I guess I am in the minority in that I thought Van Gundy was generally fine (though he needed to rein in the tangents sometimes). I thought Jackson was awful. I was surprised earlier when they fired JVG but not Jackson. Made no sense to me.

As for Doris, I think her knowledge is solid, but she is so bland... I would much rather hear JVG than Doc or Doris.

Love Doris. Shocked they’re promoting her because she is just so good and not outrageous in any way. I’m sure Doc will be fine too, I think he’s done this in the past and as a very recent coach he should have quality insight.

JVG will end up at tnt I’d imagine. Can’t imagine anybody hires Jackson.

Some people in the media seem to downplay it, but a lot of people do say that the league office really did not like Van Gundy because he called out the officials and league issues in general, and ESPN may have wanted to keep the league happy.

That is one of the biggest reasons I like him. But I recognize that could be true.

Edwards lost his mother, Yvette, and his grandmother Shirley to cancer in the same year, when he was just 14. One of the reasons he wears No. 5, it has been reported, is that both died on the fifth of the month. Anthony’s birthday? Aug. 5.

When Edwards was drafted in 2020, No. 5 was already taken by Malik Beasley. Edwards pressed his new teammate to give it up, but he never could convince Beasley to do it. By the time Beasley was traded to Utah last summer, it was too late for Edwards to request a jersey change with the league for the 2022-23 season. Veteran Kyle Anderson was signed last summer and took 5, which he wore in college at UCLA.

Edwards wore 5 while playing AAU as a kid, at Holy Spirit Preparatory School on the northern edge of Atlanta for high school and in his lone season in college at Georgia.

i agree with this i like doc and think he will give good analysis but i think it will be hard to listen to him an entire game take that to the bank brohans
Bill Simmons will still bring up The Finals Doc called and how good he was as an announcer. I could see Doc being a breath of fresh air after Mark Jackson's rambling nonsense.

Luka is looking pretty svelte practicing for Slovenia. Mavs over this year.

I am getting jacked for this FIBA tournament. Canada and Australia should be real threats

classy

There goes that man, in a very decent way...

I have never read anything bad about Mark Jackson as a person. He seems like a decent guy and tried very hard to be a good player, coach and commentator. I think he only succeeded once.
He had some homophobic stuff come out during his time at Golden State as a coach. I hardly think he was alone in that sort of rhetoric though
He was also holding his assistants back from getting higher positions elsewhere. He tried to take credit for their defense when it was all Malone's doing and then didn't allow Malone to talk to the press or interview elsewhere.

Apparently no 8th graders attending Lebron's school have passed the state's standardized math exam for the last 3 years. That cannot be true, can it?

Seems to be true, though I think that the population at that school comes from very challenging backgrounds
Correct, his school focuses on at risk students who have tended to fall through the cracks of the traditional educational system, so that article/headline was missing some key context and was misleading.

As someone who as taught a lot of at risk students and in a few schools that have been extremely poor performing. Having zero students pass in one year is unacceptable, over three years is ridiculous. If my school had that type of performance in one year I would be fired and so would half the staff. After 3 years I have no idea what would happen.

But zero? And over 3 years? Standard testing isn’t the end all be all, but that is pretty bad.

Well, Anthony Davis got the max extension today. He now has the current highest projected per year salary in the NBA.

2025-26: $57.6M
2026-27: $62.2M
2027-28: $66.8M (if cap goes up 10% per year)

Some massive numbers, and it will be interesting to see if any qualifiers will be put in for games played, but I think it was a guarantee the team was going to offer this. My understanding is this could have even been higher if the deal was done next year.

That contract already looks horrible and it doesn't kick in for 2 more seasons. If I was a Laker fan I would be very nervous that this might be the worst contract in basketball very soon.

Germany beat Canada by 5 in a warm-up yesterday, was somewhat surprised to see that. Canada was down big early and almost came back. This thing feels truly wide open, gonna be tons of fun

Murray wasn't there, and Canada is full of stars and probably just needs a little time to play together and gel.

:lmao:

Without Murray they have exactly one star. SGA

Everyone is loving on this Canadian team. I don't see it. US will/would smoke them
Dude of course the US will smoke them, what do you expect? 10X the population, by far the most talented team in the world, no one should be coming close to the American team. You don't think this Canada team has potential to come 2nd or 3rd? They have the 2nd best odds to win the tourney (obviously the USA should dominate everyone else)

We're basically talking about the rest of the teams and how they'll fare. Canada has the most NBA players of any other team. Murray is there, he's just skipping the pre-season friendly games.

I think the Canadian team is good and most certainly can/should finish 2nd or 3rd or hell even win it. I was just bagging on you for calling borderline NBA rotation players as stars

Canada team is the best they've had ever, and they are improving so much with more and more joining the NBA.

But yes, USA of course would/should dominate everyone else. A silver would be a huge win for Canada. I guess I meant "stars" as in "stars within the tournament".
