2020 MLB Spring Training (2 Viewers)

Should have kept Tommy Pham and dropped Dexter "The Bum" Fowler
Fowler has 2/$33M left on his 5 year contract.  He's a big sunk cost blocking some OF prospects.  He passes the naked eye look as an defensive OF but his advanced fielding metrics are poor.

That’s why I loved watching the Royals a few years ago. They were basically contact hitters who just kept putting the ball in play and seeing what happens.  Love watching that brand of baseball.
This is the baseball I grew up with.

You don’t see it anymore. No one bunts, no one steals bases, hit n run etc

Everyone tries to pull everything and pull it into the upper deck

Meh...

Why take out Tanaka?
Third time through the lineup. The DP erased the bone headed play although it also means Bregman doesn’t come up to start the bottom of the 8th. Worked out.

Also, don’t forget that it’s been 5 days since they last played so it’s OK to use the bullpen. Don’t want them getting too rusty.

Who would've thought Rob Deer would have had such a lasting impact on the game.  A true visionary.

Opponents hit 345 vs Tanaka 3rd time thru lineup plus bullpen super rested.
I realize 3rd time through the order. Sometimes you have to forget the analytics. When a guy faces the minimum through 6 looking as dominant as Tanaka was and it's a 5 run lead you leave him in.

Btw Tanaka is the anti Kershaw, beast in the playoffs.

Maybe saving Tanaka since he would pitch on 4 days rest in game 5 on Wednesday- right?

It’s worked out fine. I like the move because Tanaka’s fresh and you didn’t give the top of the lineup one more look at Tanaka. It also got the relievers a little work.

Most of the Yankee guys questioned the move on the postgame show
