I would be shocked if Reggie tried to move up in the draft. It would be the polar opposite of what he preaches. I also would be very surprised if they do not pick a WR with their first pick. Carr's development is very fragile at this point and he needs playmakers around me. Carr's development is also the key to Reggie holding his job as well as putting butts in the seat. Granted this draft appears deep at WR, but there is a clear drop off in talent after Cooper and White.

I don't like the Kevin White pick at all. At least not at #4. :rollseyes: I'm still hoping and praying for Cooper.

I do think Reggie has his sights on Big Cat, and is hoping he falls naturally to him at pick #4. That would necessitate a trade up of some team ahead of us for Mariota. And then we need for Jacksonville to nab Fowler which is a great pick for their scheme, (would be a fine fit for ours as well). Then we pounce on Williams. I think that's the plan all along. Naturally wait on the best prospect to fall for whatever reasons.

But if Williams doesn't fall, I think there's a strong chance that both Cooper and White are on the board at pick #4, and I think Reggie has no plans to take either. I can't see that happening unless we trade up and MacKenzie won't trade up. I would not read into Antonio Smith being let ago as anything other than they simply don't think he can contribute anything as he didn't really contribute much at all last year and is just another year older now. Might as well bring in an undrafted FA to go after that roster spot.

I wonder how much it would cost to move up from 4 to 3 (if Winston and Mariota go 1-2) or 4 to 2 if Oak really wanted to guarantee landing Williams.

So what do we know about Eric Galko? Honest question, I have never heard of him. I don't disagree with his analysis but is he well connected in the NFL? With the Raiders? Does he break a lot of stories or have a lot of his predictions come true?

I've been following Galko for a couple of years. He's got some good information in the past and I have no doubt he's connected within NFL circles from what I've gleaned. Having said all that, I doubt anyone really knows for certain what any GM is really going to do, and the moves that other GM's make cause for an interesting dynamic that makes predicting anything for sure pointless. I don't use Galko's info to verify what I believe what will happen, but moreso to filter out what I believe won't happen.

In his final mock last year he said he 'heard' that Aaron Donald was the pick for Oakland. Saying the Raiders want a DE and a WR, all he needed for that info was a transcript of Del Rio's press conference. He never really connected Carr to Oakland last year, which puts him in a pretty small group.

The guy attends all the all-star games, and I have no doubt he chats with scouts. Some of the stuff he hears winds up coming to fruition, and some doesn't. Which doesn't mean he has bad info, or is making stuff up. Before Day 3 last year, he called Savage to Texans, Logan Thomas to AZ, and had one or two other good calls.

I think the Raiders would prefer to go DL over WR in the first, but I think that because listening to Reggie talk philosophy, looking at Green Bay's drafting history (Javon Walker last 1st round WR), and looking at the depth of WR, it just makes sense. He might be connecting the dots, nothing wrong with that.

I dug into it a bit and it seems like it originated from Peter King. It may be just echoes from him where I have seen things elsewhere.

Of course, this is the rumor season so who knows.

MacKenzie has shown willingness to drop back but I don't see anything in the past that tells me that he would pay to move up a couple of spots to land Williams.

The dude is huge. Had some playing time with the Bears on some pretty horrible offensive lines for a couple of years as OT. I wonder because of his size if they are going to give him a whack at playing RG. As much as Barnes could easily be upgraded... I am confident this is not the guy. But maybe you hide is lack of nimbleness by moving him in and let him maul some people at G with his size?

Agreed. I have a hard time seeing RM going after a WR with the 4th pick when neither are on the level of a Fitz, Green or Megatron coming out of college.

Agreed. I have a hard time seeing RM going after a WR with the 4th pick when neither are on the level of a Fitz, Green or Megatron coming out of college.

The best scenario is to trade down to get another pick in the 2nd round. As we all know, there are a lot of holes to fill.

If nobody is willing to trade into our #4 spot, it comes down to Williams, Cooper, then Fowler. I would be really happy with Williams and pretty happy with Cooper. I think Cooper is going to be a great WR for many years but there is always WR talent to be had in later rounds.

I don't see any reason this can't happen. Jax doesn't have a Fowler-type, unless they like Andre Branch, which is possible. They have Odrick and Alualu for beef, but don't have an edge guy.

I would have no problem with Cooper, at all.

2012: No 1st rounder, or 2nd rounder. Still managed to trade down 10 spots in the 5th, and pick up a 7th. Raiders took Jack Crawford and Nathan Stupar. Lions took Chris Greenwood. Not much here.

