2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs: All hail the Blackhawks, mudbutt (1 Viewer)

Congrats Hawks dudes. GL.

The one good thing about Hawks going to the finals is the 2016 conditional draft pick for Kimmo becomes a 2nd. Two seconds for Kimmo? :ninja: Now dont be losers, get his name etched on the cup.

Congrats to the Hawks fans here.World class team and some really great fans, best of luck(though I doubt you need it)in the finals!

Two @garthbrooks concerts scheduled for the night of Game 2. Amateur hour at @AmalieArena!
Are they not supposed to make money on the incredibly rare event that they make the finals? Are 28 other arenas dark next weekend in case they made it. That would be really dumb.
The Ice Palace is always ranked near the top of busiest arenas in the country. Not bad for city without an NBA team.

Garth Bucks. Yes I said Bucks. Is a huge hockey fan. He skated with the lightning at their practice facility in Brandon years ago when he played here.

Anyone have tickets to spare in Tampa?
Bolts sent out an email code to season ticket holders yesterday. Didn't work. Then the ticket brokers called and got the code and wiped out the tickets. When I called to complain, the response was pretty much get ####ed. Terrible.

Saad is one helluva player, so excited that he's still a Hawk. Sucks that in the NHL you are penalized for having a good team and drafting well, lost a few good players due to cap issues.
:lmao: You sound like the guy complaining about paying taxes on the powerball. Chicago is an all star team.
Even so, there should be a soft cap. If you draft and develop a true talent like Saad you shouldn't be forced to give him up if he wants to stay.

Another one it looks like they will be adding to that list is Teuvo.
Shaw may wind up there as well.

Thank you, Blackhawks. Signed: NBC.

The Blackhawks not only delivered huge ratings Saturday night, they also bring the promise of even bigger numbers for NBC for the Stanley Cup Final.

The Blackhawks’ victory in Game 7 posted a 3.27 overnight rating of major markets on NBC, the highest ever for a non-Stanley Cup Final game on the network; 1 national ratings point is worth the equivalent of more than 1 million homes. Complete national ratings will be available later, although it isn’t expected to fluctuate much from the overnight rating.

Once again, the Chicago market was huge for NBC, with a 26.6 rating on WMAQ-Ch. 5; 1 local ratings point is worth nearly 35,000 homes. It was the largest ever for Chicago for a non-Stanley Cup Final game and the third highest overall in the market.

By comparison, the game registered only a 3.9 rating in Los Angeles. That sigh of relief comes from NBC avoiding a Tampa Bay-Anaheim Final.

NBC didn’t hit the jackpot with a Chicago-New York Rangers Final, but it still is more than thrilled to have the Blackhawks playing into June. The network knows the robust Chicago market will drive its overall ratings for the Final.

What a great way to support the season ticket holders.
Called again today and the guy said "what do you want me to do, we're out of tickets."

It's always fun to counteract the NBA nerds who say the NHL will get killed in the ratings without a NY or LA team, as they get ready to watch teams from Cleveland and Oakland face off in their Finals.

Hawks did a great job of celebrating with their fans after their Cup wins ...celebrating into the night, and then the subsequent, huge rallies in Grant Park. I hope it all happens again. My son lived down the street from the Pony Inn, a favorite haunt of some of the players (and around the corner from Keith's house on the north side), and got to touch the cup and be part of the party in '13. My daughter and I got a picture with the cup at an event sponsored by a major bank sponsor of the team. I love how the teams bring the cup into their communities.

Should be a great final ...fast paced, if nothing else.

I suspect some fans view it as better ratings = more people watching and thus getting in the sport, meaning more fans, but I don't. The fan base is always going to be about the same for the sport, no matter how many bandwagon fans watch the finals or a specific playoff game because their local team just happens to be playing.

The NBA has their biggest superstar in the finals, again.

Im surprised you hockey nerd chest thumpers don't want good ratings for your sport. Should be just fine with Chicago in there this year. NYR/CHI would of been better.

Why would anybody care? Stupid baseball gets good ratings, should I hang a pennant outside my house declaring that or something?

Came here to post that stuff. Couldn't speak for three days. Skull fracture too. Full recovery expected thankfully.

Some talk the Caps are working on a deal with Holtby.

Wonder what kind of dollars they will have to shell out?I'm guessing the Green money will be a good part of it since I don't expect him back.

4 or 5 years for $20 million is my hope.

Looking at other deals, $6MM AAV seems more in line. How many RFA years would he still have coming to him?

He'll get more than that. 5 years, $30MM is my guess.

He's a RFA this year and made $2 million last season(his contract was for 2 years, first being $1.7 and the 2nd was $2).

I wouldn't be upset at $6M depending upon the length they give him but agree that will easily be in range.

Anybody catch any of the Memorial Cup?If so how has Madison Bowey looked of late?

Haven't seen many of his games this year and was wondering how he has been progressing besides his numbers(which have been pretty good).

Latest 30 Thoughts

some highlights:

In the last 6:50 of the clincher, New York’s only shot on goal was a 99-footer by Chris Kreider with one second left. The Rangers had four missed shots, and four more blocked.
By the way, in Tampa’s two Game 7s, Killorn’s led all Lightning forwards in ice time.

Sorr if this is a Honda but this gave me pause

After taking a Ryan McDonagh slap shot to that area in Game 5 of New York’s first-round win over the Pittsburgh Penguins, Zuccarello, he suffered a brain contusion via the team.

Said Zuccarello via the Daily News:

"I don't know what you guys know, but there was a small fracture in my head. I lost my talking and some feeling in my arm and stuff. I was in the hospital for three days," Zuccarello said. "I couldn't talk for a while. I had a contusion, some blood in my brain. That affects a lot. I went to speech therapy. I'm getting much better. I couldn't say a word for four days... I feel much better and I'm getting better and better."
http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/mats-zuccarello-temporarily-lost-ability-to-talk-and-move-arm-after-taking-puck-to-head-170746124.html

I'm biased but I say no. Not that Toews isn't awesome, but Yzerman is in the upper tier of HOF players imo.
Not yey, IMO. SY says that JT is "bigger, stronger and faster" but that's true of all players compared to SY's era. Some day, I think JT will be held in higher esteem than SY but not yet.

Obviously, Yzerman early in his career was better offensively than Toews will probably ever be. Was always buried on those Canada teams behind Gretzky and Lemieux (and Messier), but was not that far off them in skill level.

IMO, what the Blackhawks are doing now as a team is comparable to what Detroit did under Bowman with Yzerman, and doing it in a salary cap era with a leader as young as Toews is amazing. Bowman-era Yzerman is a great comparison for Toews though.
