2021 Las Vegas Raiders - PLAYOFFS!!!! (1 Viewer)

KJ Wright signed!!!

https://www.silverandblackpride.com/2021/9/2/22654552/raiders-kj-wright-sign-linebacker

Between Wright, Perryman, Kwiat and Littleton (+Morrow/White whenever they return),

Could the Raiders actually field a legit NFL LB corps this year?!? Or even more astounding, and actual NFL defense?!?

---

If so, bump Jacobs (and Drake) some and downgrade Carr and the passing game - I envision lots of game mgr weeks this season from DC if the defense hangs tough and the running game is cooking.

Nice!!

now get an OL and they’re looking pretty good!
Chad, do not drink anything before reading this.

I think the starting OL is fine and only needs a little depth.  Most teams struggle when staters on the OL are out for any length of time and the Raiders would be no different.   If the injury bug bites hard, there is little that can be done.  We have to hope the injury gods smile on our Raiders this season.

Of course!  My desire for OL is merely based on need. it’s a weakness. IMHO

They have 8 OL. They also have 3 QBs. Perhaps peterman could go and a decent 1M rotational OL could take his spot on the roster.

as always, wtf do I know?

The Las Vegas Raiders put running back Jalen Richard, linebacker Nick Morrow, defensive back Keisean Nixon and defensive back Javin White on IR.

Carrier and Wright took two of these spots. Two remain, but not much cap space left after Wright signing.

Like my buddy back in college. Made me laugh and I was trying not to spew the Mt Dew all over his dash board. He started yelling... Spew! Spew! Spew! The I could see him realize he was in his truck and that wasn't a good idea and he just stopped... which made me laugh more and a little spew came out

The Raiders replaced the four injured players with the return of tight end Derek Carrier and safety Dallin Leavitt (who were both cut Tuesday) and the signing of backup tackle Jermaine Eluemunor. He started eight games for New England at right tackle last season. He has 11 NFL starts in four seasons and he is decent backup protection. They are also signing former Seattle linebacker K.J. Wright to fill the 53-man roster.

Eluemunor was signed by the Dolphins this offseason (1 yr / $1.13 MM, $100k guaranteed) and then cut by them a couple weeks ago. He then signed with the Jags and then was cut again when they pared down to 53 this week.

Doesn't exactly inspire, but at least his name doesn't rhyme with Bones-Sith.

Las Vegas Raiders' Derek Carr letting young WRs group 'go make plays'

HENDERSON, Nev. -- Looking for a scouting report on the Las Vegas Raiders' kinda, sorta revamped wide receivers corps?

Look no further than a member of said unit, as second-year wideout Bryan Edwards talked about the "diversity" of his group.

"We have me," said the 6-foot-3, 212-pound Edwards, a third-round draft pick out of South Carolina in 2020, "obviously a big-body outside receiver.

"[Henry] Ruggs, extremely fast, can take the top off any defense, can make plays underneath, can do it all.

"Hunter [Renfrow], Third and Renfrow, Swiss Army Knife. Tough as nails.

"And we've got Zay Jones, who can play any position. We've got a lot of guys -- Willie Snead ... I feel like we have a very dynamic room."

One veteran who was supposed to be the speed demon opposite Ruggs was released on Tuesday, though, as John "Smoke" Brown was a cut-down day casualty. On the initial 53-man roster (which had 52 players on it, as Las Vegas waits to announce its trade acquisition of linebacker Denzel Perryman), the Raiders went with five receivers.

Was it really only three years ago when Jordy Nelson and Martavis Bryant were going to be quarterback Derek Carr's downfield targets, just two summers ago when Antonio Brown and Tyrell Williams were set to revolutionize the Raiders' passing game before Brown blew the whole thing up on his way out of town in the preseason?

With a receivers room centered around Ruggs -- the No. 12 overall pick last season who had 26 catches for 452 yards and two touchdowns in 13 games -- Edwards and Renfrow, a fifth-rounder in 2019, Las Vegas has a young, skilled and hungry, though relatively unproven, group. It also has to replicate the production lost by Nelson Agholor's departure in free agency after he had career highs in receiving yards (896), average yards per catch (18.7) and TDs (eight) in his lone year with the Raiders.

So who steps up?

The way Ruggs sees it, he has to become the "go-to guy" for the Raiders and insists he's more than physically able to withstand the grind after putting on 13 pounds of muscle this offseason without losing any of his 4.2-second-in-the-40 speed.

"Camaraderie is there, unlike last year," he said. "It's a man's game now. I'm not the biggest guy, but I have to get to where I can compete with grown men now."

Henry Ruggs III had 26 receptions during his rookie season but will be asked to provide a much more consistent presence in 2021. Steve Marcus/Getty Images

And therein lies the rub.

