2020 MLB Spring Training (2 Viewers)

Haven't ventured off the Statcast feed yet.

Did get a chuckle out of all their "Manaea doesn't give up hard hit balls" in the pregame only to see the first hitter he faced go yard.

During Olsen’s at-bat on the nerd cast they showed a graphic of the field where he hits the ball. All the Rays players were standing where he hits it 92% of the time. Cracked me up.

It's too bad this is the only post-season game on ESPN this year.  The announcing crew on the Statcast broadcast is excellent.

Beyond excellent. That slider conversation in regards to Castillo and the A’s hitter is one of the most insightful things I’ve ever heard on a game broadcast.

Counsell also showed up.

How do you figure? You had Jordan Lyles, Chase Anderson and Freddy Peralta in the pen as well as a few others.

Just not true
Totally true.  The Nats were in much better shape plus Huira and Braun we’re out so they would’ve been facing a B lineup. The Brewers 3 best pitchers had already pitched.  Nats still had Corbin available.  And lol at Chase Anderson.  You really typed Chase Anderson with a straight face?

And please don’t bring Counsell up. He’s the perfect manager for the Brewers and they wouldn’t have been in the playoffs without him.  No manager pushes the right button every time.

Although things improved a bit late in the year, the season-long struggles of Washington's bullpen could come back to bite them in October.

I don't think the Rays are a cakewalk by any means, but I'm glad they won last night.  The A's seem to have the Astros number of late.  And I know the Rays beat us 4 out of 7 times in the regular season, but I still like our chances better against them.  Plus, now we have an Orange Juice Series.

I hadn't really listened (I typically watch baseball without the sound on) to a game on ESPN all year.  The audio was noticeably better than any other broadcast I've seen as well.  The sound Garcia's bat made was jarring.  Is their audio always that great?

You could hear the damn seams on the ball spin.

Yes, I noticed the bat sound, too.  I liked that.

I also think that ARod is actually really good at broadcasting.  Hated him as a player.  Expected to hate him as a broadcaster.  But he's kind of like the Romo for baseball.  Very knowledgeable.

But if that really is ESPN's last baseball game, thank Allah.  I hate ESPN.  I hate having to listen to their commercials.  I hate having to see their so called 'talent.'

Astros obviously better but Rays can throw a ton of arms at ya. Runs going to be at a premium I imagine.

I caught the Astros against the Brewers on  Labor Day and they should have won that game easily, but they struggled at the plate. Pitching will decide the series imo.

Like I said, I don't think the Rays are a bad team at all.  I like them.  And I still think any team in the playoffs could easily win the whole thing.  So if the Rays beat the Astros this series, I wouldn't be shocked at all.  Good luck to your Rays, GB.  I hope they lose, but good luck just the same.

You too.

I think the difference is we have CFM now. :)

So Glasnow/Snell/Morton against the Astros. Tough series but they give you a chance.
Cash needs to take the reins off Glasnow and forget about pitch count. Let the boy go, he has been dominating since his return. You know Verlander is going to go far into the game. Trying for Monday tickets later today as a Rays Insider advance purchase time @ 1:00.

I doubt there is any kind of limit, other than the standard 100 pitches.

Most of that was the first series of the year. Also at Tropicana where the Astros have struggled. Home field advantage is nice to have.

Do it.

I paid dearly in 2014 to go to a Royals World Series game. Was worth every penny. You just never know when you'll get the chance again.

Lo and behold, they went back in 2015. Ended up going to an ALCS game that year. Well worth it. I'll never forget those games.

I went to the Rays WS in 08. Was just getting settled into my seats when Chase Utley deposited a home run 30 feet from me. *******.

I think Keuchel is overrated.  I see he's going today for the Braves.  He had that one great Cy Young year.  He's been pretty much declining since then.

I went to games 1,2 and 7 in the '97 WS when the Marlins beat the Indians. What I remember the most is singing "We are the Champions" along with 40,000 other drunks until the wee hours in Joe Robbie Stadium.

Is there any aspect in any sport that fans get more results oriented on than bullpen usage? Fans of all sports, in general, are embarrassingly results oriented about everything, but it almost never fails that a poor outcome with the bullpen is lambasted retrospectively en masse. WI sports talk radio has been flooded with fans calling for Counsell's head. Dude is a legit manager of the year candidate, and he decided to stick with one of the top closers in the league over a mediocre group of alternatives. It was an obvious call, except that it didn't work. So now it was obviously bad I guess.
