I haven't been really looking for this with him when he has played, but you keep beating the drum. So, I tried to do a little digging on the buzz on him heading into the draft. This guy certainly agrees with your opinion:I'm not sure. He plays so soft. He seems to always be confused and let's other guys make the tackles. I don't have a lot of hope for him. I do hope I'm wrong about him.
You think Atlanta plays as well on the grass in Lambeau? Or Minnesota away from their stadium while opening it up that night?I don't put a lot of stock in home vs away.
Stats don't tell the story. At the end of 2014 the Packers defense was one of the top 3 units in the league. They shut down the Seahawks hard, away. Everyone was healthy and the accumulation of draft picks send them into elite territory. Know when to use statistics - they lie sometimes. Injuries have ravaged them this year.I'll give you the injuries, but to say Capers has been one of the best over the past 20 years is an over statement.
2016: 26th in YPG
2015: 15th
2014: 18th
2013: 8th
2012: 22nd
2011: 1st (superbowl)
2010: 28th
2009: 31st
So really, Dom Capers has had 2 good seasons, the rest have been ho-hum to down right bad.
Can only blame injuries for so long. If Capers is such a defensive mastermind he should be able to make magic with whatever he's given. Bill Belichick is the greatest coach of this era, pains me to say that, and he seems like he can have anyone starting at QB, RB, WR and make them look great.
My point is, Capers is hardly one of the greatest minds on defense for the last decadesStats don't tell the story. At the end of 2014 the Packers defense was one of the top 3 units in the league. I sure as #### didn't think Chicago would march into Green Bay on the night they retired Favres jersey and honored Starr and beat them. But it happened. So you think Chicago would have beaten Minnesota in Minnesota?
I'm not even sure Green Bay plays their best ball on grass. You think Atlanta plays as well on the grass in Lambeau? Or Minnesota away from their stadium while opening it up that night?
I put quite a bit of stock on home vs. away in close games.
Wow. I hadn't read that honestly but it is congruent with what I have noticed a few times. Thanks for posting.I haven't been really looking for this with him when he has played, but you keep beating the drum. So, I tried to do a little digging on the buzz on him heading into the draft. This guy certainly agrees with your opinion:
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2441708-despite-recent-hype-damarious-randall-is-not-2015-nfl-drafts-top-safety-prospe
"In general, he is not a physical player and will do his best to keep his jersey clean. Big hits will not be a part of his repertoire and he is a major risk to be run over by bigger, more physical players in the NFL.
So when you talk about what Damarious brings to the table, you have an undersized, fluid athlete with great change-of-direction and enough speed to cover sideline to sideline. But you also get a guy who takes ill-advised risks, has poor functional strength and avoids physicality to a degree."
When Randall gets back, this is something I want to see. If Randall can cover, then I think the team might be willing to overlook a lack of physicality. After all, that about sums up Shields early on. If Randall isn't improving in the coverage aspect, then I'd be left to wonder what exactly he is bringing to the table. Between this and your commentary, I think my mind is changing on Randall. We need to get him back on the field, as this is feeling like a make or break second half of the season for him.
I think he can be a depth guy. The other thin I noticed is he gets up and instantly starts looking around at other players when he gets beat. iIs almost like he is pointing fingers with his body language.I haven't been really looking for this with him when he has played, but you keep beating the drum. So, I tried to do a little digging on the buzz on him heading into the draft. This guy certainly agrees with your opinion:

deflecting the questionI'm not even sure Green Bay plays their best ball on grass.
Um isn't that the year the defense choked against Seattle in the playoffs? Is seem to remember a Hail Mary 2 pointer conversion and a scrub torching Tramon in overtime. Also Hawk getting school by our old punter. Elite indeed.Stats don't tell the story. At the end of 2014 the Packers defense was one of the top 3 units in the league. What's the question?
You think Atlanta plays as well on the grass in Lambeau? Or Minnesota away from their stadium while opening it up that night?
answering "well GB doesn't play the best on grass" doesn't answer the question... You don't put stock in home vs away but here we've given two examples where home clearly benefits the team in question. So you think Chicago would have beaten Minnesota in Minnesota?
