2017 Summer Football Tournament- Tournament cancelled, everyone go home (1 Viewer)

mex ---------------------> this
what I love is Mex was 70/30 possession at half, and up on shots as well.

81st min: 60/40 & 20/5 to 10/6 (shots/on-goal)... but down 3-0.

also looking at match-tracker... they subbed out jon de santos and put in raffa.. while down 3-0. swan song for the ol hacking *******?

also just read a short article about CRO bailing out of the 3rd place game to see his new twins... born via surrogate. is there a wife in place? mom? any kind of woman? or is he just populating the world with children via surrogacy on his own?

Watched this at with a bunch of my Mexican clients, the loud groans and boos when Rafa came on made me laugh.

Then Can stomping him made my day

it's much nicer not listening to the announcers. or maybe that's just me.
Most announcers don't bother me, but this pair is brutal.   The "AIM!!!!! FIRE!!!!!" lunacy on free kicks is cringe worthy.

The guy can barely speak English...........and I am talking about Cobi here :)

I haven't bothered listening to in-game stuff for years. every now and then I'll turn it up in case something happens I'm unsure of... otherwise, I'll wait until half-time and sometimes listen to the half-time analysis. usually not.

honestly- phil schoen and jp killed me on listening.

So UEFA U21 championship match features Germany vs Spain. ESPN holds broadcast rights but can't find anywhere to broadcast on their numerous channels so it's stream on espn3 only.

Brilliant.

So I flipped over to the last few minutes of the Mexico Germany replay last night. Told my wife how much I hate these announcers.

I asked her if she could understand the play by play guy. Her response "No, i dont speak Spanish."   :lmao:

ESPNU has been showing a bunch of the games.

They are showing the Final today live at 2:45pm.

ESPN Deportes is also showing the game.

I giggle every time I see the new thread title.

I picture gator rocking back and forth in the fetal position arguing with himself if CR7 should've kicked first or not.

Needless elbow from Jara.  Should be a red.  Idiot.

Can't believe it was a yellow.  Jara was applauding the decision.  He knew he should have been sent off.

So Germany wins the U-21 championship, now their JV team wins the Confederations Cup.  Is the World Cup going to be Germany versus and world All-star team?

Was this rally their JV squad, or are a lot of the 2014 players past their prime?
I expect that Neuer, Kroos, Hummels, and Ozil, at the very least will be 2018 starters. Reus too if healthy.  Mueller will have to work hard to lose his spot.  Of this group, only Kimmich seems a sure fire starter to me. Maybe Draxler.

Definitely a B team.  Some notable players missing:

GK Manuel Neuer

DF Mats Hummels

DF Benedikt Höwedes

DF Jérôme Boateng

MF Leroy Sané

MF Mesut Özil

MF Toni Kroos

MF Sami Khedira

MF Julian Weigl

MF Mario Götze

MF İlkay Gündoğan

MF Kevin Volland

MF Serge Gnabry

MF Karim Bellarabi

FW Thomas Müller

FW Mario Gómez

FW André Schürrle

As of today, Kimmich and Hector are probably the only likely starters for Germany next summer who were on this Confed team, although Mario Gomez might have a hard time holding off the several forwards Germany has played this summer.*  Germany was the youngest of the 8 teams in Russia. A lot could happen between now and next summer though, there are lots of possibilities between this team, the U21 team that also won a title this summer, and whatever is going on in Loew's head.  In any event, it seems Spain and France are both loaded with great young superstars, but Germany seems to have more sheer numbers of talented young players coming out of the woodwork.  One might conclude that the huge financial advantage the English clubs have tends to lead them to buy established talent, whereas the clubs in Germany, France, Spain have to focus more on developing talent in their academies. That's kind of a knee-jerk hot-take, but there may be something to it.  Its well-known that the German DFB has been extremely focused on youth development for the past 15 years or so, having implemented a major overhaul of their club/academy system in the early 2000's.

* edit - and possibly Draxler

My German friends all discount Juergen's involvement in the "Extended Talent Promotion Program", in hindsight of course, but he was definitely part of it.

Great article by Uli Hesse for those who are interested: https://www.theblizzard.co.uk/article/learning-press
While JK clearly had little acumen for coaching, I still think he could have been a solid technical director.

He would have had to make two big changes to his style though.  He would have had to travel the country constantly visiting every academy and top youth clubs coast to coast instead of almost never leaving his California home.   And he obviously had to change his public demeanor towards MLS in the hopes of creating a good working environment instead of the miserable environment it became.

Btw... Watching Mex v Por now with the sound up. Cobi.. good Lord. And the obviously Mex guy is obviously mexing it up. Not sure he's sure what a lot of the English words he's using mean. Looking forward to

Wait a sec... 18 mins in and the replay just cut to commercial?! Wtf?! ####### fox pulling out the stops as usual. Oh. Now they've just cut forward to the second half.
