2023-2024 NBA Salary Cap Draft - SECOND Annual Battle for the Wikkid Cup - Preseason Rankings are In! (1 Viewer)

Yeah, I’ll have the spreadsheet out soon.

Is everyone ok with starting the draft tomorrow so people can prep?
Everyone hasn't already built a spreadsheet with these headers for their top 300 NBA players?

If not, what are you even doing with your life?

Are you guys judging and discussing like a timdraft or are you playing an actual fantasy season with the guys you pick?

We do a ranking after the draft, then I put everything into a fantasy site to track stats, then we do another ranking after the season.

Ah. Very cool. So there's a subjectivity to it and it's not like you're playing an actual fantasy season. You guys rank the teams. Does that sound about right? If that's right, then enjoy yourselves. Very cool.

DRAFT SHEET

Guidelines for inputting picks into the workbook:
- DO NOT SORT THE DRAFT LIST TAB!!!
- Copy the player, team, and salary info for the player you are taking from the Master Salary List into the Draft List
- Put your user name next to the player you are taking on the Master Salary List tab
- The Team List tab updates automatically
- Last years teams and draft order are included in the last tab
- The Team List tab calculates the maximum salary for one player you can draft (assuming you need $1.8M for each remaining roster spot)
- DO NOT SORT THE DRAFT LIST TAB!!!

Announce your picks here in this thread but try to keep the draft workbook updated as we go.

I’m lame, so let me know if you can’t get into the workbook.

We’ll officially start drafting tomorrow, but people can always start making picks whenever.

Just an FYI - Son of Yo Mama is in classes all day so we won’t get too far until this afternoon if people are antsy to get going right away.

My pick is a no-brainer so I'll just get the ball rolling now.

1.01 is of course Nikola Jokic, who's an outright bargain at $47,607,350. Jokic is a positive contributor in every single statistical category, a one-man offense, an NBA Finals winner, and a horse racing champion. Now I can begin scouting for pick 40. :loco:

Son of @PIK95 has the next selection!

Jokic is still the most interesting person to build around in this draft because he'll need a certain kind of starting PF and PG to build with and those players might be hard to find, but it leaves tons of options for all of the tertiary players on the roster.

1.2 Tyrese Halliburton Indiana Guard
$5.81 MILLION DOLLARS

Just spoke to Luke on the phone, he said whoever didn't take Haliburton first made a miatake, lol. I probably wasn't supposed to say that. He may get on here tonight finally.
Love the pick! He'd have been my choice at 1 if our fantasy league was 9-cat rather than 8-cat. Because turnovers don't count against us in 8-cat, I thought that diminished the value of Haliburton and his exceptionally low TO rate. Still the best contract by far, though.

Keep in mind, when we do our rankings, most don’t care as much about the fantasy aspect of things. Most rank based on overall team building and how they think each team would fare when matched up against other teams. The fantasy league is mainly to keep track of stats during the season. I exclude TOs from that setup since it penalizes deeper teams with more players that get playing time. Basically, everyone will rank using whatever criteria they want.

This,

Last year, I was originally thinking only fantasy in the first round. Trying to build a viable team around my first pick was tough and I spent the rest of the draft making up for it.

ETA: I had Haliburton ranked #8 on my cheatsheet. Getting an All-star player at the price of a bench guy is not a bad move in the first round...still I'd rather have an MVP-level guy to start with if available.

We are thinking in only fantasy terms fwiw.

Ok, I’m sure this will lead to lots of confusion, but I saved the file as a Sheets file rather than excel but it’s a new file.

Do we stick with the excel version or switch to Sheets?

Update your link in the second post and add a link in here, but definitely switch to Sheets.

1.05 Luka Doncic - G/F - Mavs

$40,064,220.00

I was a little torn with what to do here and strongly considered going two other directions, but Doncic is just soooo good offensively and I'm confident I can build a significantly better team around him than the Mavs have. He's kind of trash defensively, but at least he's big and strong which provides a little bit of flexibility with the rest of the roster. He's probably going to slot in as the nominal small forward but obviously he'll be the lead creator and ball handler.

Just incase people forgot how ****ing good Doncic is because of their terrible team building in Dallas, he averaged 32.4/8.6/8.0 last season with a .609 TS% and a usage rate of 37.6. If I can find some defense and shooting around him, he'll be a better player than that in my ecosystem.

I would immediately change that. Most folks totally ignore it in all the rankings pre-season and post to determine winners. Build the best actual basketball team you can is my advice.

I'm just in it for the fun. I do fantasy, so I'm building the best fantasy team I can. Not worried about the stat geeks or whatevs. 😀 I suspect it will be a fine team either way.

This is who I was going to take. Who let this kid in?

Please PM when I am up. I hit a really unexpected busy time at work, which I have to finish because I'm driving to the beach tomorrow evening. My spreadsheet isn't as nice as Jayrod's but I do have one :)
