TRAINING CAMP UPDATES VS RAMS DAY1:

▪️Raiders offensive line is, for lack of better words, bullying the Rams defensive line on 1-on-1’s.

▪️Hunter Renfrow just put a man on a different planet on a crosser a moment ago.
Nasty route.

▪️Adams and Renfrow had couple reps each against Rams DBs in 1 on 1’s. Looked good.

▪️Matthew Stafford said Maxx Crosby was in the backfield a few times and "any time he gets within 5 feet of me he's yelling 'sack' in my face"

So he doesn't know if those were actually sacks or what lol

▪️Jimmy G with a 70-yard TD to Phillip Dorsett on a wide open post. Great play design.

▪️Davante Adams is just fine. He was cooking today.

▪️Another pick for Sam Webb off the deflection - against Stetson Bennett.

▪️While the #Raiders have been in the head of Stetson Bennett today the same can’t be said for Matt Stafford. He was looking good hitting targets on the outside.

▪️Davante Adams winning every matchup thrown at him.
2 straight TDs in man coverage. Jimmy threw one of them and Hoyer threw the other.
Also has drawn 2 pass interferences on deep balls.

▪️During 11-on-11, #Raiders DE Maxx Crosby chased down Cam Akers on a run play and tried to punch the ball loose. Akers took exception. Both sidelines cleared and got into the scrum.

▪️RB Sincerely McCormick doing a little bit of damage late in practice. Took a pass from Brian Hoyer to the house and followed up with another solid gain a few plays later. Per, Levi Edwards.

▪️ Jimmy G in #Raiders 2-minute:

5/9, resulting in FG
-Sideline incomplete Davante
-Abdullah in flat for 10
-Adams sideline catch for 30

▪️Jakobi Meyers has been very Solid all camp.
The range to get open across middle time after time but also having the ability to snag ball at high point (jump ball TD in redzone today)

▪️Overall solid day for both teams. Raiders seem to start slow today but picked it up. Redzone needed more creativity today. Maxx Crosby is that Old School type Raider. He’ll antagonize you all day and beat up your teams RB.
 

Training Camp Notebook 8/16​




Offense


  • It was the Davante Adams show during Wednesday's practice. He was targeted heavily against the Rams' young secondary, and seemed to cause havoc for them. He drew two pass interferences on deep balls during 7-on-7 drills and caught a lot of passes during team period, including two touchdown grabs.
  • Along with Adams, Jakobi Meyers also had a big day in the passing game, seeing the end zone multiple times.
  • Sincere McCormick made a few plays out of the backfield, including a touchdown catch from Brian Hoyer near the end of practice. The former UTSA Roadrunner scored two total touchdowns in the Raiders' preseason opener last Sunday.
  • The Silver and Black offensive line looked dominant against the Rams during 1-on-1s. Kolton Miller, Greg Van Roten and Andre James particularly held their own.



  • Defense​

    • First-round draft pick Tyree Wilson got in his first day of practice in the Silver and Black. It was the Texas Tech product's first time in pads since suffering a foot injury on November 12 against Kansas.
    • "He's progressing the way we thought he would and so now it's time to kind of take the next step here. Get him on the field, in his pads, start working towards the ability to be in teams drills," McDaniels said of Wilson.
    • If it was the Davante Adams show on offense, it was the Maxx Crosby show on defense. He seemingly won a majority of his battles, whether lined up against someone in 1-on-1s or team period. It was definitely an hard day at the office for the Rams offensive line against him.
    • Sam Webb came down with an interception during team period, reminiscent of the one he had against the 49ers last Sunday.
    • Adam Butler and UDFA Adam Plant both made an impact on the defensive line, coming off solid Preseason Week 1 performances.

Raiders offense​



  • It was another productive day from wideout trio Davante Adams, Hunter Renfrow and Jakobi Meyers – who all caught multiple passes from Jimmy Garoppolo in 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 team period.
  • Zamir White ripped off a long run in team period, impressive considering he was going up against the likes of Aaron Donald on a few snaps.
  • Dalton Wagner is beginning to make some noise at both tackle positions for the Raiders. The UDFA from Arkansas played well in the preseason game against the 49ers, and continued that level of success Thursday morning. The 6-foot-8, 320-pounder also earned a nickname in the locker room: "They call him big country for a reason," Head Coach Josh McDaniels said. "[L]ong arms, kind of learning the differences between pro and college football right now, as all young linemen do. ... He's doing everything he can do to give himself a chance, which is what you want to see from a young player."