Not so long ago, Carr had the likes of Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree to throw to downfield. Then things went sideways, the WR room was rebuilt and coach Jon Gruden's tight end- and running back-friendly offense showed up in 2018.

Consider: in 2016, with Crabtree (89 catches) and Cooper (83 catches) leading the way, 63.3% of Carr's completions were to wide receivers. The numbers under Gruden: 48.0% in 2018, 40.2% in 2019 and 45.1% last season.

Of course, the emergence of Darren Waller as a Pro Bowl tight end, with a combined 197 catches the past two seasons, has had an effect on those figures, but Carr insists a trust has been brokered between himself and these young wideouts.

After all, Renfrow put on a show at a joint practice with the Los Angeles Rams recently: "We're not going against the Citadel or Furman ... this was game day for us," Renfrow said. "That's the beauty of it -- if I can beat Jalen Ramsey, then I can beat anybody in the NFL. Because he's one of the best."

And Edwards, who was limited to 11 catches in 12 games as a rookie, said his ankle is fine now.

"Health is wealth, man," said Edwards, who was compared to Terrell Owens by Gruden, and to a young Davante Adams by Carr.

"I have a group of wideouts that I trust, that when I drop back, I'm going to throw the ball up to them," Carr said. "And I told them, 'It's up to you if you want to make SportsCenter or not. I'm going to throw it to you because you guys have the talent and the ability to go make these plays.'"

Paging Ruggs, then.

"There was one day I rolled out and totally just chucked one up to Henry, one-on-one, and this man jumps about four feet off the ground and snatches it, lands, gets up and runs," Carr said. "I said, 'You keep doing that in practice, I promise you I'll throw that in a game. But if we don't see it in practice, I can't throw it in a game. I can't do it. I can't put our team at risk for a turnover or a bad play.'

"But as long as they are making plays, or when I make a bad throw, they are knocking it down to go to second-and-10. Man, we can keep doing that ... we still need more work, obviously, but these young guys are getting a chance to gain trust with me.

"In the team drills, there was a couple times the other day I was just like, 'You know what, I'm going to give a couple guys a chance and watch them go make plays.' And when they do, you file it away and you're like, 'OK, when I get that look, I know he'll go do it for me.'"

Now that's a scouting report ... as positive and localized as possible. Just make sure to check back in around Week 9.

####. I’m psyched!!! Let’s get this party started!

Whoa now let's slow that roll a minute.
GD it!!!  think of poor Chad's heart!!*  it's looking better.

they will have 2 dudes, with less than 2 weeks practice.  they also have 2 dudes that have never played LB.  like ever.  and 2 dudes on IR, that were supposed to contribute a lot.

it's a step in the right direction.

aa, wtfdik

*it's another joke

This thread is one of my faves.  You folks rule.  Expect nothing less from a bunch of Raiders fans.
it gets better when games are actually being played because then all the refs hate us, the league hates us, and the color of our uniforms costs us games stuff starts back up again....it's so awesome...can't wait....

Raiders CB Nate Hobbs is the highest-graded rookie cornerback according to Pro Football Focus

In the pre-season, Hobbs played 57 snaps, 30 in the slot and 27 out wide and earned a 90.7 overall grade

Que @DA RAIDERS to come poop on it.

The Raiders are signing Peyton Barber off the WFT practice squad.

Odd move, but I guess there is a hole to fill with Richard going to the IR.

@Lehigh98  you still going to vegas 9/13?  i'm flying in 9/12, staying at the MGM.  there will be 4 of us.  love to tailgate with you.

have you been looking at ticket prices?  they are steadily coming down. there are plenty of singles available.  and PSL holders got to buy the anti vaxxers, returned seats yesterday.  but TM sold them as singles. :lmao:   so singles will be out there for sure.

if you want any help with tickets,  let me know .  i've been put in charge by our group, to find the tickets.  so i know too much.

Planning on going to the Dolphin game. Let me know what you are seeing and any tips. I have not yet bought.

I know folks check in here to get a pulse on what is really happening inside the confusing media diatribe (good and bad) about the Raiders.  My only advice to anyone taking a temperature on fantasy football potential is get Josh Jacobs on your roster.  The price is an absolute steal.

Missed him by 2 picks and was bummed.

I love his value this year. I thought he was a little bit overdrafted last year.

I get the concerns about the OL being worse. I do not get the fears of Kenyan Drake. Drake wasn't great in AZ, and Jacobs didn't catch may balls regardless, plus Gruden doesn't really do the game script thing much from what I've seen. Down a couple scores in the 3rd quarter, Gru just keeps on running Jacobs up the gut, burning clock like he has 17 time-outs. My Raider fan friends get incensed by that seeming lack of urgency, but it bodes well for Jacobs.

Jacobs is going to do his thing, get 1000+ yards and probably 8-12 TDs, with a handful of receptions. I can't imagine the Raiders using  anyone else at the stripe, and they should be in a lot of games.  I agree he's a solid value.

