2022-23 NBA Thread: “you’ll never let me down like the Heat did”, Miami fan says to giant pile of cocaine (1 Viewer)

look, i understand some of you hate Lebron but please, for the love of everything, stop with the horrible "Le"whatever nicknames.

they're not funny. not at all. they're just awful.

go ahead and drum up some funny nicknames at least. mock him all you want. but at least be funny about it.

enough "Leflop", "LeGM", etc.

be funny.
This was absolutely me a decade or so ago, but I think it's fair to say a large % of us moved on. Those that remain represent a small (but loud) subset of the market. Fan bias aside my general dislike of him is the era he brought with him - coalescing to build super teams with short shelf lives then once all assets have been used jump ship for the next one. I have no idea if that represents a majority of those that don't like him, but I know I'm not alone.

Granted my various circles represent a percentage point of a percentage point of a percentage point etc. of 1% of sports fans, but this message is consistent in each of them - rooting for the Cavs over the last year has been more fun than any of those iterations between 2014 and 2018.

The Brooklyn Nets have released Kyrie Irving, sources tell ESPN.
Looks like a fake twitter

he's verified by Twitter blue check!

The Los Angeles Lakers are trading Russell Westbrook and two first-round picks to the Charlotte Hornets for Gordon Hayward, Mason Plumlee and P.J. Washington, sources tell ESPN.
Hornets should do this deal for real though.

I don't understand why you have to be a fan of a player because he is good. Lebron is one of the two best players in history, he is a charitable with all the money he makes and doesn't seem to be a bad guy off the court.

Guess what? I don't like him or root for him. In my opinion he is kind of annoying on the court and I would probably overlook it if he ever played for my team, or a team I root for since the Pistons have sucked for the better part of 2 decades, but he never has. So I hope his career ends like it started. With him playing really great, but losing a lot of basketball games and missing the playoffs.

Fight me!

Sorry for stealing your line @Frostillicus

everyone doesn't have to like the guy. nobody is saying that.

i don't think i said "you have to like the guy".

my point is how much time and energy people put in to sweating every. tiny. little. thing the guy does and the amount of complaining there is about it.

people "hate" him because he's on tv a lot. people "hate" him because he dribbles different than Jordan. people "hate" him for playing in Miami and LA. people saying he's not even good because he went 9 - 25 one night. discounting his greatness because his team... in 2022.... is not good.

there's enough coverage of the Lakers and Lebron on every single sports media outlet. even some non-sports outlets. it's whipped some of you people in to a bizarre froth where the guy occupies like 40% of your daily thought. it leaks out like Bill Simmons inability to not reference the Celtics when talking NBA. he can't help it. some of you can't help but bring Lebron in to every. single. NBA discussion.

I am not going to go back and find it, and if I am wrong I apologize, but I believe this started because someone said how can you not be a LeBron fan like 10ish pages ago and we have had this slap fight about him since then. It is okay not to be a fan of someone even if they are awesome and a good person.

DeAaron Fox has been unbelievable this year. I had started giving up on the hope that he could make the jump to stardom, but he’s done it so far this year.

I haven't been able to keep up with the thread (yay for newborns!), but man this is a fun NBA season. I pretty much just watch Warrior games now, but every single team has improved it feels like....expect for the Lakers. During the Warriors eastern conference road trip, each team they lost to had some nice young pieces to look forward to. It'll be funny once team start turning on tank mode.

Each team has improved……except the Lakers, Warriors (😡😡😡😡) and Wolves.

Good to see the Warriors get a legit win last night against a tough team. Despite some absurd ticky tack calls.

Yep. Not entirely sure what is going on but there's a lot of finger pointing right now. Literally, due to players in the wrong place. I won't panic completely until we get to 25 games because there's still lots of talent here, but it's not meshing and it's starting to show in on court chemistry. Plus D-Lo has been absolute garbage. No matter what you thought of him before this season he's been a million times worse.

It must hurt to be a Wolves fan. They're probably the most disappointing team in the NBA. And then the team you traded your future to is tops in the Western Conference.? Seems like Gobert is the problem here.

They're an elite defensive unit when Gobert is on the court, but a disaster when he's off. They're an elite offensive unit when KAT is on the court, but a disaster when he's off. And when both are on they can't figure out where they're supposed to be on either end, and that includes Ant. And, I can't stress this enough, D-Lo has been a complete disaster on both ends, and at one point last week FORGOT TO GO ON THE COURT and the Wolves played a possession 4 on 5.

The good news (for me) is so far it all seems to be a mental thing. Finch is supposed to be a good coach so I have faith they'll figure it out, but there is now a clock running on figuring it out vs. the chemistry completely imploding.

It's not Gobert's fault, it's not KAT's fault, it's not Ant's fault. They are all having issues and each issue seems to compounded by the next guy's issue.

There is still plenty of talent here but so far those who thought it wouldn't fit have been correct. Also 5-8 is not a complete disaster. Plenty of time left to get it together. Could very well be a 20-2 run in their future at some point. And if they suck maybe they'll get Wenbanyama. Wait......

KAT and Russell will turn it around and work harder ☝️👍

And probably Ant 🐷 too
Edwards at least has potential to turn it around. Towns and Russell are who they are.

They got fleeced in the Gobert deal but probably the biggest name they can get. No one is going to play or live in Minnesota by choice.

Who Towns is, is one of the most skilled offensive big men who ever lived, who is mediocre to bad on the defensive end.

Russell is terrible though.

His PER is the best on the team.

I'm not panicking, but if I had to place the blame somewhere it'd be on coaching.

As to KAT, I think the Wolves underestimated the impact of moving him from the 5 to the 4. At 5, he was a huge mismatch. However, now playing the 4 with Rudy by the hoop, KAT has positionally transformed into like a rich man's Sam Perkins who doesn't pose the matchup problems he did when the Wolves didn't have a true center on the floor.

Well, everyone. That was the gamble. I don't think we throw the whole thing out after 13 games.

Right. But it was a risky gamble that seems to be playing out the way the skeptics envisioned. FWIW, I’m rooting for it to work.

Look out for a super aggressive Giannis today (assuming he plays) against the Hawks. They've been pretty physical against him defensively in their last couple of match-ups, and I think he's going to be pretty intentional about taking it to them tonight.

I pretty much just watch Warrior games now
Did you watch tonight's game?

Who had the assignment of boxing out Sabonis?
I didn’t watch every minute but he was eating Lamb alive at the end. BTW, it’s too early to pass judgment on these young guys, but the Warriors need production out of them right now and they aren’t getting it.
The young guys and the defense have definitely been disappointing so far this season. But there's one huge problem that should be much easier to fix. Nearly every game, Klay's shooting is hurting the Warriors. They need to cut him back to 15-20 minutes per game until he starts hitting 35%+ of his three point shots.

The Warriors’ starting lineup with Klay has the best net rating in the league, so I don’t think that’s necessarily their biggest problem.

Definitely didn't realize that, but still think it's one of the easier things for them to improve...although if it makes their bench even weaker, I guess that doesn't help much.
