2016 Oakland Raiders thread (1 Viewer)

And the #32 passing team in the NFL.  But keep being obtuse and ignoring my point, I'll be concentrating on more productive conversations.
sammy watkins makes the passing game more potent...MY point is they are better than you are giving them credit for ...but thats just me ...i find the silver lining as opposed to complaining...have a great night my fellow Raiders fan

What I don't like is the coaching matchup between Andy Reid and Ken Norton.  From a talent perspective, the Raiders can match the Chiefs.

But I don't trust the coaching staff to outcoach the Chiefs.  Particularly the defensive staff. Musgrave has shown he can scheme well at times, but in my humble opinion, we have had our wins based on talent.  You can point to times that Musgrave has had a good scheme, but if you look at the story of our wins, you point to individual performance of players that are better than the the guy they are going against.  Simply put, we have a better roster than most teams, and Carr to Coop/Crab and Mack vs. any RT in the league is not a product of coaching, but matchup football.  Anyone remember a time we had a sack that came from a good scheme, a smart look that fooled the offense? I can't.

The Chiefs meanwhile, have ben doing it with mirrors, a little bit.  If you are looking at a team with a critical eye, you can point to our defense, and can the team win a title with the current defense?  By the same token , you can look at the Chiefs, and wonder if the can count on Pick-6's and special teams play to beat good teams regularly.  The Chiefs have not been a scary good team all season long, they've just been well-coached, don't make mistakes, hang around, and win on big plays.  Alex Smith is a nickel and dime QB, but that's what kills us, that underneath passing game.

Everyone is hyping the game as battle for the crown, but it means more to the Chiefs than us.  If the Chiefs lose, they are two games behind with 3 to play.  We can lose, and if we game one more game in the standings, we take the division.

This game means more in terms of keeping pace as the #1 overall seed.

I think it's about time we give props to a player who no one is really talking about. Jihad Ward. A rookie, he has stepped in day one as a starter on the DL. He hasn't put up big numbers but he's been learning on the job and battling every week. I would say he is the standout rookie of this draft class including Richard. To get a day one starter at any position with a 2nd round draft pick is a win in my humble opinion. And it's a testament to the great job Reggie and his scouting department have done. It will be interesting to see how his role changes (if it does at all) when Edwards comes back.

Peters on Cooper or Crabtree??? Seems like when the points flow it's when Cooper has a long catch here and there and the majority of the throws go to Crabs or Roberts.

The Oakland defense has recorded multiple turnovers in four consecutive games.
The Raiders D/ST has racked up 10 sacks in those same four games, producing at least seven fantasy points in each contest. Oakland went 4-0 on the four-game homestand, and their defense is beginning to show signs of life after a sluggish start to the season. The Raiders D/ST will be a mid-range fantasy option in Week 14 at Arrowhead Stadium against the Chiefs, who have turned the ball over just 11 times in 2016.

You are what your record says you are.

Raiders had to travel across country to Buffalo. Back to Cali and then fly back to KC to play in 12 degree weather on a short week. Might come out flat.

PS Arrowhead will be the loudest stadium all year long. I fell good about this one. If the Raiders leave town with a win that is a legit one.

Old bad blood. I love Raider week.

Yep, this game is a scary one. Always has been tough to win at Arrowhead, and hopefully we shrug the weather and any averse affects off. It's more the short week and the constant high the team has been on -- always snatching a victory from defeat's jaw, always rallying, always fighting to the end.

It's what has defined us as a team and has also defined our record this year, but there's bound to be a flat game somewhere. It's the worst week to happen, but can see it happening on a short turnaround, despite the meaning of the game.

The Chiefs are 100% legit. No way are they doing it with mirrors. The team has won a ridiculous amount of games from last year into this year, and have beat multiple different styles of teams by adapting and executing when needed. Their D is stout, and they can hurt you on the ground and in the air.

It's too bad there is so much riding on this game, as I think the home turf is the separator factor here. Our boys need to come in with "The Road is our Home" attitude and find a way to score early and often.

The Chiefs have been pulling victory from the jaws of defeat quite a bit too.

Their last four games; Atlanta, Denver (home), Carolina (home) were all games it looked like they were going to lose until they pulled it out and they also lost to Tampa Bay for good measure (didn't exactly crush Jacksonville either).

####.

it's been a long time since i've been this nervous for a game.
The Raiders have a 50% of winning this game. The Raiders O is for real.  Nobody can stop it. Unfortunately, the Chefs are a good team all the way around. This is going to be a tough game.

add in the fact that most Thursday night games end up having a strange way about them...teams dont play the way they usually do ...cant figure out why

I get this feeling like this is building up to one of the most anticipated rivalry games in a recent memory.

So happy this is a prime time game - should be Monday Night Football, not TNF.

I'll be at a party at my buddy's place with a bunch of crazy Raider fans and other football fans and I'm already excitedly all. Giddy even.

