2023 Las Vegas Raiders - RIP Jack - one of the greatest Super Bowl moments ever (5 Viewers)

I can't imagine AOC is any worse than Hoyer. Give the rook a start against a beatable LAC defense. Makes zero sense to trot Hoyer out there.

Josh, this is Aidan O'Connell. You drafted him in the 4th round and he played in a pro offense with Purdue. He was the best QB in the preseason,he's better than Hoyer, and has a bigger arm than Jimmy. His only flaw is you're afraid of the unknown.

Nothing personal against JimmyG, but the best thing for this organization is for AOC to light up the scoreboard, win or lose (preferably win) and JimmyG never sees the field again as a Raider starter.

mcD trying to avoid a qb controversy. what a coward
This has been the entire problem. Cowards didn't call Carr's bluff and let him walk free. How much you think NYJ would be offering up for a solid veteran QB right about now? Cowards pass on Carter for Wilson. You have to be willing to take calculated risks. I know they aren't actually going with Hoyer, but it 100% wouldn't shock me at all. Our FO has zero balls.

Traded up for him…

I am seeing O'Connell is getting the start with majority snaps towards the end of the week while the start of week was more 50/50. It doesn't take a genius to see O'Connell has tons more upside than Hoyer and are even, at best, now. Hoyer knows the system but O'Connell is clearly the superior QB.

Let's just hope AOC isn't good enough to win us 5 games and take us out of the top 10 but bad enough that he's clearly not the answer. We don't need Davis Mills, we need him to be Cousins.

LOL at throwing around the word coward.

O'Connell is starting. McDaniels is doing the right thing here. Little credit? Just kidding, but how about stopping with the coward stuff.

??? Don't we want him good enough to lead a playoff team or bad enough to have a shot at a franchise QB in the draft?

Middle ground seems like a worst case scenario.
That's exactly what I just said. Good enough to win 5 games takes us out of the Franchise QB draft territory but won't get us into the playoffs.

edit: Turns out Mills is worse than I thought. We could definitely use Davis Mills level performance for the long term benefit.

Gotcha. Misread your post. Fixed.

Well you were 1/2 right haha. HOU finished with #3 pick Mills' rookie year, I assumed it was better since they didn't draft a QB but forgot how horrid that QB draft was, there was no one worth that pick in 2022. If we get #3 next season I'll do back flips (after 1000 hours of vitriol over going 2-15).

I want O'Connell to be the real deal more than anything but if he's not I want them to simply forfeit every single game. I have seeing nothing this season to dissuade me from the idea that Caleb Williams is by far the best QB prospect in the draft. Perhaps the best since Burrow at least.

It's a loaded class. Drake Maye is legit as hell. Shedeur Sanders, McCarthy, and Ewers could very well be franchise guys too. And that's without the wildcard guys like McCord, Penix, Bo Nix, DJ Uiagalelei, etc. It's a good year to stink it up.

Totally get it. Don't care. Williams looks stupid good. It may not play out that way in the NFL but Williams seems special.

I thought I saw Shedeur said he would stay if Caleb comes out because he believes he is a number 1 overall.

I want nothing to drink with Deion's kid.

He's already scared of the competition, or has the same overinflated sense of self worth that his dad had.

Pass.

I don't buy that for one second. No way he's even looking at 2024 mock draft rankings in any way, no way he stands down from that challenge, no way he doesn't use the snub to fuel him were it to happen, no way he even gives one **** about Caleb Williams in any way.

Is this opposite day? I literally think 100% the opposite about Deion's kid. It's unfair to Shedeur to judge him because of his father but, I am a flawed human so that's where I am ATM.

I am saying just saw something. I didn't pay much attention to it so I don't know the origin of it or how much it should be 'trusted'.

I have watched portions of some of the Colorado games and the kid can play. Absolutely should not be questioned. Whether it translates to the NFL is always the kazillion dollar question every year.

Weird. I’d prefer AOC come out, light it up, start an historic run, and show that we already have a franchise QB.
I know it’s a long shot, but if we’re going to wish, this is the wish I’d make.

I am not a fan of some of Deon's flair (but you can't aruge it was not marketing effective for both his playing and now coaching) but I am a huge fan of Deon for all the mentoring and outreach he did with kids in college going to NFL before coaching and what he does as a coach. If you take away from the Neon Deon stuff- he is not just coaching these kids but he is instilling within them everything that they should get (and many likely didn't growing up) on being a man. I am a huge fan of Prime because of that. Having watched him in this role, there is a good chance that Shadeur is a very well adjusted young man that should be no reason you would not want him on your team assuming he can play the NFL level.

:towelwave:

Brady was a nobody coming out of college and how many can't miss great NFL QB's have cycled through the NFL since he was drafted then were meh or fell flat on their face.

I much rather get a QB that is a franchise QB for years to come in the 4th, keep our next 15 first round picks (something stupid like that will have to be the asking price to move to #1 to get Caleb) and use them to build a team around that guy.

coach sanders hate can kick rocks. his current team isn't ready for the big time yet, but they are improved from the previous season. there is no indication whatsoever that the team will stop improving.

I didn't not wish/hope for that. I was just saying I hope he's not good/not great. That puts us in limbo like Denver with Lock a couple years ago or Seattle with Geno where we might have the guy, we might not, and we lose or pass the chance on a true franchise shot. Most DAL fans I know have been pining for them to send Dak packing for years for this exact reason. Hell this would be the Derek Carr story all over again ffs.

Obviously it would be best to get a 4th round steal and end up with a franchise guy but those odds are just so bad.

AOC is a McD QB in the mold of Brady and Mac Jones. He’s a robot QB with a decent arm that will do exactly what McD wants. This game will be very interesting for the future of this team. If this kid plays well, he just might save McD’s job.
The conspiracy theorist in me thinks this was the plan all along. McD and had to know JimmyG wasn’t going to make it through a full 17 game season.

Gee, did Khalil Mack get an untouched free lane sack of O'Connell on his first career pass attempt?

Yeah, that tracks
