When you look at each week last year and count the higher score between them, they would have been like a top 5 TE in FFPC with over 200 points. I wouldn’t want to have to choose which to start each week so the best ball format is better for this. Or, as you say, you are covered if one gets hurt and you know who to start.

You hit the nail on the head.  I saved TE's for last, had only $24, and wanted to draft 3 vs 2, so I simply chose guys I think can catch a few balls.  Also, I think Kerryon was a bit overpriced, but I am literally putting my money where my mouth is.  This team would be decent for weeks 14-16, but there would surely be weeks biting nails waiting for the cutoff scores.

Yep.  On my initial walkthrough I clicked everyone who seemed like a great value to me and ended up with a 35 man roster.  I’ll probably be close to 30 this year

@Joe Bryant Ummm... Why is the only TE listed for the Jets, Leggett?... First off he may not even make the team and they drafted Chris Herndon in the 4th round of this years draft... Not to say that means you need to have him on there but still there are tons of 4th round and later draft picks on the teams. I get leaving most of them off. Just surprised me to not have at least the rookie who is by all means going to win the starting job. Even for $2 can I write him in... haha

Seriously, though, my guess would be a combination of guys who legally can't win the money and "life".  For example, the commissioner of my main league is a subscriber.  He's knowledgeable and active, and spends lots of time doing his Commish duties, in addition to following all the normal FF developments. Traditionally, we've compared rosters on the league chatboard and followed each other's teams (along with 2 or 3 other guys there who are subscribers). Two years ago when I posted my roster, his response was "oh, crap, I was so busy, I forgot to get my entry in." Last year, I jokingly sent a reminder a few days before the deadline, more to rub in the fact that he had forgotten than to actually remind him.  His response? "Wow, thanks! I threw together a lineup when it first came out, then got wrapped up in other stuff and forgot to get back to it. I'll do that now." 

How did I miss this post? Oh yeah, same reason I've forgotten about the contest a couple of years! I promise to be better this year.

Gurley is a massive bargain.  Must-own imo. 

On my first pass, I went through picking guys that I thought were good values.  Ended up with Gurley, Cooks, and Goff.  Submitted and, of course, see the Week 12 bye which explains why.

Put together a decent squad on my first pass. Then saw that I have a severe bye week issue at a time in the contest that you can't have bye week issues. Back to the drawing board.

I can't tell if they were kidding or not. But the top RB is sort of the benchmark price. Last year David Johnson was $39. A few years ago Adrian Peterson was $42. So by that standard you could say Gurley at $37 is cheaper.  I wouldn't want my $37 RB on a bye in Week 12 though.

How is Gurley a bargain when he's the most expensive guy in the whole contest?

If you just look at Dodds' player projections, he has Gurley projected for about 40 more points in PPR on the year than Kamara, but there's only a $2 price difference between the two.  He also projects Gurley for 25 more points than Bell, but they are priced the same.

If you go in wanting a Top 5 back, given that they are all flatly-priced, Gurley looks like a pretty good value, until you realize the Week 12 bye.

Perhaps the staff discounted Gurley a few bucks for his late bye week.  I tend to think not however, because only the Rams and Chiefs are off, and Hunt's cost is equal to Fournette's, and Fournette has a higher ADP right now.

Right now it's in pre-season mode so 33 test entries are setup for testing/validation before the season starts.  Each NFL team is represented by a test entry and all the players in the contest from that team are assigned to that test entry.  So one test entry is made up of all PHI players, one test entry has all PIT players, etc.  So that accounts for 32 test entries and the last is all the players who are still an FA.

It looks like some of the scoring has changed from last year's contest so I'll use preseason to iron out any changes that I may have missed. If you see anything out of place let me know!

Since Dodds set the prices for this contest, I decided to use his own projections to see where HE thinks the value picks are.  As a sample, I chose running backs.  For example, let's start with the top RB - Todd Gurley.  His cost is $37, and Dodds projects him to score 346.9 fantasy points.  That gives a return on investment of 9.37 fantasy points per dollar.  Obviously, the higher this number, the better the value.  Based on this, let's look at Dodds top 20 projected scoring RB's...

1 – Gurley – 9.37

2 – Elliott – 9.3

3 – Bell – 8.75

4 – Johnson – 9.2

5 – Kamara – 8.82

6 – Gordon – 9.01

7 – Fournette – 9.24

8 – Hunt – 8.94

9 – Cook – 9.26

10 – Barkley – 8.83

11 – McCaffrey – 9.32

12 – Freeman – 9.41

13 – McKinnon – 9.44

14 – Howard – 7.82

15 – Mixon – 8.12

16 – Drake – 9.14

17 – Henry – 8.93

Sure, there are many scrub RB's that yield a way higher return on investment.  For example, Thomas Rawls is only $2, and Dodds projects him for 47.3 fantasy points, giving him a score of 23.65.  Problem is, barring an injury, he will never have his score counted as one of your starters in any week.  If you think Rawls will climb the depth chart and get some serious playing time, then he is for you.  If not, that $2 is better spent upgrading a stud, or adding an additional kicker or defense.

After Ajayi, there are many RB's that still hold value on their own, and do not need injury to produce.  One thing to keep in mind though - you are not gonna make it to week 14 by rostering a bunch of value picks, unless those guys are actually on the field racking up the points.  You're gonna have to pony up the dough.  In last year's contest, every one of the top 25 teams had at least a RB that cost $26, and their second RB averaged about $20.
