Celtics-Warriors was a fun, intense game tonight. Would have been more fun with good officiating though. Celts in the bonus from the 8:11 mark onward in the 4th. Tons of bailout calls. It was like watching the Italian national team take dives.

Regardless, it’s great to watch a game with intensity.

Fun game. Tatum wasn't looking very MVP like in the final few minutes of the 4th. Looked like he was trying to lose that for them with all the careless turnovers. Good thing Brown was there to save him.

Sizzling hot take here. Tatum didn't shoot well and had too many turnovers, but the dude just put up 34 points, 19 rebounds, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals

He also needed 27 shots and 12 FTs to get to 34 points. That isn’t great. He also had 7 turnovers (and really had closer to double digits if not for a few horrific bailout calls).

His rebounding was huge though. Huge. And he played hard all game.

Saw Serge Ibaka (looking VERY disheveled) in the lobby of my office building on Wednesday (I'm about 20 floors above the NBA players association offices) Figured something was up, and I know he's basically been frozen out for the past 2 months.

Looks like he was there negotiating his exit, as apparently the Bucks are gonna try and trade him now

The Celtics played terrible in several ways last night (shot horribly from 3, bad FT shooting and turned it over way too much). But that was offset by playing relatively good defense, getting points in the paint and absolutely dominant rebounding.

Al Horford was the only guy who played a consistently great game. Everyone else had moments of good and bad. The Warriors chose to go small and the Celtics made them pay for it by getting 18 offensive boards and a handful easy buckets in half court sets.

Curry was off at times and Klay was great at the start but limited by foul trouble. Poole was streaky, but the Warriors just don't have enough firepower to be as great as they have been. Not sure why Looney only got 20 minutes because he was highly effective on both ends and settled down the rebounding when he played.

One thing I like to do is a quick Pts/possessions used analysis to determine how efficient/effective a guy was scoring. I kind of use 1.0 as the midpoint and below that is poor/inefficient and above that is good/efficient. I count possessions as FGatt + 0.5 FTatt + TO's. I round down the 0.5xFTatt to the nearest whole number because of 3-pt fouls and and-1's.

Here are the numbers for all of the Celtics & Warriors last night:

CELTICS
Tatum 0.850 (34/40)
Brown 0.696 (16/23)
Horford 1.429 (20/14)
RWilliams 1.273 (14/11)
Smart 0.857 (18/21)
GWilliams 0.400 (2/5)
Brogdon 0.824 (14/17)
White 0.143 (1/7)
Kornet 2.000 (2/1)
Total Celtics - 0.864 (121/140)

WARRIORS
Curry 0.967 (29/30)
Thompson 1.143 (24/21)
Wiggins 0.833 (20/24)
Green 1.222 (11/9)
Poole 0.857 (24/28)
Looney 0.667 (2/3)
Lamb 0.333 (2/6)
DiVincenzo 1.000 (6/6)
Total Warriors - 0.929 (118/127)

Basically the Warriors were more efficient, but the Celtics generated enough extra possessions through offensive rebounding to make up the difference.

Scrolling through this briefly, it fits my perception from watching the whole game.

Are you shams?

I am not. Made my post after my brother sent me that tweet.

Did you watch the game or just looking at the box score? Epic meltdown toward the end. Very Harden like - great stats but suspect in crunch time.

Just a reminder that Sabonis has been freaking amazing this year. 18.8/12.7/7.2 on only 20.7 usage, and had another triple double last night. I think he's graduated from a poor man's Jokic to a middle class person's Jokic.
That trade was largely panned but seems to have worked out for both teams.

Nerd.

seeing Sharpe and Adams face up really put in to perspective just how ****ing huge NBA players are compared to even other outsized human beings

I enjoyed watching people on Twitter think that 50-some year old Sharpe could take black belt jiu-jitsuian Steven Adams.
caught a bit of Lavar Arrington and TJ Houshmandzadeh arguing on sports radio this afternoon

Arrington said something like "i love Shannon, we work with Shannon. Shannon would get killed. he just had hip replacement surgery and he's 50+. Adams would have killed him. Shannon knows better."

Lakers trade Nunn and three 2nd rounders for Rui Hachimura. Nice get for the Lakers.
If nothing else, they swapped one of their two billion tiny guards for a legitimate forward. I have no idea if Hachimura is any good, but it just wasn't working out for Nunn here, so it's worth a shot. Looks like they're only giving up one of their own 2nd rounders, the other two were "extras" acquired via trade. Woj is posting the details.

They're only a couple games out of the playin spot right now. AD is talking about coming back next week.

It’s also a positive step in building a roster for next year since they’re indicating they’ll extend him in the offseason (he’s an RFA). Hopefully they can do a couple more deals like that (expirings for guys under contract next year) so they get out of this stupid cycle of roster building that is max deals plus 1-year minimums only.

