I hate these moves. They feel like spite moves. Unless ALW and Mullen are literally flinging poo or lighting the locker room on fire you don't just piss away assets like this. We don't have enough talent to be making message moves, we need to be coaching guys up and getting the most out of them.

Hate it.

I'm fine with it although Mullens is a surprise.
We don't care if you were a 1st rd pick or a starter last year. If you don't come in prepared and bring it everyday you're gone.

I kind of feel this way a bit, but not to this extent. Feels a lot like just getting rid of guys because they were part of the last regime. Many new regimes do this though. Leatherwood was a big reach at 17 and I hated the pick at the time, but he was an Outland trophy winner and definitely had some talent. I would have liked to have seen him given a year of coaching with this staff.

The way I see it is McDaniels and Ziegler are building off of what Gruden did right, and ripping the band aid off of where they feel Gruden screwed up.

Anyone else shocked Cle is still on the roster?

Well..... all the cuts have not been announced yet, so we shall see.

It is hard for me to believe that Mullen was being outplayed by others on the roster for even a backup role. I am willing to give the leadership of the team the benefit of the doubt though and let them make their decisions as they see fit. I feel like Mullen will be a player in this league for other teams. Not so sure about Leatherwood.

I think Garbers, Stoner, Tagovailoa-Amosa and Vanalkenburg are hopefully going to the practice squad.
All the others players waived honestly seem like made up names to me. I don't recognize any of them at all from the pre-season (except that Leatherwood name sounds oddly familiar)

Blind homerism IMO. If Gruden had come in and cut Reggie's first rounder from the prior year the pitchforks would have been out in full force. Right or wrong in the long term is irrelevant, 1 year isn't anywhere near long term enough. I don't care how bad the guy is or how much you want to put your own stamp down this isn't how you do it. I'll stipulate that I don't know how the locker room presence was so if he was disruptive I'll be more understanding but otherwise you don't just throw talent away when you believe you're a contender but in reality you don't have the full roster talent to get it done.

They kept all 6 draft picks and 4 UDFAs on the 53, plus several underdog vet FA signees and holdovers like Bower, Ty Johnson and DJT. And not all of the guys in front of these dudes sucked. It was more that the young and hungries outperformed and were rewarded. We'll see how they all work out, but at the forefront, I am liking the concept of keeping those that wanted it most and proved it on the field. Only dudes I am kinda disappointed to see on board are Amik and Isaiah Pola-Mao who both sucked during preseason games. But perhaps they have been ballin out in practices and the coaches gave them the doubt benefit.

Only eight OL. There's has to be a signing coming soon for that group.

Whenever somebody says, "this GM sucks, I could do better" I feel like its usually hyperbole, but boy looking back at this Mayock/Gruden era, I 100% think I, and probably almost anyone could have done better, especially in round 1. 6 1st round picks, and they ended up with:

2019: Clelin Ferrell (bust) Josh Jacobs (good but not great RB) Jonathan Abram (below average Safety) all had 5th year option declined
2020: Henry Ruggs (looked ok, at times) Damon Arnette (was awful) both cut due to off field issues
2021: Alex Leatherwood (awful) cut after 1 year

I'm not sure a team has ever gotten less out of 6 consecutive 1st round picks. Every single one was reach at the time other than maybe Ruggs.

Gruden was a disaster. He bragged about only sleeping 4 hours a night and working endless hours. I think he was in the office playing games on his computer because he was certainly not researching for the draft. He couldn’t have missed on more early draft picks if he tried. Be thankful he is gone and enjoy positive tinpmes ahead!

T-Billy adds that speed to the offense that you can rotate in there. I think Hollins sees the majority of the other outside WR with a decent injection of T-Billy injected and guest appearances by Turner.

Edoga is a former third-round pick by the Jets who needed a change of scenery. He did perform well in the preseason and has experience at both left and right tackle. With Brandon Parker out for the season and Alex Leatherwood off the roster, Edoga could be their swing tackle for the 2022 season.

S/LB Tyler Coyle​

Coyle is an extremely athletic safety/linebacker hybrid who played fantastically in the preseason. He got caught in a numbers crunch in Dallas, but he should be on a 53-man roster. Coyle has special teams experience and can play several different spots on defense.