2013: No 2nd rounder.

Raiders trade #3 overall (Dion Jordan) for #12 overall (DJ Hayden) and a 2nd rounder (Menelik Watson). A cynical could point out that Sheldon Richardson with the next pick. Raider fans preferred Star Latouileleiwhatsammatafayou or Sharif Floyd. Watson is looking like he's not a starter, jury out at best, and Hayden has looked pretty good. Worth pointing out that if this draft as a do-over, Hayden would go higher. Top 10 is littered with busts.

Raiders trade down in the 4th with Tampa so they can jump up and take Akeem Spence. Raiders get a 4th(Tyler Wilson) and a 6th (Latavius Murray). And this is a texbook example of why you trade down. Wilson--horrible pick. Murray--great pick.

Texans trade up in the 6th to take David Quessenberry. Raiders get a 6th (Mychal Rivera) and a 7th (David Baas).

2014: Full complement of picks.

Dolphins move up in the 3rd to take Billy Turner. Raiders get a 3rd (Gabe Jackson) and 4th (Keith McGill).

Raiders trade Terrelle Pryor for a 7th rounder. Raiders take Jonathan Dowling.

McKenzie will actively be looking to trade down in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, no doubt.

Leo Williams should be the #1 pick in this draft hands down, but QB is king so Winston gets crowned.


I see little-to-zero shot of LW falling to #4. Kid is a 20-yr old specimen, with three years of proven college production at a key defensive position. He is an anchor player at a position with longevity, if he hits.

Question is will Tenn take him or will some sneaky team trade to #2? Why wouldn't Tenn take him?

Biggest reason why they don't take him is scheme fit. But they may think he can be a good end in a 3-4 and do it anyway.

Intriguing. Signing him would be a typical move in the sense that it could be a value friendly signing that fills a need and allows us to go 'best player available' in the draft. It would be not typical in that he has a reputation as not being a good locker room type guy and MacKenzie puts a huge premium on that.

Earlier in this thread I was a big supporter of at least bringing him in and possibly offering him a "prove-it" deal.

I read a bunch of stuff recently (not sure where) where a lot of people are really questioning whether or not he has permanently lost a step due to lower leg injuries (ala Hakeem Nicks). It will be interesting to see what happens.

Yea, after it was said that he was going to visit us I went back and paid attention to some earlier reports I glossed over on him.

Seems the big concern is not just the locker room but that his lower leg injuries have taken their toll. Might be a 'possession' type of guy now which is actually something we don't need if true. James Jones can fill that role well enough.

Why not kick the tires (or feet in this case) and see how fast/slow he is. If he is slow, I agree- I don't see the value in bringing him in. If he has healed up more and is not altogether slow then why not sign him? Should be an easy evaul to have him do some sprints and ladders etc

Agreed. I don't like his prima donna attitude but I remember liking his talent a lot in college and it looked like he was putting it together in 2012 before getting hurt.

Looking at his injury history I wonder if it is valid to suggest that he has lost a step.

2008 College Foot Michael Crabtree left the game against Jayhawks with a left foot strain.
2008 College Ankle Crabtree had to leave the game against A&M Aggies due to a sprained right foot.

2008 College Ankle Michael Crabtree didn't have full participation in the game vs. Baylor Bears because of an ankle injury "high ankle sprain".

2009 NFL Foot Crabtree sustained a Jones fracture in his left foot and underwent surgery.

2010 NFL Neck Michael Crabtree strained his neck at practice on Wednesday's practice which caused him to miss 4 regular games.

2011 NFL Foot Crabtree missed all 4 preseason games and was reported to have fractured his left foot again on 6th June 2011 and was placed on PUP list and activated on 30th Aug. He underwent surgery.

2011 NFL Foot Michael Crabtree missed two games due to an aggravated foot(left) he sustained during the Seattle game.

2012 NFL Calf Michael Crabtree hurt his right calf during practice.

2013 NFL Achilles Michael Crabtree's Achilles' tendon on his right foot was "completely torn" during Tuesday's OTA practice and went for surgery. He will most likely miss all of 2013

So he clearly had recovered from all his left foot issues prior to 2012 because that was his breakout season.

It was his right Achilles tendon so I don't see that it necessarily follows it will negatively impact him anymore than any other WR who has had the same injury. If it was his left foot I think there would be additional cause for concern. People don't always recover fully but sometimes they do.

It's definitely worth working him out.
