2020 MLB Spring Training (1 Viewer)

I realized after I wrote that Cole would be fine for game 3 of the LCS. Still seems odd to throw them both on short rest. Verlander is another story but doesn’t it often affect pitchers?
Guys go on short rest in the playoffs all the time.  At most, they'll be going short rest for a month.  They have the whole offseason to rest up.  If you lose here, it's over.  You have to play to win.  That's why you see starters coming out of the pen and you see closers going 2 to 3 innings sometimes.  You do what you have to to advance and win.

You said it seemed desperate.  Everyone should think that.  No one is safe.  In the LDS series, there have been a bunch of teams that have won the first two games only to loss than last three.  It's not that odd.  Win and advance.  If you're not doing everything in your power to do that, something's wrong.

So Verlander has never (technically) pitched on short notice.  But when asked if the Astros thought about going with the rook for Game 4, Hinch said that he asked Verlander how he felt and JV said he wanted to pitch Game 4.  So Hinch said that was that.  End of discussion.  I'm guessing Verlander probably only goes 5 innings and the rook will be the bridge.

Going with Verlander on short rest is the absolute right call. Especially since if they win they can still start Cole in G1 and Verlander in G2 of ALCS.

The Yankees are praying the Tampa can win this tonight I would say.

Avoid Cole and JV in potential game 1&2

Of course. Verlander would still pitch G2 though. Greinke would go G1 and hes no slouch.

Weird that one news outlet quoted AJ HInch as saying he asked Verlander and JV wanted to pitch.  But just read an article that quoted JV as saying he told Hinch he felt good but it came down to Hinch's decision.  Not a huge deal or anything, but weird that there's conflicting reports.

@Capella hey, Cappy did you see the guy answer the trivia question on the big screen around the 7th inning? JOSE LOBATON!

That was me. I won a Glasnow autographed baseball in cube. The girl picked me because she liked my homemade Rays hat!

Great game, the Trop was rocking. 2 to go.

I'm going to need a picture or a real good explanation of this.

No ####? I remember seeing it but didn’t actually pay attention. Very cool!!

The question was - which Ray hit the walk off homer to beat the Red Sox in 2013? It was multiple choice with the choices, Lobo, Price, Longo or Joyce. I remembered Lobo. The funny thing was the girl asking questions was asking people the same question all around me, I was on the end of the aisle seat. Then when she finally asked me I told her I knew it was Lobo, what do I win? She just laughed and went away. Then an inning or two later I noticed the camera girl set up across from me before the inning ended. Suddenly the question girl showed back up with some cheerleader girls and she asked me the same question again with the camera rolling. The rest of the night people were fist bumping me, "it's the trivia guy." What a hoot!

Choi walked again. Verlander’s done after this inning.

ETA: I was wrong, but I’m betting he wishes he was done

Mike Tomlin starting the game on the mound with the all terrible towels has made it tough but hope the Astros can overcome it and win this for Steve Irwin.

Well this has been about as good of a start as you could hope for but 3-0 is hardly some insurmountable lead.
