If AOC hits (and/or if they draft a first round 2024 rookie to start next year), here is how they get out of the Grop deal this offseason:
POST-6/1 RELEASE
2024 Current Cap hit: $28,517,000
2024 Dead Cap: $15,517,000
2025 Current Cap hit: $28,517,000
2025 Dead Cap: $12,801,000
2024 Cap Savings: $13,000,000
2025 Cap Savings: $15,715,000
Last figures really the most relevant. If Jimmy's a bust (he is), you punt, take the cap savings for the next two years, and use that money to buy more defenders and OL. There is already a budgeted amount for AOC's super cheap contract, and contracts for next year's draft picks, including any rookie QB. So that $13 MM and $15.7 MM really can be used for DEF/OL in free agency - assuming they don't make some boneheaded move like signing another retread FA QB like Tannehill or some other turd with that money.
Even if AOC hits big over the remaining season, I'd still look to draft one of the rookie QBs coming out. There are so many of them that there's a good chance one of them would fall into BPA status at some point in the early rounds of the draft for the Raiders.
