My son played in a tournament against Dan Girardis kid today. I felt bad for saying all those negative things in here when I was face to face with him checking our cell phones in the lot since there was no reception in the rink.
He was over paid face to face or not, don't sweat it.

Look at me, I saw Dan Girardi!

Brodin protected, as I expected.  he's better and has more value.  still can send Vegas a pick to take Haula over Dumba but if they take Dumba no big deal.  Reilly Olofsson are better anyway.  trade return for him must not have been greater than what they'd have to pay Vegas not to take D.

Columbus giving up a 1st to protect Jack Johnson over Ryan Murray is crazy to me
Must have been fake news because Ryan Murray is on the Blue Jackets protected list, Johnson is not.

I hope the Oilers lose Pouliot to Vegas, but I think it will probably be Griffin Reinhart. They gave up quite a bit to get him, but I don't think he projects to be much more than a 3rd pairing DMan. Too slow.

They might lose Pitlick or Kris Russell instead of Reinhart. Russell was only signed to a one year contract, so he must be considered under contract until June 30th if he shows up under Available Players from Edmonton.

Sure says a lot about Mrazek.  Guy looked like the best goalie they've had since Hasek two years ago, now at 25 he's left unprotected.  I still don't think I agree unless the plan is to trade Howard regardless of Mrazek's fate.

I know that Maata is a young former 1st round pick, but going with 8 skaters instead of 7 / 3 to protect him over Hags and Rust might bite the Pens in the ### if Vegas isn't set on Fleury.
They are taking Fleury. And there is no way the Pens were letting Maatta get away. I hate that Rust is out there but it is what it is.

Rumor has it that they have a deal in place for Vegas to take Vatanen.   Manson is the guy the Ducks really don't want to lose.

Losing Vatanen frees up $$ to sign Fowler and Eaves
It will be interesting to see how it all plays out because some of the other rumors have proven to be BS.

I just read this:

"The unprotected list includes players eligible to become restricted or unrestricted free agents, which the Golden Knights have the option to sign over the next three days. Any pending free agent signed would count as Vegas' expansion-draft selection from that player's team".

So, if I am Vegas, I grab Kris Russell from the Oilers. You could easily flip him for more assets or keep him as a veteran leader who is good in the locker room. There have been rumors that he is in demand after his regular season and playoff run with the Oilers. Rumors also have it he is looking for a 4 year deal at $4 mil per.

I know that I'm being impatient with Maata. But just way too many bad unforced turnovers for a guy whose main strength is supposed to be his hockey sense.

Yeah I know what you are saying. But he's still so young and yet has a lot of experience already. If they can sign a high end free agent, and resign Schultz and Dumo to 4 year deals, it's hard to argue with Letang, Schultz, Cole, Maatta, Dumo, and whoever they sign. In that scenario Maatta might be in the third pairing.

Islanders protected 5 Dmen and only 3 Forwards. TSN reporting they are sending their 1st round pick to Vegas so they don't take one of their Forwards in the expansion draft.   If the rumor is true, that is the 15th overall pick they are giving to Vegas. WTF Garth Snow?

Pack your bags Calvin de Haan I guess?

Who does Vegas take from Nashville - Neal or Sissons?

ETA- never mind. I had Neal and Fisher's ages mixed up for some reason. So, barring a deal, Neal is moving to Vegas.

That's the plan. And the feeling is enough was offered so neither will be taken. http://www.ocregister.com/2017/06/17/nhl-trade-freeze-is-underway-and-sami-vatanen-is-still-with-the-ducks-for-the-time-being/ …

Link not working. So, neither will be taken means Vatanen and....Manson or somebody else?

I personally want no part of any high end (expensive and usually overpaid) free agents.

ETA: Try to keep Bones and Daley rather than give Shattenkirk or Alzner a contract that the team will regret down the road. If Cullen and Kunitz want one year deals, sure. Look for bargain depth. Absolutely no need to be heavily involved in free agency IMO.

that's wishful thinking

Lol, not an awful team. I didn't fact check to make sure this is possible but I'm assuming it is.

Here is what the Vegas Golden Knights will look like on opening night if they only pick Rangers in the expansion draft. https://t.co/sYKfOGEAWP

Fairly surprising.  Should be interesting for Las Vegas.  Do they go with Sheahan and his potential or take Mrazek in a goalie load up.

That link isn't working for me. Does it take me to the site that says your Habs haven't won the cup since Kurt Cobain was alive?
No.  It takes you to a site that acknowledges that the Habs are the winningest franchise in NHL history, and arguably the most successful franchise in team sports history.

Question for the experts

If Vegas drafts perfectly from the available players will they be competitive?
No. They could have a pretty good defensive core, but no offense to compete. They'll pass on the available defensemen to get more draft picks.

"A reminder: Dylan Larkin is exempt because he is second-year player. Red Wings did not have to protect him."