Raiders win and control their own destiny. Easier said than done against an elite Chiefs defense and a Chiefs team that could be looking at their window closing and a pretty apparent power shift in the AFC West over the next couple years.

Chiefs have an easier test against the Raiders D, but without the firepower of the Raiders O.

This is the game of the year IMO.  A "I had to work but called in sick" kind of game.

So excited!  :excited:

I'm with you - they're such a good road team and their defense is playing better than when these teams first met up. I'd give the raiders a 51/49 chance here.

Arrowhead is a brutal place to play though and the elements could come into play with very cold temps & possibly snow? It's gonna be great.

Cooper put up 130 something yards last game to Crabs 10

OH MY GOD WHY ISN'T IT THURSDAY ALREADY?!?!?!?!?

THIS IS TAKING FOOOREEVVER!!@!!
Tell me about it. Made sure my pc was being charged last night, I live on the other side of the planet, in preparation to watch this game this morning at work

only 24hours too early

What a lame color rush uniform.  I was looking forward to seeing them all black head to toe, Vader style helmets and all.

The all-white with silver numbers/letters?!? Seriously?  That is my 2nd favorite all-time uniform to the Chargers powder blue.

It a nightmare trying to read the numbers but I love the look.

Agree with Hot Sauce here, if only because the color rush unis are nearly throwbacks to our unis in '63.

All black would have been good, but all silver (and more of a quicksilver than our gray/silver) may actually been more interesting in terms of the color rush concept.

I call the whole color rush concept into question given that in most games, one team's "color" rush unis are predominantly white.

I ignore the color rush thing, it's a lame money grab by the league, a hokey promotion, and I'm just thankul we have a color scheme where eithr chice is OK.

The Jags, on the other hand, had something truly offensve.

Lame probably isn't the right word because they are pretty sweet, I would just much prefer solid black.  Bruno's got it right though, any color looks good when we're winning a game.

I'm unreasonably nervous about this coming down to Jano needing to hit a big or game winning FG.

This feels like waiting for a playoff game, which honestly I think is great for the team/fanbase/organization because it's a real trial by fire for that sort of game later this year.

I do not think you are being unreasonably nervous.  It is just that many of us long-time Raider fans have not had a game matter like this in over a decade.  It is unchartered ground again.  I am going to be a ball of nerves bouncing off the walls this evening.  I hope the Raiders come out hot and score points early.  These comeback games every week are going to take a toll on the ticker eventually.

Not that I need any more motivation or rooting interest in this game but from a fantasy angle I need to win my game this week AND have another team lose.  The guy I need to beat is starting Alex Smith & the KC Defense.  The guy I need to lose is facing Amari Cooper.

As go the Raiders so goes my fantasy team.  Love it.

That's the one - love those. IIRC those were even tougher to read since they didn't have the black piping around the numbers, and the letters were silver too. Made it a nightmare for broadcasters, but I loved the look.

I'm a little conflicted - I want the Raiders to win, but have Justin Houston, Derick Johnson and Eric Berry.  Since I'll be in a room full of Raider fans I'll have to celebrate very, very quietly for sacks and tackles. And if Berry gets a pick-6 I may have to excuse myself so I can do the happy dance away from others, for fear of being beaten to death with nearby household objects.

Never a conflict for me.  I had LeSean and Watkins going last week and was rooting for the Raiders to shut them out and steal their girlfriends.

Lots top be nervous about. Our O vs their D is the storyline and likely decider of this game, which makes our defensive performance against their O that much more important.

O/U on this game is 46 last time I checked -- if we can hold the Chiefs from getting on the board too often we leave ourselves a good shot at winning just on the basis of our more dynamic offense. Need to take a page from the Steeler playbook here when they beat the Chiefs earlier this season and score early and often, making Smith play catch-up.

Something I didn't think about until now is how Carr playing exclusively out of the shotgun will play out. Now there has been plenty of tape of plays, motions, trends from that formation since Carr injured his finger, and the Chiefs generally game plan well. Narrowing our playbook to shotgun formation naturally limits our offensive looks. Carr will need to be solid with audibles, and the guys up front are going to need to be nasty to help establish the run game in single back sets.

Avoid turnovers, watch out for the gimmicks, make them beat you straight up.
This.

Easier said than done with the Walrus, since it's like 40% gimmicks. Gotta bottle up Tyreek " The Freak " too - special teams play will be key for the Raiders. Don't give the Chiefs easy field position or let Hill take one to the house.  Crazy as it might sound King is a critical weapon in this game. Bottle up Hill and you partially hamstring the Chiefs gadget plays and possibly force them to commit to extended drives.

Alex Smith is a game manager / dink and dunk QB - the longer the field, the more plays he's gonna need to beat you. So force him to start drives inside his 20 and that'll go a long way IMO.