OL Joe Haeg​

Haeg is far from an exciting player, but he does have a ton of NFL experience. Since 2016, he's appeared in 79 games at both tackle and guard. He would drastically improve the depth on the offensive line for the Raiders.

S Marquise Blair​

The Raiders love to use three safety looks and Blair is a highly versatile defensive back. He was a second-round pick by the Seahawks in the 2019 NFL Draft, but has struggled with injuries. Still, he would be a worthwhile claim considering his upside.

WR Tyler Johnson​

If the Raiders wanted to add another veteran receiver, Tyler Johnson would make a lot of sense. He has experience playing both in the slot and on the outside for the Buccaneers. He's just 24 years old and has two years of solid NFL production under his belt.

I am not sure about any of these guys. I don't know enough of Edoga and Haeg's play to say that would be good additions (but we got to add someone there... no?) Not sure who we got for Coyle and Blair. I actually like Tyler Johnson a lot but I am not willing to cut T-Billy or Turner for him. So... maybe Edoga and the rest is click bait to me.

I'm not much of a Josh McDaniels fan and think the way he left Denver and what he did to embarrass Indy by walking away after he accepted their offer was pretty deplorable but we're here and I have confidence in a lot of the pieces assembled and see them being a Playoff contender...despite blowing 6 1st round picks as has been pointed out, none of that a reflection of the current head coach.

When lions go thru a pride takeover, I think you know what happens to the little lion cubs, they're killed or left behind and McDaniels is the new coach and has taken over in Vegas and wants to rid it of as much leftovers from previous folks as possible. maybe he just didn't like Leatherwood and wanted him gone.

All we can do is speculate. Best guess for me right now to attempt to make sense of this is that ALW wasn't displaying pride or fight as he continued to fail.

Still a wonder tho if he was put in a position to fail by not trying him at G or backup LT, where he very effectively played in college.

I won't be shocked to see him resurrect himself as an LT somewhere.

Valid point, we don’t know what’s going on in the locker room. Other factors could have contributed to his release along with his poor play on the field. I don’t get the feeling he was a disruptive force in the locker room, too much leadership now for that to happen. But he could have been moping, complaining, maybe not all in on training and studying, who knows…

But Cle Ferrell is still on the roster and he’s basically been invisible for two years. Why is he still on the team and Leatherwood is not? There’s a reason the organization gave up on him (and Mullen) after one year and not Ferrell.

Plenty of other guys to do what with. Ferrell was a top 5 pick, but we also got 3 years of a look at him. He'd be a much better pure example. If Ferrell was putting in good work and effort then maybe that's not the message so you find someone else. The trading of Mullen did exactly this, no need to do it just to make a statement. To me it sounds exactly like what I always tell the young bucks not to do but they do it anyway - "don't make a move just to prove you're <your mentor> version 2". This looks like a guy making a Belichick move just to prove he's Belichick. But we don't want Belichick (well I mean we do but), we want a Raiders Coach and a Raiders GM.

I ran businesses for about 10 years and my main role was to go into a distressed location and turn it around. I frequently did exactly this - but I didn't do it with someone with the kind of potential that ALW had. I found the guy that put out the least effort and expected the most return and that's who I whacked. Next step was to find the people (or inventory, depending on the business unit) and see what had the most potential (for profit) and that was the reclamation focus. This is where ALW should have been categorized, he's a 2nd year player with talent. To be fair I also fired anyone that had any sense of entitlement or resistance to the new way - late, lazy, poor customer relations - and I didn't care how "good" they were. That's why I stipulated that if ALW was a cancer then good riddance. I don't know that part though and I think if it were the case we'd have heard more. If that comes out I'll back down.

ALW has a ton of physical talent. He's got some sloppy *** mechanics and those need fixed. OK great, coach him up. Give him a chance. Bench him, let him have his holy **** moment, and see how he responds. The book on him when he was drafted and the big aftermath was that this was a 5 star kid with 2 star technique that Mayock and Cable thought they could coach up and get up to speed. Not going to get into the merits of that decision but that's what you're left with so make the most of it. I remember walking into a store one day and going over their backroom inventory and complaining to my boss that all they had was a bunch of **** that I couldn't sell and needed a ton of work to fix. He just looked at me blankly for like 5 seconds then got that wry little smile and said "Then get fixing. If this location was a gem you wouldn't be here".