I think you're going to see the same wide open, pass happy Green Bay offense this weekend. Five wides, spread it out, run occasionally. Ripkowski made the most of his carries last week, but they aren't going to ground and pound with him. I'd say he'd be hard pressed to surpass 10 carries.I can see him getting the 10+ carries. Probably late if they get in clock killing mode. Watch the availability of Montgomery as well. That will play a factor. Only other options are Don Jackson, Cobb (hamstring?) and Montgomery (illness?). They are also very limited in the defensive backfield so they will want to control the clock and eat time against Luck.
Just in time since Tretter is now out a few weeks.I'm happy to see they're getting Linsley back.
They have changed theor training several times. This team really needs to look at their training methods. Wow.
Of course the casual fan has been saying this for years. And for McCarthy and Ted, it's a nice baked-in excuse at the end of the season too.
I agree. It's a contact sport, and this is part of the game. They have changed theor training several times.
ITs not going to orevemt the several concussions, Motgomery and his kidneys...or knee and ankle issues when guys get hit or rolled up on.
Yes, it seems to hit them hard and often. I don't know what to make of it. You can't prevent some of it, but it is frustrating to see it happen over and over. It's uncanny how often they are hurt though, you have to admit.
Exactly. I was going to post something similar the other day. Injuries happen - but the frequency and severity of injuries each and every year.....at some point that just isn't randomness. It's every year. I mean a year or two I could see, but this is a consistent thing over probably that last 5 or 6 years.
Yeah, or maybe it is. it isn't likecthey play 10000 games for a smoothed out average.Exactly. I was going to post something similar the other day. Injuries happen - but the frequency and severity of injuries each and every year.....at some point that just isn't randomness.
No, but with 50 players and 16 games we have like 800 data points per year......over multiple years.....Yeah, or maybe it is. it isn't likecthey play 10000 games for a smoothed out average.
Ok well I already stated I don't put a lot of stock in it. That means I don't think it matters much. Why bother with answering hypotheticals?
Matt Ryan down six with a minute to go in Green Bay? I don't think it makes any difference where they are.
Home Field sure didn't mean much on that drive to end the half. Luck just sliced through them like cool whip. This Packers D seems like a mirage. They are still bad in clutch situations. Hope the offense can get on track, they need this win. Decided to go back to stuff that didnt work to start the year.WTF is going on with these guys?
McCarthy is either stubborn, dumb or both. What a buffoon.Decided to go back to stuff that didnt work to start the year.
Worst offensive game plan all year.
Just pathetic to this point.
Not sure what it was today.McCarthy is either stubborn, dumb or both. What a buffoon.
Montgomery should have 20 touches/targets combined today. Defense choked too when they needed to make a play. Not sure what it was today.
Everything that looked good with Montgomery and Adams..they decided to focus on Richard Rodgers and Nelson today.
Pitiful all around today.
Defense was fine early...but that drive and the one to end the half were bad for them.
Yep, just like last week. Not a very clutch group. Ha Ha missing that sack was pathetic.Montgomery should have 20 touches/targets combined today. Defense choked too when they needed to make a play.
Last week you claimed they were improved in most areas...now you complain about the roster? Can't even beat the dregs anymore with any kind of consistency. Gross effort all around.
Janis showed why he's a depth guy at best. Rodgers throwing picks on consequtive throws. Defense just choking in the clutch again. Not much left to say really. This just isn't a very good team right now. This is what happens when your roster isn't properly constructed. Tennessee no gimme next week either. I had high hopes for the team, but they just don't come up with the plays in the clutch. Plain and simple. This is why I don't put a lot of stock in home field advantage. It doesn't mean #### most of the time.
When you are an NFL team and you are centering your game plan around the skills of Richard Rodgers, you are in trouble.
Team will be lucky to go 9-7.
I dont think its the roster right now.I think I was wrong last week. This roster is a mess.
True. The running back situation is a direct result of poor planning and/or scouting. It's a personnel problem.I dont think its the roster right now.
OTher than the injuries.
Not utilizing Montgomery today was bad.
Not having a running game is bad.
Not having Clay was bad.
But Todgers missed some early...the drop by Janis was awful.
And Slocum returning for the opening kickoff sucked.
Yeah they are missing Shields. Randall is more of the same though. He's not an appreciable upgrade over Gunter or Rollins. Shields is for sure.Clay...and a few corners that are out. yes
