable experience but I remember the whole day vividly. After quitting the NFL for a few years, Gannon and Gruden pulled me back in. I still love Gannon. He won with his head and heart. There needs to be more heart in the NFL.

Vince Evans is still my favorite backup quarterback ever.
Respect. Though in terms of all time? What about Rodgers and Brady? Kurt Warner, Bradshaw, Young, Cunningham, Flutie, even Morrall don't enter that list? Believe even Favre was the backup who came into action when Majkowski went down.

Even if you are staying with just Raiders, what about Plunkett or Blanda?

Great post. Blanda and Plunkett are heads and shoulders above the rest. For those unfamilar with Blanda, check out the 1970 season. It seemed like Blanda was instramental in every victory. He was the oldest guy in the league at the time. Simply amazing.

Plunkett steered the Raiders to two SB wins.

This is a huge week for the Raiders.

If they can pull out a win against the Steelers, it would really increase their chances of a Wild Card.

Would be 5-2 AFC Record with tie breakers over the Steelers and Jets who are the 2 next closest teams.

Really hoping they can put up a solid effort with a win.

Agreed, its a big if but this young Raiders team has the talent and is building confidence. If they could pull off this one, its possible they could go on a nice little winning streak looking at the next 4 games after this one.

Raiders are red hot right now after tearing the Chargers and Jets each a new one. And the defense has been surprisingly good even though the numbers say we are getting gauged through the air. It's not really true since we gave up mostly garbage time yards. It's a big game with big stakes out in Pitt, but I think the Raids are ready for this.

This weekend will be a big test to see if this team is a contender or pretender for a 2015 playoff spot. Playing a good team on the road with just as much at stake - essentially this could be the single game that determines a playoff spot between these two teams later. Huge moment in the maturation process of a young team.

Right on the money.

Gonna be tough to win in Pitt. They're a desperate team coming off a huge loss and they have a top QB/WR. I wouldn't get your hopes up.

I obviously wouldn't say it's a sure win, but there is no reason the Raiders can't win this week. The Steelers are a good team, but Ben is probably not fully healthy and they just lost Bell. With the Raiders recent play I actually see good reason to get our hopes up for a change.

I commend you younger fans who didn't live the glory days. My start was with Stabler rookie year.
I go way, way back. I go back to 1967 (I was 9) and Super Bowl II. Really enjoyed watching the wide-open AFL as opposed to the ground-and-pound NFL. Just something about the Silver and Black. My favorite all-time Raider was Jack Tatum.
:hifive: Love the "I started liking em when" phase of the thread.

I'm right there with you, DC. I watched em get smoked by the Pack in Super Bowl II and kind of adopted em. I was 9 also. The kicker: My dad was stationed in Germany and what I watched was two-weeks delayed. Still didn't make it any less painful. :topcat:

so if they play hard in a close game but dont win are they still a contender?

If they hang with Pburgh today it is a positive sign for this young team. Playing in Pburgh is tough. They have a great O and know how to win.

Not that our season depends on this game but this is one of the biggest games we've had in years. Getting pumped up over here!

Some questions I will be looking for answers to today. Can the oline hold up under PIT's constant blitzing? When PIT blitzes how effective is Carr? Will the Raiders start using the TE more (specifically Walford)? Can the secondary stand up to the PIT passing attack? Can the improve their pass rush? Is their coverage of TE's improving?

Exciting times...

I think the offense will score points. The key will be the Raiders' defense. Can they keep Big Ben from having a big game? Can Hayden and company contain Antonio Brown? Can the defense cover the middle of the field, and keep Heath Miller in check? And no stupid penalties! Go Raiders!

Taylor Mays is still drawing an NFL paycheck. That's high comedy. And that give-up handoff on 3rd and 8 was an unforgivable, pussy-ass call.

Outside of Carr, who looks super solid, Raiders not looking sharp on either sides of the ball. Mediocre and lazy tackling, getting pushed around at scrimmage and point of attack, not holding onto balls, looking lackadaisical in coverage.

This was never a gimme, but they deserved to lose this one.

We got us a QB. I was never sold on Murray, I always though that was more about the Oline than him, so here's praying they draft Elliott and the FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE SECONDARY because despite only having 1:15 left, and LFJ at QB, I do not feel good.

Occasionally I hate being right.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's totally fine to be more optimistic about the team than we used to be, but this defense STINKS. Beyond embarrassing to let Landry Jones beat us. It's still all about baby steps and moral victories at this point.

Hayden and Amerson are back ups on any other team. And when you have Taylor Mays playing in your defensive backfield, you know you got issues.

The sad part about the defense is that there are some very nice pieces, but then some very bad ones to. Just upgrading the bad to average would make huge improvements.

The D is awful. The Steelers are the better team but not by much theses days. Once the Raiders address the D in the offseason, they will be a very good team and will be in the playoffs next season.

Sneaking into the playoffs would be nice for the experience but this team is not ready for that level of competition.

Any D with Taylor Mays will be atrocious. Add Nate Allen and TJ Carrie and the D will look A LOT better. Nieron Ball will be back soon too.

Yes they are. They already beat the Jets, barley lost to Pitt on the road. They aren't ready for NE/Cin/Den but the rest of the AFC sucks.

Despite the loss. Carr showed a lot of poise and growth, especially in the last drive to tie up the game. It was a hard, physical game and Carr never let up. I'm excited the Raiders finally got it right at the QB position. It's nice to finally see them on the upswing, makes the losses a little easier to take, knowing there are better days ahead.

The big difference this season compared to the previous three seasons under Allen as head coach is that the Raiders have been in every single game except the first game of the season. In the past they would be out of the game by half time. There is no doubt the team is heading in the right direction. This team needs DB help in the worst way and I think those close losses will turn into wins.

Very encouraged by the play of Carr and the offense as a whole. They came back from a tough deficit and had a shot to win. Carr showed great mobility and poise. It looked like the INT in the EZ could have been on Walford. It looked like he broke his pattern off on the throw.

I agree they have a big need at CB, but I like the way Hayden is developing. I don't think he will ever be a shut down corner but he is playing solid. I still believe an improved pass rush will improve the secondary as well. When is Edwards Jr going to make an impact?

Not much needed to place perspective on how our D let us down in the way they played today -- 519 yards from scrimmage from two players alone (Brown and DWill).

True that these aren't the Raiders who up and quit before halftime, but that has solely to do with the way Carr manages the offense. He's poised, calm, and more and more is making the right decisions. He absolutely is an NFL franchise QB, and there are not many QBs under 30 right now in the NFL who can do the kinds of things Carr is doing consistently (Luck and Cam. Maybe Dalton, though I'd rather have Carr long term. Would also take Carr over Wilson right now if only because Carr does the kinds of things in the pocket as a pure NFL passer that I am not sure Wilson does as well, even though Russell has been more successful in SEA's system).

That said, great to see Carr lead this team throughout to have a shot at tying/winning to the end. Much more than I expected to see at the start of the season.

The media hype around the resurgent Raiders and their potential playoff hopes should be ignored -- would be fantastic, but I think more than we could hope for now. I think we're another year away from being very solid, and it's obvious a few key defensive pieces (and a more consistent RB) is all we need to compete for the division title consistently.

One thing I'll say is that I never expected Crabtree to be such a turnaround player. He has turned into one of our best FA signings in a long while.
