2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs: All hail the Blackhawks, mudbutt (1 Viewer)

Nobody should beat Keith
Don't the sports writers vote for the winner? The same idiots who decide the three stars. Just sayin'.
The professional hockey writers associaiton does the voting, some names below. The good thing is Keith has gotten alot of press. To me, he really seemed to be scuffling games 4 and 5. Hopefully he has enough gas to play solid and Chi ends it in 6.

What happened in 06??
The Carolina Hurricanes won. Along the way they defeated Buffalo 4-3 in the Eastern Conf. Finals, they beat Edmonton in the Stanley Cup Finals 4-3, and before that, they had divorced Hartford after a couple of decades of a crappy marriage, leaving them with no team, no Cup, and only memories of a now-defunct franchise that hadn't won anything much until 2006; and even at that, they won in their new city.

So I think a few people in here are attached to those teams that Carolina defeated and the city they had left. Plus, from a hockey perspective, Carolina is hardly a hockey hotbed, to boot, which is fine; it's just that it was not an expansion franchise, it was a relocation from a hockey area to the South.

I hope others forgive me if I speak for them. They should feel free to add whatever, but this might be a brief and initial summation of it.

I figured there were just a lot of people who hate(d) Ray Whitney.

Interesting to see the ice time for the Hawks in game 5: Vermette and Versteeg, key players for the night, had less than 13 minutes of time each. All other front line players were over 14, and most were at 15 of 16 or more. Despite the lower numbers for those two, I don't recall seeing such balance before. Q really made good use of all 4 lines.

Sabres lost all their defensemen in the series with Carolina but still took a lead into the 3rd period of game 7. Then a delay of game penalty wound up basically killing them. They would have beaten the crappy Oilers team in the finals without a doubt. Not sure which hurt more between that year, No Goal, or Wide Right.

I'm not so sure the Sabres would have beat the Oilers without a doubt. The Oilers knocked off the Red Wings, Sharks and Ducks to get to the Finals and took the Hurricanes to 7 games even though they lost their top Goalie (Roloson) to injury in game 1 of the SCF. I hate to admit it, but Pronger was a beast in those playoffs.

new 30 thoughts up.

4. A couple of GMs indicated Cam Talbot is probably the top choice among cap-friendly, potential No. 1 options. Another suggested Lack second and Robin Lehner third.
Pretty sure we talked about this a couple months back but the low cap hit for next year makes him really appealing for a team who wants to give him an audition. If Edmonton is willing to part with #16 overall, especially thanks to getting #1 and all the other picks they have, they gotta do it.

I'd be shocked if someone gave up a pick that high for a goalie with 1 year left before hitting UFA status. Also, he put up great numbers playing on one of the best teams in the league with perhaps the best group of defensive defensemen...not sure if that translates to a team like Edmonton very well.

So if 'cago clinches tonight, does Taves hand the cup right to Timmonen?
I may be out of the loop but why would he do that?

I understand KT is close to a 20-year vet and will retire after this season, but his contributions to the Hawks have been somewhat modest and there are plenty of other players who deserve to have the Cup handed to them before KT IMO.

I really want to go to a game 7 of the cup finals at home. Even if they lost that would be an incredible experience. Go Bolts man.
