2016 Oakland Raiders thread (1 Viewer)

Lame probably isn't the right word because they are pretty sweet, I would just much prefer solid black.  Bruno's got it right though, any color looks good when we're winning a game.

If we HOST a Thursday night game next year, maybe we'll have All Black color rush uniforms. I assume that we're all white instead of all black since we're the road team, no?

can't concentrate on work at all. Damn, it's been 14 YEARS since a game this important. Wow.

This.

Easier said than done with the Walrus, since it's like 40% gimmicks. Gotta bottle up Tyreek " The Freak " too - special teams play will be key for the Raiders. Don't give the Chiefs easy field position or let Hill take one to the house.  Crazy as it might sound King is a critical weapon in this game. Bottle up Hill and you partially hamstring the Chiefs gadget plays and possibly force them to commit to extended drives.

Alex Smith is a game manager / dink and dunk QB - the longer the field, the more plays he's gonna need to beat you. So force him to start drives inside his 20 and that'll go a long way IMO.
Pfftt. One fake punt and all of a sudden its smoke and mirrors.

Chiefs are the definition of solid. I'd watch out for ware right, ware left, ware up the middle Kelce up the seam TD!!!!!

And then some smash mouf defense.

Kelce scares me more than anyone on the Chiefs in this matchup.

Raiders haven't been good against TEs dating back to last season.

One benefit of this nasty cold front is it is going to put their fans on ice.  I don't care how liquored up you are; this is pretty brutal conditions in the Midwest.

We're one of only 6 teams wearing white.  Meanwhile the Cardinals and 49ers are wearing black :loco:

http://news.sportslogos.net/2016/09/13/all-32-nfl-teams-unveil-color-rush-uniforms/

well, there goes my home/away theory ;)

Looking at that whole page of 32 teams color rush unis, our All White actually holds up really well compared to some of the crap the other teams are wearing.

Yes, the 9ers all-black is lame, but I'd love to see the Raiders All Black next year if they stick with this schtick.

Why would you kick it to one of the most explosive players in the NFL right in the center of the field? They we're doing so good keeping him pinned to the sideline. Bonehead play...

TD right before half was YUGE.  Game is well within reach at this point.  Turnovers are going to be key, KC was +30 coming into tonight - THIRTY.  That's absurd.  We need to get another one and not commit any ourselves.  Need our D to stop making it so hard on the O.  Joseph being out is rough, that TD catch was right past Allen, his replacement.  Out of position and unable to recover.

Oh, and don't freaking kick it to Hill.

It was ugly, the Chiefs get props for sweeping us but I still didn't see anything in that team that makes me think we can't beat them. We'll be in the playoffs and a team no one wants to play.

Ugh. That loss was on Derek Carr and special teams. Mack and Co. forced 3 TOs but the Raiders only came away with 6 points. I'll blame Carr's inaccuracy on the pinky and cold, but this was the first time Carr has faced pass rush pressure in a while too. Then on special teams the King punt and the botched FGA.

I see Carr has improved against the pass rush. Check out the SD game where he went into the fatal position behind an Olineman with only one rusher coming thru strong. Tonights game he kept his eyes up and scrambled well, for the most part.

O sucked for the most part, Murray proving he goes off against the division once again, and i hope that was due to the elements and injuries as opposed to the pressure of the game and the hype. We got KC after their bye and on the road on a short week meh we were bound to lose at one point or another.

Anyone keep an eye on KOs replacement? How did that go?

If I were still a betting man, I'd wager that was probably the coldest game So Cal kid Carr ever played in. And he looked cold and I imagine it didn't help the pinky either. He had a bad game. But here's the problem: He always has a bad game against the Chiefs. And as for the cold, we have to go to Denver soon, and now being the 5th seed we could very well be playing in freezing temps again. It's something Carr is going to have to get over. But a Raider victory in Arrowhead would have been huge. The defense showed up, which surprised me to be honest. It's not the end of the world, but it would've been nice to get KC at least once. Oh well, might get our revenge in the playoffs...

I'm hearing a lot about Carr's pinky being the culprit. But it didn't hold him back last week. Unless the thought process is that the cold had made the pain worse. But he's had 2 weeks now to recover from the dislocations.

