I  agree and also since that number is down it means the cutoff number will also be down  (because those stud loaded teams that havent advanced will also drive the cutline down)

I don't remember people complaining about the old rules, but I do like the new rules better for sure. The old way there was no excitement to see the results for several weeks. Is it really THAT satisfying seeing that you survived.... when there was no cut line? Or a very low one for that matter.

After the Kelce bye week I may be whistling a different toon, however. I already think I made a big mistake spending $23 on just TWO QB's. This is one of the few years I really liked several of the cheap QBs. Should have gotten at least three QBs for that amount in a covid variant season. A lot of coaches already missing games, but it's odd that so few players are missing games. Certainly hoping that doesn't change with only two QBs.

 
Odd feeling being a survivor after 2 weeks is quite the accomplishment. Cut changes having a huge impact. Bye minefield is going to get crazy. Later is better now?

Wonder if things will switch back 2022 so we keep more people engaged on the forum. Brutal losing so many so soon. 

 
On to week 3 with 194 points.

My RBs suck (Nick Chubb, James Robinson, Damien Harris, Gus Edwards, Sony Michel, Carlos Hyde, Rhamondre Stevenson) but my WR corps is killing it so far (Calvin Ridley, Cooper Kupp, Jaylen Waddle, Marvin Jones, Antonio Brown, Bryan Edwards). Glad I picked Tom Brady, but that money I wasted on Roethlisberger would have helped me elsewhere.

There was a little bit of complaining, but most of it came from the post season contest.  I do think a season long contest that eliminates 45% of the entires in weeks 1 and 2 isn't the best route to cater to you customer base.

I'm still alive, but I concur.  There should be a happy medium somewhere between nobody being cut weeks 1 and 2, and 45% out after two weeks.  Maybe a sliding percentage cut each week.  Something like:

Weeks 1-3:  15%

Weeks 4-6:  20%

Weeks 7-9:  25%

Week 10-12:  30%

Week 13:  35%

Week 14:  40%

I think just a straight 10% of the initial starting field to be cut through weeks 5-6 or so rather than a percentage of what is left would likely work fine to start with?

My first reaction was to reply with something like "wow, that's harsh".  Upon further reflection, I know I get invested in the contest and would be chapped with an early exit.  Having said that, it might be interesting to change the rules year after year for something new, but on the other hand the number of entries is down and I think Joe has indicated the ROI for the contest is probably not where it needs to be, so my attitude is enjoy it while it lasts (freely admitting that I might be complaining if the turk had already visited me).

Apologies if that came off as harsh.  I'm not upset I picked a bad team and got the boot.  I meant that from a business perspective I would want customers having fun competing more weeks, posting on my messegeboard about the contest, and clicking more results and quarrier links on my website.

I thought I was toast after the games Sunday afternoon. For some reason I didn't think Marquis Brown was playing anyway he saved my bacon made the cut by a little over a point.

Ya, I get your point.  I vaguely recall, years and years ago, one of the features of the contest was awarding a prize for high score in week 4, week 8, week 12 (or some such).  More severe cutlines would definitely be negatively reacted to if that structure was still in place (losing out on the opportunity to win prizes even for squads not "finals worthy").  But with the current structure, I'm not sure how much of a tangible benefit there is in keeping low performing squads around if they are just going to end up getting the boot in week 9 or week 12 (is it more painful to be booted early or late?....I've experienced both and don't have a strong opinion :) ).  Full disclosure: I'm not bright enough to understand the true value of forum posts and link clicks....but your observation may make Joe et.al. rethink the current rules experiment.  :shrug:

 
I keep getting "Page not found" when clicking the Subscriber Results link under Week 3 page. Is there another way to navigate to it?

 
Team in 4120 th place scored 161points this week. So probably have to have at least that for week 3.

Not a particular fan of increasing the cut %s as the season progresses, but I get that you don't want to eliminate folks too early.

Another way to prolong the fun while still whittling down would be strike-based elimination... if you're in the bottom-half of alive entries in any given week, you get a strike.  3 strikes and you're eliminated.  Nobody can be eliminated until week 3, and most non-terribly-constructed teams probably at least survive until bye weeks start.  To get to the same % of teams surviving to the playoffs as current system I believe it would probably be more like bottom-45% each week get a strike.

Could make it viable strategy to have more guys with a shared bye week, you're basically just accepting a strike for that week.

I like your outside the box thinking, but all of your ideas make managing this free contest more time consuming for FBGs so for that reason alone I don't think any of them would be adopted.

Changing the weekly cut  to 10% or 15% might be better that 25% for the reasons mentioned by @BassNBrew but I don't hate the 25%.

@SeniorVBDStudent - I've never made the finals and a couple years back I got cut in week 13 (or whichever is the last week before the finals)... so based on that experience it's much more painful to be cut late.

Fair point re: increased complexity of running the contest, how's this for maintaining simplicity then, while eliminating "early exits" and keeping roughly the same "playoff rate" as current system:

Weeks 1-4 - Nobody eliminated

Week 5 - Bottom 1/3 (33.3%) eliminated (based on aggregate scores for weeks 1-5)

Weeks 6-14 - Bottom 33.3% eliminated (based on weekly scores)

Joe said the player Query should be back mid October as they continue to work on the site so it's on the horizon. 

Sadly the live scoring was done by fellow posters privately in the past and not by FBG. So unless someone with the knowhow/time has to run that we just have to do things manually on our own.

IIRC, a second complicator for live scoring, in addition to lack of time available for Iggy and Steeler, is that there are not really any viable free live data sources to scrape from as all sources have become paid services.  Capitalists ruining all the fun.

 
No R.Stevenson, No Higgins, this week for me on top of Jeudy. Plus Big Ben managaing that Pec issue.....S.Michel gets the start in LA but facing the Bucs Run D......Yea may be a long day today...where is the Whiskey....😔

 
Sitting at 132.4 with Corey Davis -8.8, Blake Jarwin -5.3m Sony Michel -8.8, Den/GB D -8.  Fairly nervous.   :oldunsure:

153.70 with Scantling and Cobb (-14.10). Last week the score where the cut line would be this week was 161 and some change. I hope it's about 10 points lower this week.

 
173 and done (+ Cowboys defense - 9).

Rough week with Chubb, Mixon, D Harris and Michel each scoring less than 10 points.  Callaway's score counted :bag:

Brady, Kelce, and McManus hopefully did enough.  Lots of middling WR scores, only decently big J. Meyers.  Robinson only RB to do anything but everyone has him.

Cowboys Def (anything above 8 counts)

Im hoping much of the lower scoring in FF this week saves my hide but I'm not incredibly confident.
