My overall thoughts on the draft based on reading multiple sources and what I came away from that research.
OL, RB, DT, DT, OL and RB.
When your first pick is in the 3rd round you aren't going to get anyone that makes up jump up and scream. But as Raider fans... we are not use to that anyways... unless we are jumping up and screaming "WHY?!"
The picks on the trenches all made perfect sense and seem to be solid, good value picks for where we took them. In doing some research on them there are definite possibilities for these guys to contribute.
Parham was an investment where I think we all wanted more invested. He will compete for playing time in camp. He may or may not start. We shall see but if we have a gem here and can plug him into LG then that frees Good/Leatherwood combo on the right side. Good can play RT or RG... we just don't know if Leatherwood can play RT or not. If we need to put Leatherwood at RG, I am good with Good at RT. Bars, Simpson and Parker will be in the competition for playing time too. The future of Parham seems to be in the weight room. The big knock on him was being susceptible to bull rushes. If he continues the body transformation that he has already undergone (see the previous post of where I showed his picture coming out of HS and then leaving college) then he can start. Mel Kiper loves him and calls him a future pro bowler.
White has a ton of pedigree as a highly sought after HS recruit. It seems the injury history and how he projects to be a 2 down back with not so wonderful pass pro. He is kind of the same type of back as Jacobs but in a whole different way... I know, that doesn't make sense... let me explain. He is a power runner like Jacobs but where Jacobs has burst and lacks top speed, it looks like you can flip that around with White. Lacks a lot of burst but once going has more speed than Jacobs. I see how he can fit easily as insurance for Jacobs. Of course, following the NE way, any given game he might get a ton of work and then not be seen or heard from from again for 6 or 7 games. He also had production on ST play so even if he doesn't get a ton snaps, he could contribute right away. Jacobs, Drake, Abdullah have some injury histories behind them, White does too but someone has to be healthy out of the stable. It is curious that Spiller was available and passed on. Spiller seems to have more explosiveness and ability to play all downs. Most scouting reports show him ranked as 2nd to 5th best RB in the class while White's range is about 8-12 in rankings. They are very different running backs but I am very curious as to what the teams saw in White over Spiller.
Farrell is a big space eater that can chew up blockers and free our boys on the edge to do damage or if you leave him one on one can collapse the pocket with just a bull rush. Beyond that, it doesn't seem like we should expect any pass rush from him but that doesn't seem like what his role would be. Seems like the exact DT player that Graham loves. I saw one scouting report that said he was the best NT in the draft. I am not really finding with any reasons why he was available at 126 for us so my guess is that he seems to be one dimensional and not going to add much in the pass rush.
Butler is a 3 tech guy who brings the ability to rush the passer to the table. He is heralded for his high motor and high energy guy that may not beat his man off the snap but continues to work until either the passer throws or he gets to him. With Crosby and Jones on the outside, having someone able to threaten the passer is crucial to impacting the passing game. I found this good nugget of info "Since 2019, despite playing two different positions in two different systems, Butler has had 51 defensive stops, second among all SEC defensive linemen. Last year, he had eight and a half tackles for a loss, five sacks, a forced fumble and 47 overall tackles, 19 of which were solo. Butler was playing defensive tackle in Tim Banks’ nickel-heavy 4-3 base defense while doing that. However, he has also played defensive end in the same scheme, when Bob Shoop was there in 2017, and he played as the one down lineman at defensive end in Jeremy Pruitt’s 3-4 scheme." So he fits that mantra of versatility, versatility, versatility that we can expect from players that this regime will covet.
Munford had 1,624 pass blocking snaps in his 5 seasons with Ohio St. and only allowed 6 sacks. Take a wild guess on whether or not he has experience playing multiple positions... yes, of couse. He spent time at LT, LG and RT.
Brown is a bit of a head scratcher to me as we have a crowded RB room to begin with. There was some glimpses of good things at Duke and UCLA. He will have a hard route to go to make the team.
Come June 1st, we will have about $20 Million to play with and I believe after the UDFA class 3 roster spots. After the draft, I am still targeting Will Fuller and Akiem Hicks as my two biggest wish list guys (Mathieu is out of the picture signing with the Saints) and then take your pick on another OL guy. I lean toward Bulaga to compete for the RT spot. Alternatively, bringing on one of the ex-NE LB's. That would be enough to sign all three and after roster cuts have plenty of room for in season moves.
