Like what incentive does that give to have an OOC game if beating a team like Alabama won't even help you get in to the playoff over them?
You have to - you know - actually win that OOC game. No points for just scheduling.
Yes, that is my point. Texas went on the road to Alabama and won. If they don't get the credit for it, then what is even the point of taking those risks?
OK, I misunderstood. I thought you were trying to justify Bama getting in.
Gotcha. No, AAA was saying teams like Bama won't schedule tough OOC games if losing them costs them a playoff spot. Which I get but the reverse is true. We are on the same page here.

This is so fun. Last night was incredible too. I just love college football, even if it's messy or maybe because it's so messy

Because it's messy. I think 6-8 teams is the max they should do for postseason. If it's 16 teams or whatever these games would be so much less impactful.
Yep I like the idea that when the playoff is so small, every game becomes a playoff game

With the P5 I always thought 8 was the magic number. 5 conference champs auto-qualify, than 3 at large and you could basically guarantee then that any undefeated non-P5 team is getting one of those spots.

With 4 mega conferences I think we could get away with only 6 teams, but would still be okay with 8. I think 12 is too many.

Georgia's respect and ranking is like 75% based on the teams of 21 and 22.

Hey, I hate UGA more than all of you combined but it’s ridiculous to think they shouldn’t be at worst top 3 but IMO #1 is fair. Not sure they can be faulted for Florida and Tenn sucking. They beat a good Missouri team, and murdered most everybody else including a good Ole Miss team. Kentucky who is average SEC school beat the 2nd best ACC team. I get folks hate the SEC but there’s a reason they’ve won 4 in a row and 5 of 6 titles.
The sec is likely the best conference this year (debatable) and hell Georgia may well win it if they get in. But you don’t get a free pass based on previous seasons. They’re an abundance of good teams this year and somebody is getting squeezed.

What team has better wins than Missouri, Auburn, Tenn, Ole Miss, Kentucky, South Carolina? I mean, come on man - you know this.
Auburn and Kentucky are average and SC sucks

Yep, and Kentucky just beat the ACC #2. SC I was just listing all their games - they do suck.
Hey, SC beat this supposedly good win Kentucky team too.

SEC is really weak this year. Mizzou nor Ole Miss should really be top 10 teams. If those are Georgia's best wins, I don't see them getting in.

Georgia is 100% out unless both FSU and Michigan lose, and even then they still might not make it behind Michigan or OSU.

I should have been betting here. Bama and Washington winning were so obvious to anyone who watched all year. Easiest bets of the season and I missed them (i never bet)

I hope so. Tired of these barking fans winning titles.

OSU is out. They’re not sniffing the playoffs.

Yea OSU is way out.

and as Michigan fan, I totally acknowledge their schedule was cotton candy for most of the year. But you run the table in a major conference, I think you should get in. You beat who is front of you. Bama-Texas played and Texas beat who was in front of them.

It won’t matter with the expansion but Bama winning the SEC and getting left out for playing and losing to Texas would have been horrible for OOC scheduling.
You know what would be worse for OOC scheduling? Texas GOING TO Alabama and beating them on their turf, then winning their conference and still being left out in favor of the team they beat.

The other debate will be who the G5 representative in the NY6:
Liberty - 13-0
SMU / 11-2 with the better SOS?
I think there is enough room in the new format to guarantee a G5 team a playoff spot. Would be both fun and allow all non P4 conferences to feel like they would get a shot.

My gut on your post is Liberty.

SMU’s schedule is in the 82 and Liberty is dead last. SMU deserves the bid. A conference champion with a tougher schedule.

Would Liberty make a 12 team playoff this season? They’re ranked about 20 before this weekend.

The new 12-team College Football Playoff field will include the six highest-ranked conference champions, which will receive automatic bids.

So this means of the 11 conferences (10 next year?). That top 6 ranked champions get the automatic bid?

Assuming Michigan wins

If FSU wins:

Michigan
Washington
FSU
I think Texas?

FSU loses

Michigan
Wash
Texas
Bama

Imo
Could be, it’s an interesting discussion. But how you end the season matters more than how you started. Bama just rolled out 10 straight wins and beat the other best team in the country. That’s more important than week 2.

More important but not of total importance IMO. They lost a home game. What other teams out here are getting into the playoffs with a home loss?

Bama winning really hurts Michigan, unless the committee puts Texas at 4. FSU deserves to be in with a win, but everyone knows Bama is making it in over FSU

How? You think there is a way for Michigan to win and miss the playoffs? Even if you can make a logical argument for it, it's Michigan. That's not happening.