The offense just looked bad. They were running effectively with Latavius but wouldn't commit to the run. They kept trying to throw the ball and when they did, they weren't utilizing their playmakers much. They kept throwing short routes to Walford, Rivera, Richard and Roberts. Carr threw to Roberts 6-8 times and he caught 2 of them? I don't know the stats, but he was consistently not making plays. It didn't look like they were trying to stretch the field at all during the game and relying on short dump routes for whatever reason. I'm hearing on Sirius NFL radio that it was all the secondary etc etc. But if you watch the tape, Carr was only doing half field reads. He has Crabtree on one side and Cooper on another and wouldn't' even look in one of those guys' direction much of the game. I was surprised he wasn't going through his progressions more since there is a lot of MVP talk for him. The pass rush really wasn't there. I don't recall him being hit a ton of times. They looked flat. When Cooper did get his hands on a ball, the way he got up was slowly and almost achy looking. I don't know if that's the cold or something bothering him but he didn't seem to have much fire.

The bad.... Penalties, more drops/failed execution , poor playing calling in critical moments, and a few bounces that just didn't go our way.

T. Jones steps out of bounds for a 5 yard penalty and a re-punt.  King punts to the middle of the field and Hill takes it back for 7.  A TD that ended up being a big factor later in the game.

False start on a critical 4-1? That hurt.

How many drops did the WRs group have last night? A few of the catches would have been more difficult than others.. Roberts must have had 3.  Crabtree had a few in key moments, one covered up by a PI call,  Riveria had one for sure. Combine that with a few errant throws from Carr on an off night and the passing game took a huge hit.

Critical drive, need a TD, it's 3-1 and you throw to the WR4?  And this at a point where Murray was running strong.  It worked in other games, sure.  But Musgrave and Carr needed to make that adjustment in yesterdays game and they didn't. Clock wasn't an issue, getting the first down should have been the only priority.

Didn't pick up on it during the game yesterday, but reports this morning are that the throw to Cooper where he had beat the coverage but seemed to lose the ball in the lights may have actually been the result of the ball hitting one of the wires from the spider camera.  Tough break there.

The good... The D played their best game of the season in my opinion.  Made adjustments after a rough start and forced 3 turnovers.  They did their job last night.  I thought Carrie and Allen played well (outside of the TD throw to Hill) filling in for the injured starters.  Mack again proved that he can impact games, and finishes strong.  Raiders need to find a means to help Irvin in run coverage when teams run away from Mack.

9 days to get healthy, refocus, and attack the remainder of the schedule.   Hopefully the team builds off of this game and doesn't use it as an excuse.

I was overall satisfied with the game last night.  Of course a win would be ideal but I really like how the team didn't fold after getting down big.  Not only didn't they fold the defense really took it to KC.

KC has the Raiders number for sure but that was a game that was in reach until the very end when it looked like it was going to be a blow out.  Get Osemele in there and/or a few weeks more for Carr to heal (to open up the whole playbook) and we may be talking about a different result.

One thing that baffles me is 9 targets for Seth Roberts.  Guy dropped maybe 3 balls before that last 4th down play, why was he the target on that one? If you're gonna chuck it up there give Cooper, Crabtree or Walford the chance not Seth Roberts on a sideline jump ball. If you are going to go to Roberts then shouldn't they try to sneak him up an inside seam or crossing pattern in that situation?  He just doesn't seem like the sideline jump pass type of WR, but maybe that's just me.

Wow. If that were true, they should have had a redown. That play cost me and many others 10+ points.

Carr went to him all game, and he didn't look like he was progressing through his reads much. He didn't even look at Crabtree or Cooper a lot of the time. I don't think it was just playcalling.

What a horsesit display. The Chiefs whipping them I can understand but they were whipped by the elements too. Not sure they can win in New England or Pittsburgh or Kansas City in December or later.
Carr was inadequate to put the best spin on it. I hope it was his finger and that he’s not a soft southern Cal QB who can’t play when the elements go south. And this wasn’t even that bad. Low 20s? Wind not a real factor but it looked like Raiders let the weather get inside their heads. Only Murray didn’t really seemed bothered. Cooper, Crabs and Roberts all with  drops.

