2023 Las Vegas Raiders - RIP Jack - one of the greatest Super Bowl moments ever (3 Viewers)

That’s one down…. Anyone have any good news on Tyree’s injury?
Per Tafur:

Now the Raiders just need first-round pick Tyree Wilson to hit the field after a foot injury of his own. He was placed on the NFI list on Friday and another rookie defensive lineman, Byron Young, was put on the PUP list with an undisclosed injury.
Byron Young is news to me! When did he get hurt? Getting out of his car in the parking lot? Jeez…

There are RBs and there are elite RBs. Good luck replacing the Josh Jacobs we saw last season.

Disclaimer: I am not at all advocating more than a 2ish year guaranteed offer at semi-top dollar. If Josh demanded more than that, it's his bad.

Either way for fault, good luck replacing the Josh Jacobs we saw last season.

Tafur: Raiders and Josh Jacobs weren’t close to a long-term deal

Vinny, hondo, pellisario and others say differently. Who knows. Tafur is most click bait these days. IMHO
Did any give any evidence to that from sources or anything other than Jacobs sitting in the parking lot with Crosby?
Nope. tafur was the only one who said they were far apart
I didn't ask who said what and who didn't. I asked if they have any reason/evidence to say as much other than Jacobs chilling with Crosby?

I am not saying for sure either way. Tafur's report did not cite a source so I want to know if someone has something or are they doing what I have seen from other readings which is "well, he was in the parking lot waiting to sign so they must have been close!"
I swear you never actually read my posts. I highlighted the portion you missed.
My cousin was saying the same this as Tafur .....take that for what its worth
Well... that does it. I don't believe Tafur anymore.
So... I went back to the Tafur article (looking for something else) and apparently the evidence of them not being close was Josh Jacobs himself tweeting a response to the Rich Eisen show that has Breer on saying "my sense is that they were close" with a blue cap (apparently that means 'lie' these days). I skipped the twitter screen shots and just read the article so I missed it before.

All the other reporting of them being close literally was reporting Jacobs sitting outside with Crosby = close.

The evidence points to them not being really close... no smoking gun but Jacobs saying they weren't is the best source of real info available.
I haven’t seen any definitive info that supports either side. It’s all a bunch of crap unless it comes from the person's mouth. Until I see it, I’ll assume it’s just business.

I don’t think josh Jacob’s will repeat last season. Let the bs play out. Jacobs will either sign and regress to form. Or the raiders will go with a committee that nearly matches or surpasses him.

jacobs in his big contract year is not going to be the same guy once the guaranteed money is there. guy could miss half the season or worse. even at his best, the team still stunk it up. we need defense more than a star rb. not smart to get locked into a big money contract for a rb. next few years the money will be better used elsewhere.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports Josh Jacobs was “spotted this morning boarding a flight leaving Las Vegas” and that the veteran running back “doesn’t plan to return anytime soon.”
Jacobs has yet to sign his franchise tag and appears unwilling to play on it at this time. The 25-year-old back is in search of a long-term deal after leading the league with 1,653 rushing yards in 2022. Given the current state of the running back market, it seems unlikely the Raiders will be coming to Jacobs with a long-term extension anytime soon. Ameer Abdullah is listed as the backup to Jacobs on the depth chart, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see second-year back Zamir White handle a bigger role if Jacobs were to miss actual game time.

My take:
Jacobs will sign the tag right before the season. He's not leaving $10M on the table just to be in the same spot next year. I also don't understand how people that "report" or opine on these things don't even know how the rules work. The Raiders can not offer him a long term deal now till next offseason. I also saw someone on ESPN a couple days ago saying Barkley should sit out the first 2-3 regular season games and the Giants will cave and give him a long term deal.

Smart for Jacobs. Why come in and work for free? Come in before the season starts, stay in shape, try and get paid next year.

Honestly, I don't need him playing in preseason

Zamir White stock on the upswing? Looks that way…
I would say so. There’s a strong chance Jacobs’ numbers will regress, whether it’s by design or natural RB decline. Either way White should be the beneficiary if there is a bump in Carrie’s. PPR Abdullah might be worth a late flyer as well. I’ll be watching Britton Brown in the preseason to see how he looks compared to White to see if there’s anything there that might suggest he can supplant him or eat into his touches in any way.

Whites just not that special , but i might grab him late in a draft if hes there just because

They can't give them long term deals... they can verbally agree to something but can't sign anything until after the season.

There is no incentive to sign now for a RB unless you want to work hard this year hoping it pays off. Don't sign and miss the preseason. Sign before the season and don't miss a penny. Not a penny difference in pay for them to sign now and work with the team in preseason or wait and do what you want then sign.

I get it. The RBs are pissed. If there is anyone in their ear telling them to sit the season is a good plan then those people need to be fired. The only hand you will force is them looking to replace you.

I am not sure how you can definitively say that.

We barely saw him. When we did it was clear he has significant more speed and burst than Jacobs. Not as shifty as Jacobs though.

In that light duty he posted a 4.1 average which is not bad.

There was enough there when we saw him to be optimistic of his future. There is not enough evidence to say he is special but also not enough to say that he isn't.

