Ugh. Forgot about this.  So we either sink deeper into the depression of a lost season, or we rise from the ashes with a team motivated to prove everyone wrong. 
My 44 years of fandom roots for the latter but expects the former.

I don't know. Denver seems way over hyped to me. (At least as overhyped as a team losing the Steelers can be). This could be a nice get right game.

Agreed. Seems like the perfect interim guy. Knows he's likely not going to be the HC so he holds things together and team can do a proper search.

I'd have to this will be one of the top if not the top HC job out there this year.

NFL Royalty franchise, Solid young QB, new Stadium, super hyped city, solid young player core.

This team is going to be rattled for at least a few weeks.  Their world was just up ended.  Pretty sure most conversations at the LVR practice facility this week will not be on the Broncos.  

Carr is already skittish and I expect him to struggle a lot without Grudens guidance.   Gruden was terrible at drafting and as a HC but he helped Carr a ton.   I expect the Broncos to win big.   The season is over for the Raiders.   It was already going the typical downward spiral as it does most seasons for the Raiders.   This just sped up the process.  

It may not sound like it but Im really happy as a Raider fan.  I have many posts on record here where I was looking forward to Grudens exit.  I thought that day was 2-3 years away so this has been a great week!   There are a lot of potentially great young coaches out there and things will start getting better in less than 6 months.  

 
I think they bounce back and win this week. The albatross that was hanging on their backs is lifted. The locker room knew a lot more than we did the past week. Watching them play against Chicago I think the whole affair had a major impact on their play. Playing on the road helps imop. Denver's D is better than average but I agree with Joe,they're over hyped. I think they put all the Gruden crap in the rear view mirror and take it out on the Broncos this week.

i know nothing about the new coach.  i would have and probably still do file him under "gruden toadie"   i have zero insight to him.

as far as the team, i think they may rally around this and look to prove something.  

the D is a tight unit. barring more injuries i expect them to keep giving it everything they have and play pretty well.  it's the offense that will have to come to play.  

the offense will have to figure things out, and figure them out quickly.  just how much did gruden control there?  having carr will help.  he has called plays all the way back to college.  hopefully, they open it up more(OL allowing) and stop running it up the gut 15 times a game.

i've hated the gruden hire since day 1.  i'm glad he's gone.  i hate that this is the way it went down, but he's not a good HC imho.  i think the team will be better off without him.

 
Former Raider Erik Harris (whom I respect a ton, so take my opinion as you will) was quick to call out Bisacchia as the guy to get the call.  Actually before the news broke that he would be the interim HC.   According to Harris, Bisacchia is one of the most respected coaches in the building.   Has interviewed for HC spots in the past, and if I remember correctly took coordinator roles instead.  

Keyshawn Johnson this morning commented on how the Raiders will respond, and his view was that players play for the guys next to them far more than the guy coaching them.   

The best case for this all may just be that the resignation happened quickly and decisively.  Internally they can talk about it, and move on to their next opponent.   As fans we hear all the time about the NFL and the next man up mentality that is needed.  This situation is exactly that.  They are professionals and need to get focused.

My concern is with Carr and the game plan.  I hope that Olson and Carr can quickly find a balance and rhythm to the games.  I expect the players and staff to come out and make a statement win next week to help the story line move away from this ugliness.

Unfortunately there is just as good of a chance Mark Davis has Art Shell, Mike Shanahan and Dan Reeves Ghost on speed dial.

A lot of people seem to like him but he has been a STC his entire NFL career.

This drama can either draw the team, which seems to be a very close group of guys, closer together and they circle the wagons and it drives them or it could unravel them. I honestly do not know which way it breaks but I don't think the key is Basaccia, I think the key is the leaders in the locker room. Carr is the leader of that lock room, it is up to him to rally the entire team to not go down the rabbit hole of distractions and instead focus on the team. 

If some on this board are right, Gruden didn't have the locker room anyways... if so, then it should be easy for them or even a positive for them to move forward. I think they team was behind Gruden and I think a lot of players will be hurting over this and it will be a personal battle to prep for the game this weekend.

For me I didn't like the Gruden hire initially because he immediately populated the coaching staff with "been-there-done-that" guys like Tom Cable, Paul Guenther & Greg Olsen etc. Gruden seemed to truly despise the very idea of anyone having a different opinion from his.  So he filled his staff with the most non-threatening voices he could find which, unfortunately means they were also the least innovative. It was a group filled with guys who likely knew they would take the hit for any team failures.  Frankly I am surprised Guenther was the only one so far.

Gruden can work magic with a QB but that's really the extent of his ability.

He didn't build the Raider teams of the late 90s but he got the most out of Rich Gannon.  He didn't build the 2002 Buccaneers, but he coached Brad Johnson into a Super Bowl winning QB. Then he systematically alienated any players who dared to question him and subsequently had mediocre draft followed by mediocre draft until Tampa Bay was a mediocre team.

I was hopeful when the Raiders hired him because fans are hopeful, that's why we're fans but I thought it was a mistake done more to energize the old Oakland fan base and generate a new fan base in Las Vegas than put a good competitive produce on the field.

