The Jets haven't made the playoffs in 12 years. The gap between them and the next worst team is like 4 or 5 years. We NEED this.
At this point, its not like they're getting a top 5 pick and can get Bryce Young. First round playoff blowout loss and picking 20th is WAY better than picking 16th or 17th.
Unless White leads them to the super bowl, Wilson will get another opportunity at some point. If he cant fix himself to basic minimum viable QB standards....he was never the guy anyway.
I disagree. After yesterday's performance, White is the starter. Wilson might see time, but only if (1) White gets injured; and (2) Wilson works hard, fixes his mechanics and has some good practices. Otherwise, it's Flacco. The offense looked sooo much better yesterday, especially on that first drive, and there was an energy that was COMPLETELY lacking when Wilson was the starter. The ball was coming out on time and White made some great reads and accurate throws. His mechanics were spot on in the pouring rain. Sure it was the Bears, but I've seen enough - Mike White is the starter.
For this year, I would agree. Unless White's performance regresses to the point where Wilson was, or he gets hurt, I'd keep playing him.
But next Summer (again, Unless White leads them deep into the playoffs) I think you make it an open competition again. Wilson's mobility (and some would say his elite arm talent) provides upside that White MIGHT not have. So I dont see the harm in letting him compete for the job next season.
His contract makes him uncuttable and nobody is going to trade him, so you give them the opportunity to show improvement in camp next season.
But yeah, if White keeps throwing the ball like he did yesterday, he should obviously start. And in the case of injury...at this point in the year, I'd go back to Flacco. Wilson was just so bad that
there's no way I would trust him in a must-win game (which pretty much every game will be for the rest of the year if the Jets want to make the playoffs)