Jacobs is playing a dangerous game. If he gets seriously hurt his value will plummet and good luck getting a decent sized contract. Even if he plays well he won't get as big a contract as he wants next year IMO.

We have seen it coming for a while but the Peters signing just makes sense. The league was down on him because of the bad year last year but that was first year coming off of ACL which historically takes the second year to really come back from. If he makes a rebound and is anything like the Peters before his injury then this will go a long way to helping shore up the defense. If not, it is a one year deal and we don't lose much as we just lean on whomever we would have gone with without signing him. Buzz is that he looked pretty good on the tryout and in time for a full camp.

Can't see any downside to the move. If it doesn't work, you move on. No big investment
When you’re last in the league in INT’s with only 6, change is needed. Hopefully he’s got something left in the tank.
There is plenty of change without adding him but this is a no brainer to me. I think chances are he is better than he was last year. If not, we walk easily. If he is anywhere close to being who he was before the injury them we have a good outside CB for cheap.

Giants gave Barkley a little bump and he reported. So there is our answer as to if the Raiders could give Jacobs more than the tag for just this year.
Exactly. Do a similar thing with Jacobs and let’s get this behind us so this team can practice together in camp.

Giants only dangled a $900,000 carrot in front of Barkley’s face to get him into camp. Why can’t the Raiders do the same? I’m getting the feeling Ziegler is playing hardball and McDaniels is ready to go RBBC if Jacobs doesn’t sign his tag.

Or Jacob’s wants a 3 year deal at max money

But he can’t get that right now. Unfortunately for him, he needs to sign the tag and make $10 mil this season and hope for a long term deal after the 2023 season now that the July 17th deadline passed. Or risk losing it. He better be careful. Making a statement or sacrificing himself for the good of future RBs won’t put food on the table for the 8 little mouths he needs to feed.

They can offer him a single year bump beyond the $10 MM franchise figure. They should. They seemingly won't.

Yep. Looks like they’re going to play hardball. Now that Saquon caved in, Jacobs is the last man standing (not counting Cook, just the tagged RBs), I bet the Raiders are hedging their bet now that Jacobs is “alone” in his protest he’ll realize he currently has no leverage and will sign the tag and play half-a$$ed this season until he gets a deal he’s satisfied with.

It is like hours since Barkley signed with a bump. I prefer him in camp but it isn't a thing to get worried about until after camp. I think the channces of him sitting out are about aa good as @ZADO cousin getting something right.

Sitting out the season or camp? He's definitely sitting out camp unless McDonald's offers an olive branch. Playing hardball over a couple $MM with a heart-and-soul-of-the-team player is penny wise and pound foolish, at best. Too many here, and seemingly Raiders HQ don't seem to recognize the human element here and the cascade effect of disrespecting one of the most respected locker room leaders. RB argument goes out the window when we are talking a one year deal. Goes out even further when you spend a decent chunck of cash on a former Chief malcontent who hasn't played well in years. That was the guy to play hardball with.

I didn't watch a huge number of games last year to eye test anything, but I'd love to see some sort of work on how much is actually on the corners and how much is on other factors. It seems low regardless, don't get me wrong, but if you normalise for quality of opposing QB (playing Mahomes and Herbert four times a season wouldn't help), general level of score and defensive play changing the run to pass ratio for opposing teams (i.e. if we're down a lot and can't defend against the run, teams will run more and we can't get picks there), maybe even small things like Crosby actually converting marginal plays into sacks whereas a lesser pass rusher might actually allow the QB to get a pass off, potentially hurriedly into bad coverage situations

I don't get why you guys are dedicating so much time to Jacobs and his contract drama, the Raiders front office are experts when it comes to dealing with contracts and players. It's like y'all forgot about how well they handled Carr and his contra...
I've watched them baffle contracts for so long that I completely expect them to blow this. I should have cut my pain in this team when they moved out of California but silver and black for life.

IMO Jacobs should be locked up for the next 3-4 years and then we get ready to move on once he hits 29 years of age. Give him a 4 years with a large signing bonus so that it doesn't count against the cap and make both sides look good.

Season. That is the only thing that is really a concern. He knows the offense. Sure, being in camp is better than not being in camp but I can live with a RB who knows what to do not being in camp.

No one knows what has or hasn't been offered and what demands have or haven't been made. So.... I am not ready to do any finger pointing at this point.

FWIW Reggie Mackenzie always put together good team friendly contracts.

Kadarius Toney had a knee injury and surgery. Out for camp and may or may not miss games.
That guy is always hurt. Hurts FF owners way more than it hurts the Chiefs. Kielce is the real WR 1 and the WRs, including Toney, are just enough to make the offense roll well.

Per Vic Tafur in The Athletic

Along with rookie pass rusher Tyree Wilson (non-football injury list), rookie defensive tackle Byron Young (physically unable to perform list) and second-year defensive tackle Neil Farrell Jr. (non-football injury list), cornerback Nate Hobbs was not out there. Hobbs took a fly ball to the face in a charity softball game on Saturday, and while there was blood and swelling, he is expected back soon.

A "fly ball"? Not a line drive?

My hopes for him turning into a ball hawk have been dramatically reduced.