Denver is a paper dragon. When they started hot people were giving them a lot of props (more than us really) They beat the Giants, Jaguars and Jets to start. Three teams vying for the 1st overall pick in the next years draft and have a combined 2 wins out of the three of them 5 games into the season. They lost to the Ravens and Steelers which are two teams we beat. 

If not for all of this, I would be confident in a win (though starting to worry we are just the same ole' Raiders from years past that teased a good playoff team only to fold). 

 
I was always on the fence with the Gruden hire. As a fan staring at a 10 year contract, I had nothing to do but root for the guy and hope he can turn the franchise around, I was stuck with him... so I thought.

Now looking back, there were some positives:

Carr's growth and performance in '20 and starting '21.

Kolton Miller, Maxx Crosby, Jacobs and Mullen picks. 

A playoff caliber offense, that can beat any team at any time. Which leads me too why Gruden's tenure was a failure. 

This team never had an identity under his leadership. They can beat the Chiefs one week and get blown out by the Falcons the next. How can fans buy in, when your on that rollercoaster? Then and in the horrible defenses and highly questionable draft picks and losing records, you've got failure. 

The worst part is, one of the positives of this organization was its diversity. Davis was a pioneer in this area and that should never be lost just because his idiot son hired an egomaniac and apparent racist like Gruden.

The best thing about tapping him is that is leaves in place the OC and DC. The other two coaches with NFL HC experience, one I think does not to be anything more than a dline coach and I don't think the other will ever get a HC shot again because of his past. 

 
Optics wise, if there was a way to bet money on it I would, that the next HC will be Black. I think Eric Bieniemy will be the first call and first offer. (And Bieniemy deserves a shot) but if not Bieniemy, it will be someone else to offset this embarrassment for the franchise.

I hear ya, it will be interesting to see what happens with Carr and Olson. If they can keep the offense at a top 10 level (Oline problems permitting), maybe go defensive hire, but that means either Bradley gets the job or he's out after one year. I'd like see who's out there from the Belichick tree or if Tomlin has an up and comer defensive minded coach?

Was Olson an interim HC somewhere? He's never been hired to be a HC that I am aware of.

I'd be good with Bieniemy. 

That guy knows how to get the utmost out of his offensive players  (except for a viable WR2 I guess).

 
The Mike Florio take on the events that led to the, appropriate, resignation of Gruden is quite good.

I do not feel as good about Bieniemy as a HC hire as some others. I suspect Reid's system and the talent have propped Bieniemy up. I also wonder why he has been passed as a hire by so many other teams. I do not think he is the dynamic leader the position requires. 

Other names that I have heard are Kellen Moore, Joe Brady and Brian Daboll.

There is speculation that the NFL office has much more dirt on Gruden and has threatening to leak it to the media to pressure Tommy Boy to fire Gruden. Nothing like a good old conspiracy to stir up the Raider fans.

This is just the tip of the iceberg. I imagine more names will be coming out in the future. Unless Tommy Boy himself leaked the emails so he could fire Gruden and get out from under that dumb contract.

The NFL wanted him out.  When Mark didn't suspend him for Sunday they leaked more emails yesterday.

Not sure who I do want, but it's not Bienemy.  Not really fair to Bienemy, but I look at the job Nagy has done with the Bears and don't want someone from Andy's tree.

 
Shaw would be a disaster of a hire.  He is the polar opposite of the forward-thinking Staley/Stifanski hire you guys should want.

I think the chances of a minority getting the hire is sky high. 

The only caveat to that is if Biasaccia keeps this thing on the rails and we go back to winning and make playoffs. He could retain the promotion keeping the staff largely intact. 

If we don't make the playoffs, he will not get the chance and if so we will look to hire a minority for HC. I just think the PR pressure will be too much and I don't think Davis has the same kind of "I'll do what I think is best and screw whatever everyone else thinks" as Al did. That was commitment to finding the best person regardless of any demographic info that lead to many of the league's "first" hires. In this instance, it may not exactly be the best person period but the best of the check boxes. 

I think Bienemy is qualified but it is curious that he has been passed up. It would be interesting as the Raider offense is basically built to be similar to the Chefs. I am not excited about another reboot though. 

Second option I think would be Byron Leftwich. 

 
By no means do I defend anything Gruden said, but if he's the only person to take the fall for anything out of those 650,000 emails, then something is definitely up. More heads should roll very soon...

Money to spend? According to the great people of Spotrac, the Raiders are projected to have the eleventh-most cap space in the NFL next offseason. This is a far cry from where the Raiders currently sit as they have -$273,721 in cap space. In 2022, that number will be just over $55 million.

Yeah, the NFL already ended the 10 month investigation of Washington in July by hitting them with a $10M fine and immediately sealing everything up tight.

How bad must the rest of the stuff in there be that they fined Washington that much money and felt comfortable enough to leak Gruden’s emails but won’t release the rest of the stuff? Gotta bet the stuff in there makes Snyder look awful.