On the bright side, they were in it til the end despite playing like crap and the D contained the run until late. On the downside, when you win the turnover battle like that, you should be on the winning side. But I never felt like they were gonna win or that they ever imposed their wills on the game. They were outplayed.

They’re at least a right tackle and left cornerback away from being real contenders.

Was pretty disappointed to say the least.

The running game was working so well.  We were gutting KC up the middle, especially with Johnson going down.   I don't understand why we went away from that.

Carr was terrible, and Crabs and Coop couldn't catch a cold last night.    And why kick to Tyreek Hill!

Yeah.  Crabs got 7 targets but I would have like to see him with 9 or 10 (although he drops some easy ones too), but it was Walford they really ignored with only 3 targets.  I really thought that when Derrick Johnson went down they would exploit the MLBs.  They got KC with the run but didn't take advantage of the middle of the field passing.

I didn't like the build up, as the game for all the marbles.

They have the same record as us now, and while they hold a tie breaker, if they lose a game, they are back in the same boat.  Same with NE, by the way.  (GO RAVENS).

This one meant a lot more to KC's playoff chances than ours, they fall behind two games in the losss column, their division hopes are dashed.  They have TEN/DEN/SD coming up, that is a tough three game spread to run the table.  What we lost last night was complete drivers seat in the AFC West, and control of our own destiny.  That sucks, but frankly, a  little bit of urgency or the stretch run is not the worst thing ever.  The biggest thing is that this increases the likelihood that if we face KC or NE in playofs, it's on the road.  That's not great, but it's not for sure, and it's not the end of the world.

Big ups to the defense, Norton had them ready and disciplined. No one wiull talk about it, but the defense is improving (same as last year).

Derek Carr isn't infallible, that's a bummer to find out  .  I do put that loss on him, a bit.  The receivers deserve some blame, we have seen them make a lot of the tough catches they missed/dropped last night.  The offense to my mind looked tight, like they were pressing, like they were freaking out about playing the CHIEFS, this monkey they have to get off their back.  I didn't see the confidence, that looseness that the O gives off.  We've seen a little bit of ''we got this'' cockiness as the season has gone on, and I didn't get that last night.  Right now, I think the Chiefs are in their head a bit.

Of course, maybe that's me projecting my own personal feelings onto the team.   :(

Regarding the missing bodies, hey we have depth, and it's next man up.  No excuses there.  Frankly, that game was in reach, and the offense dropped the ball the defense handed to it.  Getting three points off two turnovers really was the story.

You take that team we had last night, add Karl Joseph, Osemele, and Mario Edwards, and I like our chances.

Whenever Carr releases the ball, the time when I am most confident, right before the ball arrives, is when he is throwing intermediate/deep down the middle.

Sick of them testing Peters.  What is this, some d!ck measuring contest?  Stop throwing at him.

Howard needs to be replaced next year. Clowney owned him a few weeks ago and he looked like a revolving door last night. Good to see Watson out there, maybe he's healthy enough to take back the RT spot.

Glad I didn't post last night.  After taking the day, I am much less deflated.  It sucks we got a pretty solid day out of our D and we lost.  It sucks balls we got 3 turnovers, gave none up, and lost.  It sucks that WE are the freaking opponent when the Chiefs, for the first time in 44 years, overcome a 0-3 turnover margin to win.  And while part of me wanted to say "that's so Raiders", a much larger part of me no longer believes that.

Carr was awful, no bones about it.  And he's the reason we lost, no question.  But that happens, and it happens to them all.  We know that's not him and we know he's won us a lot more games than the one he cost us today.  I like that his finger clearly wasn't right but he's not going to use that as an excuse.  He played bad, it's that simple.

We're still 10-3 and in complete control of making the playoffs.  If you'd have offered me that in May I would have taken the under by a lot.  Not letting last night take this away from me.

Was very unsatisfied with the game last night. We kept it close, which was good, and some things you sometimes can't just fix enough (e.g. Carr's pinky pain), but it's hard not to see how we compounded our own defeat.