There are a hand full of upper deck tickets left for the opener, at standard prices. Maybe some anti-vaxxers returned theirs, I don't know. just snagged a ticket. They are nose bleed sections but if you just want to be in the building here's your chance.

Raiders Again Clear Significant Cap Room, Could Another Roster Move Be In The Works?

 RAIDERSBEAT.COM

On Thursday morning, it was announced that the Raiders converted just over $2.8 million of Nick Kwiatkoski’s base salary to signing bonus, creating $2.3 million in cap space. Soon after that it was reported that the team intends to sign free agent linebacker K.J. Wright.

A day later the Raiders are back at it again.

An ESPN report on Friday indicated that the Raiders converted $12 million of Yannick Ngakoue’s salary to signing bonus, which will create another $8 million in salary cap space.

The question now is whether or not the Raiders have another big move in the works.

The terms of Wright’s deal have not yet been reported so there’s no way to know how much cap room the Raiders are currently working with. OverTheCap shows the Raiders more than $7 million over the cap as of Friday morning (and again, that’s not counting Wright’s new deal). If that number is accurate, it’s possible that Ngakoue’s restructure is simply a maneuver to get the team back under the salary cap.

ESPN’s Field Yates is reporting that the Raiders added their latest cap space for the purpose of “in-season roster resources” but it will be interesting to see how much room they have now.

It could also turn out that they paid a little more for Wright than expected

@DA RAIDERS  Thanks for checking in, I've been posting in the Vegas thread too.  I'm now flying in on Saturday so I can get in a full football Sunday out there.  I realized that no matter how early I tried to get out there on Sunday, I was going to miss the 1:00 (10:00) games.  Staying at the Hilton at Resorts World during the conference (Sun-Tues nights) since its close and I got a good rate with no resort fees but staying at Vdara Saturday night.  There was a show rate much cheaper on Sat nights than my Hilton rate.

Still interested it going to the game Monday night but haven't been keeping an eye on tickets.  I figured best option would be to wait until (past) the last minute when people panic and drop prices instead of eating the tickets.  You guys planning on tailgating in the lot or somewhere on the strip or nearby?

I'm definitely going to check out Circa at some point and was thinking about hitting the Circa Stadium Swim for the 1:00 (10:00) games.  Unfortunately the hotel was all booked up so have to pay to get in as a guest, I think its like $50 and that only gets you entry.  @Drunken Cowboy will also be in town for FFPC and he said he's staying at Planet Hollywood and already reserved a table over there for the games but not sure what games / times that covers.  They're flying out Sunday night so won't be around for MNF though.

i'm flying in sunday.  landing around 2:30  my buddy gets in around 3;30.  i haven't been to vegas in 15+ years.  no clue where to go anymore.  the plan is to not go too crazy sunday, knowing what's coming on monday night. :banned:   i'm following a similar plan with tickets.  i'm willing to wait.  and the sellers are already getting nervous.  had a guy drop his club seats $500 bucks off his asking price, in 60 seconds.  row 7.  i told him, i'm good for now.

we're at the MGM

My fiancée and I are at PH. I got a table for 4 for around $200. That comes with some free drinks. It isn't really a good deal. We are staying there and leaving Sunday night, so I wanted to stay close. MGM properties seem to have way better deals on tables. There prices include credit towards food and drinks. I really don't need free drinks. I will have more drinks than even I can drink from bets.

:lmao:   i feel you on the drinks.  i need to be fully functional for MNF.  does your table include SNF?  thats the only game i'll be there for it's entirety.

I am staying at the Vdara until Sunday. I was thinking of getting a hotel closer to the stadium/airport for Sunday night. I was thinking Excalibur. Cheaper than Vdara and I was thinking more convenient? Is my thinking good or bad on this? I know the stadium is on the other side of the freeway.

Are you in Vegas now?

No, meant for the Dolphin game on the 26th. Flying in that Thursday and there for a mortgage broker convention. Then plan on going to the Dolphin game and leave Monday.
I don’t know #### from shine-ola. Haven’t been to Vegas in 15+ years.   But I’d just stay at the Vdara, if the price isn’t that big of a difference. The proximity won’t really matter. I’ll scout it out for you next week.

I chose the MGM, because of the ridiculous deal.  Flight and room for $200.

Vdara is a little on the pricey side. Excalibur was showing much lower cost.

Excalibur is a dump. I'm at the BYU game right now. This place is loud AF.
Agreed... Avoid Excalibur at all costs! I was actually thinking about staying off the strip. Everything is cheaper on Fremont. And if you like your beer, there's good craft beer nearby and less people. I haven't done a lot of research yet, but my brother in law stayed at the Golden Nugget and was happy with his experience there.
