Does anyone here plan to watch the Spurs vs Lakers tonight (7:00 pm CST, ESPN)? This guy does. I'll have my eyes on Domanick Barlow - a 6'9" center who just turned twenty in May and his game showed a lot of growth in Monday's game against Charlotte (to be fair, Charlotte was very unimpressive) where he displayed a grown man's mid--range shot. Looks like a guy who will get some PT with the varsity squad this year.

Other players to watch:

Blake Wesley (last years 25th overall). He struggled against Charlotte, repeatedly driving to the hoop with nary a plan.

Malaki Branham (last year's 20th overall). He sat out the game against Charlotte while Julian Champaignie racked up 30 points (5-12 from 3), 8 boards, 2 assists, 4 steals, and 0 turnovers. Champaignie got paid last week (4 yr/$12M), so he probably takes the night off to allow for deeper evaluations of others, like Branham.

Charles Bediako (undrafted 7'0" center out of Alabama). Looks like an interesting project.

There's a lot of problems facing Portland right now and I've touched on them before:

Problem 1: Rudderless ownership and leadership. The team went from a passionate, caring owner with DEEP pockets to a faceless ownership group that doesn't care, knows it will have to sell at some point, but isn't motivated to sell right now. Greatest comp? Rachel Phelps from Major League.
Problem 2: An inexperienced GM who isn't an alpha and isn't seasoned enough to deal with the likes of NBA royalty like Pat Riley or NBA cache of a Sam Presti. I mean, how many of you even know who the Portland GM is without looking? If you are familiar with him, what's your take on the job he's done? Because his reputation here is lousy.
Problem 3: Dame's contract is an albatross. Moving him is going to be unsightly because it'll mean taking on bloated contracts of aging players who aren't ever going to suit up for Portland. So the return on Dame isn't going to be palpable. Good young players aren't coming back this direction in a trade. Just the way it's going to be.

Glad we ditched our season tickets when we did. This team is going to suck for years. But, hey......"SCOOT!"

I understand but that's where he wants to go. It's a player driven league. I see a three or even four team deal to get him there, but the return Portland gets is going to cause indigestion. When you promote a feckless GM with no prior experience and tell him to go play in the big boy sandbox, it's not going to be pretty when he returns.

That's the part I don't really understand. If you are going to consummate a trade that gets you back 30 cents on the dollar and makes your team significantly worse, then why trade Dame at all. What's he going to do, refuse to play and forfeit his $45M+ salary? He doesn't strike me as the type that would either refuse to play or play at 50%. The Blazers don't have to trade him to Miami (or anywhere for that matter). I think they will get back more than you think they will (or they won't trade him if the only offers are garbage).

The Final Four of the NBA's new in-season tournament will take place on Dec. 7 and 9 in Las Vegas, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski on Wednesday.

All teams will participate in the group stage, which will consist of six groups total -- three per conference -- and chosen by a random draw based on teams' winning percentage the previous season. Each team will play four games in its group, with the six group winners making the knockout stage, along with two wild cards who finished with the best winning percentage and not first in their groups.

Knockout-stage games will be single elimination through the final.

Silver has pushed for the past several years for the in-season event to be added, and he has often compared the notion of an in-season tournament to what is commonly seen in European soccer.

hard to say with 2nd round picks. this is the first year i can think of where teams weren't literally selling 2nd round picks for money. if they can get a pick in the top 5 or so of the 2nd it can hold some value, but the mid to late 2nd rounders really seem to not offer any real value.

I loved going after Thybulle. Maybe Holmes has more left and got buried in Sac. Wish McGee had performed last year (I actually think he was hurt a lot, so hard to tell) and we could have done some sort of McGee/THJ/other stuff poo poo platter for Ayton that the Suns may have wanted.
