2023 Philadelphia Eagles - Complete waste of a season finally comes to an end. (13 Viewers)

Hurts deserves all the smoke coming his way.
In January 2022 I went to the Bucs-Eagles playoff game and watched the Bucs smoke the Eagles. Every time Hurts dropped back we all thought a pick was coming - he was horrible. Then last year he looked like the best player in the league and I thought I’ve never seen a guy improve like this over 8 months. And now he looks kinda terrible again? Weird career trajectory.

Why are we throwing low-percentage deep sideline passes when a 15-yard pass anywhere on the field (because we have the timeouts) would get us into FG range? Why do we keep throwing those at crucial points in games when it's clearly not the right thing to do? Is Johnson calling these or are Hurts and Brown just disregarding the playcalls and deciding to play sandlot ball?

I mean Hurts didn't give up a 92 yard 2 minute drill TD.
He didn’t kick the extra points either.

The offense is the strength. It can’t keep faltering over and over again when they need to move the ball. 2 timeouts left and you need what, 20 yards for a chance to tie?

3rd down late, gets a clean pocket and takes off immediately. Look at his turnovers compared to last year. Etc etc.

3 losses in a row hurts the soul. Eagles better beat the Giants by 21+ on Christmas, total domination of that game

Last year was his first time ever having the same offense in back to back years. I think that was a huge part and probably why they went with Johnson as OC.

We’ve reached the point where Sirianni is going to start feeling his seat getting warm.
100%. Same issues have been here since week 1.

At this stage I may have even been to hard on Desai. How can you play D when you don’t have guys who can cover man to man? How can you zone it up when your DL can’t get pressure?

Honestly if they want any hope of winning a Lombardi this year, they have to can Johnson this week. He cost them this game as much as much as any player on the field.

I don't care. Then can win the last 3. Doesn't mean anything. We're not beating SF let alone anyone else in the playoffs this year.

I'm more upset that they had me fooled. This is why Philly fans are pessimists. Can't even dare to hope.

ahh. watching the all phly post game. they brought up that this feels a ton like the 2018 season after the '17 season. eerily similar after these 3 games

Right, with all timeouts in their pocket too (I believe) leaving the middle of the field in play the whole drive? Such basic mistakes, repeated over and over.

This whole thing is reminding me of Wentz/taylor. It seems BJ and Hurts are just too buddy buddy.

My son and wife went to the Sixers game tonight. He was so pumped up and she said he was dancing and cheering the Sixers on like crazy. And then they lost. To the Bulls. :sadbanana:

I can’t think of an “MVP QB” who does what he does in that spot. That’s rookie ****

Only good thing out of tonight for me.

That’s the issue I’ve always had with hurts. He’ll make some good plays but he still makes so many rookie ******** plays.

I mean Hurts didn't give up a 92 yard 2 minute drill TD.
Hurts had 143 yards, 0 TD's and 2 INT's passing. Yea the defense collapsed that drive, but that doesn't excuse that miserable performance. Sam Howell threw for 300 and 3 TD's. Prescott and almost 300 and 3 TD's. Even the Brown's PJ Walker was able to eclipse that mystical 200 yard mark vs the Seahawks. Andy Dalton had 300+ yards vs them this year. Hurts couldn't break 150. They had the ball at midfield with a little over 2 minutes remaining - and he couldn't ice it or complete a pass.

“My favorite thing about that last play is how the Seahawks had 6 defenders on that side of the field and 1 defender on the other side of the field bc there was no doubt it was gonna get chucked deep to AJ Brown.

Kenny Gainwell was 3 yards away from Hurts and 25 yards from the nearest defender.”

They have Hurts, Johnson and Brown figured.

I don't know if is is Johnson or Siriani who is more to blame for some of the calls and offense prep. But there is really no reason why you only score 17 points against this Seattle defense

I don't know how much of this is on Hurts. He hasn't just forgot how to play this bad. It would have been great if Steichen could have stayed with the Eagles and we could see how that played out. But looking at the Colts offense this year with what they have, it has me thinking that the offensive mind has more to do with it then we think

The whole second half I was like one more fg and we good. Never got it. That's pathetic. The defense played good enough to me

Watching the Hurts press conference is sad. This dude looks like he's ready to cry. He looks broken right now.