1) Carr -- he was clearly affected because his spirals weren't tight and had a lot of flutter on the ball. But above and beyond that, he simply wasn't making reads effectively, and his decision making wasn't cool, calm, and collected as it usually is under duress. He had a bad day.

And before others chime in with the "it was the coldest game Carr ever played in" -- you know what? Tough. Suck that up. That's not something that should ever come in to play. Football is played outdoors, and in inclement weather. Deal and adjust. Most years, the road in the playoffs leads through north and east teams where cold weather will be a factor. This is something any playoff team needs to push through if they are going to be successful in post season.

2) Drops. So Carr's timing and accuracy weren't great but Roberts at least had his hands on many of those balls. Reel it the f in. Same with Crabs and Cooper. Bad day on our receivers

3) 3 turnovers and not capitalizing. I think we only got 3 points on the initial 2 turnovers. We score on either and we put ourselves in the position we want to be in.

4) Game plan -- we should have been running more often, and switching up some of the playcalling and tempos. Carr being in gun all of the game limits the playbook somewhat, so you need to adjust to this and how the D keys in on it.

5) We allowed about 4 or 5 big plays to happen. Bound to happen in the NFL, but seems to happen to us frequently and too often. Especially when down and distance favor us.

So, so bitter of a pill to swallow going from 1st to 5th seed in one game, and now by all likelihood looking at wild card instead of the potential bye and home field advantage. That really blows.

But season isn't over yet, so on to the next game and see if we can regain that position, take heart in that this team is a bona-fide contender, and look to create nightmares for others in the last games and postseason play as we continue to try and fulfill our own dreams.

Speaking of Walford, when the heck is he going to emerge? Rivera has been more relevant than Walford recently. Needles to say, Walford has been a disappointment in my eyes. A threat at TE is what this team is really missing.

Bitter, yes. But keep things in perspective. Usually at this time of year all we had to look forward to was the draft in April. This is much better!

I think they just haven't been using him.  Or more to block, with big Lee Smith out.

His usage is a disappointment, but I haven't really seen HIM not play well.

I dunno, he gambles and loses too.  Richard was wide open and Carr just missed him.  One reason he makes so many plays is guys throw at him because he gives a ton up too.  I trust Carr to be smart and miss in the right spot like he did with the overthrow.  Eventually that's gonna hit.

This is what I'm going with too. I would have taken a wild card spot in a heart beat before the season. Also, there are 3 games left, anything can happen. Plus our players get a mini-bye to get healthy. I think we emerged from the game without any new injuries, so that's good. On to San Diego.

I think you need to show them early in the game that you are not going to shy away and try to set something up for later.

Howard needs to be replaced next year. Clowney owned him a few weeks ago and he looked like a revolving door last night. Good to see Watson out there, maybe he's healthy enough to take back the RT spot.
Yeah I think the glaring weakness on offense has been RT and I would like to see an early pick spent on a new RT.  I also would like to see them grab a young WR with a day 2 pick.  Holmes is definitely not the answer at WR#3 and I have always questioned Roberts consistency.

Day One next year I think we would all like the Raiders to go after the best DB available.  We need a guy who can play with Tyr   Hill for the next 6 years.

On to San Diego.
We better grind them to dust.

We had also better take the fullest advantage of home field vs the Colts. Their D doesn't scare me but the big-play O (and their use of good TEs) does.

Denver on the road can go either way. I think we have the vastly better O but their D is still top notch. They may be playing for the same Wildcard slot we are, too.

Need to finish strong. Agree with those that I'm ecstatic that we seem to be in control of our playoff destiny, such a far cry from the last decade and a half. But as I've said in this thread before, while I'm incredibly enthused about the huge leap, this team is too good to settle expectations. If we're going to be winners, we need to act like winners, and not settle for second best.

Read somewhere that part of the reason the Chiefs took Tyreek in rd 5 (when many thought he'd go undrafted) was because they were convinced that the Raiders were planning to take him in rd 6.

Carr's pinky is hurting his accuracy.

If Amari TD really was affected by camera wire, that's bush league.