Hunter Renfro looks like an Apple Store clerk but went out and earned $30M. Carr was going into the final year of a contract that he outperformed. That's who we pay.

He didn't say they needed one, he said if they want to add one. Tyler Johnson has some talent but I knew the writing was on the wall when he dropped that pass in the 1st Q in the PS3 game. He's had a couple drops like that where Brady gets that look that you just know means "you're dead to me" ala Ronald Jones. 7 DT and 5 DE are too many DL to carry (and I don't like 4 TE either, especially those donkeys). We only have 5 WR and those are very suspect after the two starters. Johnson would be a great get IMO.

Should also take OJ Howard for a spin.

1. If he turns into a stud (or even just a competent starter) it's not for an AFC playoff rival, and especially not for an AFC West rival. And most likely not for a someday Superbowl rival.

2. By claiming ALW, the Raiders receive significant dead cap relief -

Because the Bears claimed Leatherwood, they assume the rest of his contract and it will save the Raiders $5.9 million in dead salary-cap room. But the Raiders still have a big chunk of dead money on this deal and will, in the end, pay close to 60 percent of Leatherwood’s deal.

No other Las Vegas player cut on Tuesday was claimed by another team and the Raiders did not claim any players. They can sign released players and unclaimed waived players at any time with the offensive line being a likely targeted area. The Raiders can also start adding to the practice squad now.

Nice. Seems like they cut the right guys, ALW potentially notwithstanding.

It is concerning though, that they didn't find any OL prospects to claim. But at least they can get their own guys like Meredith back on the PS to call up, if needed.

Haeg is far from an exciting player, but he does have a ton of NFL experience. Since 2016, he's appeared in 79 games at both tackle and guard. He would drastically improve the depth on the offensive line for the Raiders.

S Marquise Blair​

The Raiders love to use three safety looks and Blair is a highly versatile defensive back. He was a second-round pick by the Seahawks in the 2019 NFL Draft, but has struggled with injuries. Still, he would be a worthwhile claim considering his upside.

WR Tyler Johnson​

If the Raiders wanted to add another veteran receiver, Tyler Johnson would make a lot of sense. He has experience playing both in the slot and on the outside for the Buccaneers. He's just 24 years old and has two years of solid NFL production under his belt.

I am not sure about any of these guys. I don't know enough of Edoga and Haeg's play to say that would be good additions (but we got to add someone there... no?) Not sure who we got for Coyle and Blair. I actually like Tyler Johnson a lot but I am not willing to cut T-Billy or Turner for him. So... maybe Edoga and the rest is click bait to me.

Who is Marcus mosher? The raiders don’t need a wr. At all. i‘ve never heard of the other guys. I’m really hoping they can duplicate last years perryman and big E pick ups.

Same as last year's draft. Chicago had priority #7 of 32. Unless someone at the NFL leaks it, there's no way to tell if any of the other 25 teams put in a claim.

I call BS on the whole "31 other teams wouldn't offer anything" due to this. You're telling me an OL-desperate team like Chicago was willing to take on the contract, yet wasn't willing to give up a 7th-6th conditional whatever penny and instead risk one of the 6 other teams ahead of them in the waiver priority sniping him? You're telling me the Steelers at 20 and a horrible OL weren't willing to take a shot? I think it's far more likely he wasn't shopped at all.

If he's gone unclaimed then sure, but not now. Not with the #6 team having won the claim. I wonder how many other teams behind them also put in claims, would be fun to see that list.

Bottom line is they shopped him around. Your extreme frustration is leading to irrational propositions. I feel you, and agree they should've kept ALW for at least one more season, but let's bring it back some to a place of balance. The OL remains a huge concern, but otherwise this new regime seems to be doing very well. Let's pray for Carr to stay upright and see how the real games go before casting McZ in such negative light. It was only preseason, but I really liked what I saw from the rookie class and the value FA pickups overall - even on the OL, Parham and Munford look like keepers. Absolutely couldn't say that for ALW last preseason and especially not this one.
