Re: Bronny

James had an excellent first day at the draft combine, testing as one of the fastest and most explosive athletes in the draft with his 40½-inch vertical leap and 3.09 three-quarter-court sprint time. He also shot the ball with impressive precision, converting 78% of his attempts in the side-midside 3-point shooting drill (which ranked second best among 71 combine prospects), and he shot 19-for-25 in the 3-point star drill, also ranking second best.

He’s getting drafted. Almost a certainty.

Yeah but is he any good?
We've had endless discussions, not you and I but others even when I'm not participating I'm reading and I don't see folks raving about Junior
I would NOT draft him if he were available and I were in charge of the Heat, I wouldn't do it mostly because he almost died playing on a basketball court and that's enough for me
If it happened there when he was 18/19, Freshman in College, I'm good

I wish him the best, not personal or anything other than my heart was in my throat when they were rushing him to the hospital, and then there's LeBron
It's all a little much and i would pass on Junior if it were up to me.

I think others feel likewise but I'm wrong occasionally

Idk I haven’t really seen him play. He tested athletically at a really high level. We had a conversation about him a few weeks ago in here but it seems like his real upside is a Patrick Beverly type and if he hits his 90% ceiling maybe a Jrue Holiday career. His floor is playing in Europe in two years.

But I thought it was only because of his name. This indicates he's wildly athletic and might be a good prospect to bet on. Idk, sounds too nuanced for sports takes.

I don't think he has to be good on the court as he'll bring in a lot of eyeballs and $ especially if Dad tags along. Sure this is being closely orchestrated by Rich Paul/Lebron and they have some sort of agreement in place with a team.

Cappy has been a neutral party here on this, hasn't he? Nobody has been especially pro-Bronny here, but a couple of us have been defending him against people who are saying that he is only getting attention because he's Lebron's kid.

Yes - maybe poorly executed but I was reinforcing the view our fearless leader has held prior, which I agree with.

Him being LeBron's kid almost feels like a negative at this point - if he was just a highly touted recruit who had a crazy heart scare and missed all of preseason, played on an ok team and didn't quite get all the way back into it but flashed a ton of defensive and passing potential...and then tested wildly athletically at the combine, he'd be a draft sleeper climbing up boards instead of a lightning rod for discussion.

Do you think that them stating there is a 0% chance that he would sign a two-way contract will keep teams away? While the above is positive reporting, there are a bunch of other reports that solidify him as a second round pick at most who would be hard-pressed to actually play NBA minutes any time soon.

I think roughly half of the 2023 2nd rounders ended up with full contracts - with the new exception for 2nd round picks allowing them to get more years (as of last year), I think we'll see more 2nd rounders signed to full NBA contracts going forward. So I doubt that will have much impact on his draft position. What will have an effect is him limiting his workouts to certain teams.

I don't think the workouts matter much for him. Bronny could be crippled in a wheelchair and he'll still get drafted

Cmon, he's refusing to sign 2-way contracts and has rejected something like 6 team visits. Despite his athletic testing mentioned above he was pretty bad at the combine scrimmages and the scouting consensus was that he didn't do anything to help his stock there. The only reason he's able to be this selective and is going to get drafted where he does (and it may very well be the first round) is because of his name. He'd be a fringe second rounder otherwise who would be out there working just to get a look from teams.

John Hollinger:

Bronny, meanwhile showed some of the same traits we saw at USC: An inability to gain separation off the dribble or get into the paint, and a limited ability to leverage his straight-line speed and one-leg leaping ability in the run of play. James hit two 3-pointers in the second game and made two floaters in the first, but over the course of his two days, he shot 6 of 18 with four rebounds, two assists and four turnovers. He was 2 of 9 on 3-pointers and 3 of 5 from the free-throw line.

James also measured just 6-foot-1 1/2 inches in socks; between that and his inability to get anywhere off the dribble, finding a pro position for him will be tough. His strong frame, 6-7 wingspan and 32-inch no-step vertical give him a chance to play bigger than his height, although we haven’t seen much evidence of it in his game tape yet.

For most scouts, I don’t think his play or measurements moved the needle much. Mostly, it just reinforced what they already knew. Certainly, there have been worse players drafted, but James’ résumé is hardly overwhelming. He seems likely to show up in the 50-to-100 range on most draft boards — firmly in play for a two-way contract, but probably not somebody whom teams would strongly consider before the back half of the second round.

Last two minute report for the complainers - 25% right in the NBA's eyes.

KAT foul out - correct call
Doncic potential 4 point play - yes foul, but should have been on the floor (thus 25% right - not a 4 point play)

Such a weak foul call if they are calling that on the floor. Yea, he grazes his arm but you can't call that considering how much they are letting them play. And they are ****ing cowards that they can't come out and say that Luka's shooting motion was unnatural

Opinions are different during the draft process who knew

No wonder everyone hates Gobert. Uncalled elbows already, and then little Derrick Jones swats his **** and he grabs him by the head/neck on the way down.

I wonder what else he does in his off time that like everyone who has ever encountered him hates him. Is it just his Frenchness? Seems unlikely because everyone loves Victor.

Everyone hates Gobert? Since when?

This game feels like it's gonna go one of two ways: Luka reminds a team who daddy is and blows them out irreparably by the 3rd quarter, like he does to Devin Booker, or Minnesota is gonna claw back and I'm going to be very nervous about the reverse sweep.

REALLY letting them play last few minutes. Kyrie just absolutely blindside POPPED Anderson and nobody even blinked. Refs are at risk of letting this one get out of control IMO.
