Fun stat from the Caps game, where the new defenseman has a goal, assist and fight... Gordie Howe had TWO Gordie Howe hat tricks in his career.

2nd career game - first goal, first assist, first fight

Caps 1 more fight and 1 more assist from 2 more Gordie Howe hat tricks, which give them a Gordie Howe Hat Trick hat trick

Just a total guess on my part,  but i think the Flyers pull the trigger on a trade by the weekend. Thursday night they play 3rd game in 4 nights so i think Friday is the day.

Season has gone from bad to worse and selling should begin.

Not sure if Simmonds is first to go but he's the biggest "prize". Maybe they start with a smaller deal first like Dale Wiese for a ham sammich or Raffl for a sammich and chips.

That's what I'm seeing on Twitter

@billmeltzer: Frost finishes WJC with 8 points (4 G, 4 A) in 5 GP-- tied for tourney lead with USA's Ryan Poehling --  and was +8 (tied with linemate Barrett Hayton for tourney best to date). Started Canada's only goal sequence tonight. But didn't see the ice in OT.

@billmeltzer: Frost leads OHL with seven shorthanded points this season. Hunter didn't view him as a PK guy. A no-brainer PP1 guy, but was used on PP2.

To summarize: Hunter is an idiot.

A lot of people were upset that Cale Makar didn’t go to the Olympics last year and turned down other Canadian National team opportunities this season. A big reason supposedly is because he felt he got buried in the World Juniors a year ago.

I thought him and Timmins were both excellent for Canada in that tournament. I didn't remember him getting limited ice time, but thought he led all dmen in scoring.

I think there is a general bias against Canadian kids playing in the NCAA when it comes to this tourney. It's starting to turn due to Cale last year - this year Ian Mitchell and Shane Bowers made it. But I think selection and usage get skewed towards Canadian Juniors.

Makar had a lot of points but didn't get much ice time if memory serves.  wasn't he scratched too?

crazy, but they won gold so guess it still worked out ok for them.

Canada getting knocked out really killed the tv schedule.

US/Russia starts at 1pm Pacific tomorrow while Finland/Switzerland gets the prime time slot at 5pm Pacific.