Cap space ain’t what it used to be.

he's not great, but he's incrementally improved and like you said, getting a legit forward and anyone who can do anything on the wing is a good get. And they really gave up next to nothing. The Bulls pick might end up being ok, but that's essentially the only thing of real value (considering the timing of the other 2). So I've gotta give Pelinka high marks on this.

Plus Rui is now reunited with his mentor, Russ.

This is how bad the Pistons are.

Was at a fundraiser last weekend. They had a number of sporting events being offered up with blind bidding. I walked along and put in bids.

One was two front row tickets to a Detroit Piston game at Little Ceasars Arena. That included parking and pre-game dinner and drinks in the club area.

I put 120.00 on my bid. To my total shock they called my name. I was the highest bidder. 2 RedWing tickets same package went for 500.00, 2 Lions tickets same package bid was 1000.00 Michigan football tickets sitting in the new enclosed area was over 1000.00

The dinner and drinks alone are worth that. I asked my wife is she wanted to go she said no.

I gave them to my daughter as I don`t want to go.

Yeah, they're awful. That's still an incredible deal. Hope your daughter enjoys!

I made a mistake. The Redwing tickets bid was 800.00. The lady running it said only 2 people bid on the Pistons. One was 100.00, and mine for 120.00

You might get to see the opponent set a record for points in a half though

Rui is decent. I don't think he's a starter in this league. But he's a solid front line off the bench guy. He will help LA. LA certainly raked the Wiz over in this trade.

Wiz GM Tommy Shephard continues to be enamored with making trades due to problems he creates for himself. Wiz had like 6 forwards. They aren't getting enough playing time to develop. So Rui gets traded. Porzingis was a good get and probably the best player on the team, but no way he can stay healthy all year. And Beal is hurt often and far from the shooter he was in the past (pretty sure Shephard was forced into that Beal contract by the owner). Kuzma will likely leave. His Johnny Davis pick last year was atrocious. Guy won't be in the G-league in 3 years.

As bad as Shephard's moves have been, the problem lies at the top. Owner Leonsis is a lovable good guy. But he's so loyal he will never be in a mindset to blow it up and start over. If they had blown this thing up with a GM that could evaluate talent and traded Beal they could have set themselves up to be good in 3-5 years. Instead they are consistently average despite having somewhat decent talent. The roster is just so poorly orchestrated they can't develop.

I would think that the Wizards are arguably the most frustrating franchise to root for in the whole NBA. Charlotte and Detroit would be up there. Sacramento gets a temporary reprieve right now. We'll see if McNair can hold it together.

Washington had an underrated run with the Wall/Beal/Porter/Gortat group a few years ago. Those were fun teams to watch. I don't think the Wizards feel a ton of pressure to get things right though because there are only about 15 people in DC that are passionate about the franchise.

Imagine setting up a night at a Bucks game with a client including dinner and then learning day of the game that it is Pride Night with a drag show at halftime and a post-game celebration. Totally supportive of the LGBTQ community and all but this is a bit awkward. I've just texted him a heads up, waiting for his reaction.

I mean, yes that run may have been underrated, but it still pretty much amounts to nothing and right now they are totally stuck on the treadmill and it kind of seems like that's all Leonsis wants, which is what is so frustrating. At least Charlotte and Detroit have a few interesting young players with high ceilings, even if their ownership seems to have a similar view.

They've had compelling basketball to root for in the recent past, which takes them out of the Sacramento/Detroit/Charlotte category in terms of exasperating franchises IMO.

I've got to find my brightest, most fabulous jacket, pants and tie combo for the occasion. I'm not going to miss Giannis v Jokic and I'm going to have fun dammit.

I've got to find my brightest, most fabulous jacket, pants and tie combo for the occasion. I'm not going to miss Giannis v Jokic and I'm going to have fun dammit.

First 10,000 fans through the door that night will get a matching Bucks Pride Beanie!

I will legit buy this from you if you get one. No schtick.

Imagine setting up a night at a Bucks game with a client including dinner and then learning day of the game that it is Pride Night with a drag show at halftime and a post-game celebration. If I get one its yours. We won't likely be in the first 10k in the door but will try to snag one.

Hawks - fight me.

hawks have been way more cromulent than those others. They had a run that was at better than the Wiz in the mid teens and have at least at an interesting rebuild over the past few years.

of course the Resslers and Trae do have them teetering on disaster potential, but even that would be more interesting than the Wizards and Hornets.

Washington had an underrated run with the Wall/Beal/Porter/Gortat group a few years ago. Those were fun teams to watch. I don't think the Wizards feel a ton of pressure to get things right though because there are only about 15 people in DC that are passionate about the franchise.

Detroit has won titles - don’t see how they get to be included.

I guess it all depends on the time period we are talking about - the Bullets and Pistons won titles. Hawks have won **** all for my entire life.