  • Raiders defense​

    • Another huge day from Maxx Crosby, who made multiple stops on runs and put pressure on Stafford.
    • Nate Hobbs returned to practice, and also made a few plays against the run.
    • Marcus Epps came away with an interception during red zone drills against the Rams.
    • Defensive tackle John Jenkins scooped up a fumble recovery on an attempted screen pass. Jenkins had a sack against the 49ers in the preseason opener.
    • Rookie Jakorian Bennett continued to shine, making a few timely pass deflections. Another rookie who had a hell of a practice was Nesta Jade Silvera on the defensive line, getting the best of the Rams offensive line several times in 1-on-1s and team period.
    • Cornerback David Long Jr. also made a few plays in practice. This was Long's return to Southern California, after playing his first four NFL seasons with the Rams.
 
If you want to get angry and frustrated, go track down the latest Vic Tafur interview with Rich Eisen. That guy literally had nothing good to say about the Raiders other than he expects Jacobs back by week 1. Even when asked about AOC, they only talked about what number he was wearing and how disrespectful it was to the former employee that wore it before him. No talk of how well he played. Nothing! There’s always been a National media bias over the past 20 years, just this year it seems to have ramped up to new level.

I guess I was more disappointed in the lack of depth and substance to the interview. I used to think Rich Eisen was pretty good in the sense that he usually has his finger on the pulse of every team. But I think he was burned by the over-hype from last year and he has his Jets blinders on right now, being more concerned where Aaron Rodgers had breakfast instead of actual relevant NFL news. That Tafur interview was useless waste of airtime imo.

Fair enough. I will say that in the snippets I catch of Eisen he hasn't been very good. He's great on the NFL Network so I'm not sure what happens to him when he does his show. Anyway, I can see what you're saying.
 
I like the fact the Raiders are one of a very small handful of teams that don't retire jersey numbers (Cowboys, Ravens, Falcons & Texans).

It's well known they don't and Tafur and Eisen are absolutely aware of that policy. Weird conversation for them to have about Super Trooper.

I don't think any other fan base or media outlet hates the Raiders more than any other team (outside the division of course) but there is a well documented, systemic on-field bias against them.

Horrible journalism. I had a soft spot for Eisen for all his charity work and I’m pretty old so I go back to the origins of his career, even pre ESPN when he worked for a small local news channel in far Northern California where I used to live in my early 20s. Anyway, highly disappointing…

100% but when that’s the only topic of discussion that comes up about a rookie QB playing well for the team you’re supposed to be covering in the media, it’s terrible reporting. If you just listened to Tafur, you’d think the Raiders have already given up on the season and their only goal this year is to get the overall #1 pick. Which makes zero sense judging by the way O’Connell has played thus far and compare him to the top QBs in his draft class; it’s not even close who has been playing better. As a coach it makes no sense to put all that time, effort and essentially your career on the line getting AOC ready to play only to know your overall plans don’t include him.

Been keeping my eye on Wagner.... he has some buzz early and then had a heck of a game against SF. That size and it looks like he knows how to use it.... it is looking like Herron will be looking for a new job come cuts.

On the Raiders being hated.... if you do a "most hated sports franchise" usually the Raiders will pop up on those lists.

Example: Coming in at #9

One thing is to think in our division. Who do the Chefs hate the most? Who do the Donkeys hate the most? Who do the Dolts hate the most? The answer is the same. I think the hate has lessened over the years as we have not been competitive recently but once we get back to winning games again.... we are an easy target to hate.

I think Carter and Dorsett bring more to the table than Cole.

I really think it is between Dorsett and Cole. Carter, I think, has the return man duties locked up so he brings that extra value there. I like Cole though and would give the edge to Dorsett being an ex-Pat BUT Tucker and Carter are 5'9 and 5'8.... Dorsett is just 5'10.... Cole is 6'1 because after Adams and Meyer everyone else is under 6 feet and that may end up being a concern.

seems like more of a message to the team. anybody not buying in can be replaced and have a new player wearing your exact number. no one is above the team, not even the starting qb of the last 8 seasons.

or maybe the guy just asked for that number and nobody cared.

I think you can swap out Willis for Young, and that’s the 8 we keep for sure. Hope we can PS Nesta, and maaaaayyyybe Koonce and Willis fighting for one spot.

Pretty sure the the janitor's favorite broom has a shot at being the #2 QB when Brian Hoyer is the only thing in the way.

I don't pretend to understand the minds of NFL coaches but if Brian Hoyer sees the field in 2023 something has gone horribly wrong for the Raiders. Like, multiple cascading, catastrophic failures.

The kid has hands of stone. That’s probably what kept him out of the first and second rounds. Hopefully that’s something he can improve on because he’s got a great combo of speed and elusiveness.

Two games in, and I'm seeing speed that no one else on this team has, seeing him cook guys as at outside WR, electric punt return ability, and some real tough catches he didn't bring in.

My exceptions weren't this high. Maybe everyone else's are, and they disguised it by crapping all over the pick from the second it was made. Didn't have drop issues in college, and looked better thus far than DHB did in 7 years, so I'm gonna retain my surprised optimism.