I don’t feel sorry for the guy. Play ****ing better, stop with the philosophical quotes. Simple as that. A simple we ducked and need to do better and I got to adapt is good enough. I don’t need Aristotle quotes

Currently on vacation in Mexico so I missed the game. I was sure when I woke up from my tequila soaked slumber and checked the score we’d be celebrating.

It’s so frustrating. We all hoped this team could work out its kinks and get better as the season progressed. But it seems our luck ran out and we just aren’t that good. Oh what a difference 3 weeks makes.

It’s unlikely we win a playoff game.

I would like to see some Howie magic this off-season. Entire defense needs to be revamped. OLine probably seeing some major changes as well.

Johnson sucks. Get rid of him.

Our new DC has a reputation for being good via Belichick shine but has never had a top 10 D and most recently put up Sean Desai numbers for 3 seasons as HC in DET
People here in Detroit aren't surprised that a defense with Matt Patricia calling plays allowed Seattle to drive 92 yards in 1:24 and they never had to use their timeout...and that's with Drew Lock at QB. That's inexcusable and its why the Eagles lost.

Here’s what I don’t understand- Sirianni, Hurts, Brown, Smith, Goedert, Gainwell, Scott, the o-line, etc were all on the team last year. If the offensive system change is really to blame for their struggles, surely they would all realize that by now.

Why doesn’t Sirianni just tell Johnson, “To hell with your system, we’re going back to what we did last year. Run that system, the players already know it.”

Are Sirianni, Johnson, and the players somehow incapable of running Steichen’s system? Why? Did Steichen keep some aspect of it a secret from all of them somehow?

On that note, when hiring Steichen’s replacement, why not simply tell the new offensive coordinator “We want to run the same system we ran last year, not “your” system. If you can do that great, if not, goodbye.”

Why would the Eagles want to change offensive systems when things were working so well? I get that defenses catch on and adjust eventually, but if Steichen’s system continues to work somewhere else, defenses evidently haven’t caught on yet.

This loss felt worse than the others

I do agree with this. I still think Eagles will be ok in postseason. It's a tough league. But Seattle is not a good team and Drew Lock is not a good quarterback. It's one thing to lose to San Francisco or Dallas. This was different. Still will be ok though. Will get right over the next 3 games.

We will mask our deficiencies over the next 3 games. We will look mediocre Doing it eeking out wins over terrible teams or worse, even losing one of them.

I haven't felt this dejected in an Eagles seasons since 2010. This just feels like a formality for the rest of the year.

Your team is tons better than that. #3 on today's Power Rankings. https://www.usatoday.com/story/spor...-eagles-cowboys-seahawks-week-16/71968286007/

Positively should go 3-0 to finish out.

Should, yes. But not if the coaching and execution are as bad as they were last night.

USA Today? I mean power rankings are always subjective but I'm not sure how the eagles would be above Dallas, Detroit, Baltimore, Miami hell even KC and Buffalo at this point. Eagles are probably 7-10 in power rankings and that's generous.

feels like a one and done in the playoffs

same. We controlled the game for 3.9 quarters. Giving up a 90+ yard TD drive at the end of that game, to Drew Lock w/out using a timeout was about the most Eagles Defense thing to do. The 35 yard bomb to AJ into double coverage when you need 13 yards to get into FG range was the most 2023 Hurts thing to do.

I sorta blame Johnson for even having that option out there on that last play, but its not like it was Brown or nothing. I'd bet that in reality, in that scenario, that AJ look is like the third option-maybe even not designed into his progressions. The Quez Int is another example. 1st and ten on the 50 with 8 minutes to go, up by 4. Why are you not in burn the clock mode? Why are you taking a 50 yard shot to your fourth receiving option when you are getting back to back to back first downs running the ball, hitting Brown on slants and Smith on comeback routes.

Also, I am really ****ing tired of the complete avoidance of the middle of the field. It seems like every ********* pass is outside the hash marks. We’re effectively eliminating 50% of the field for the defense.

I just don’t understand lots of things about this team.

and the defense continued to get gashed by the run.... just too many fing issues to fix in 3 weeks. and we need some new players.

I dont think we win out and i dont think we win a playoff game. but hey what do i know

I'd place them 6th behind (in no particular order) DET, SF, BAL, KC, BUF. Miami and Dallas aren't a threat. They choke to the legit teams every time. Eagles do have some nice wins, just gotta hope they can get themselves right again in short order.

This thread reminds me of all the guys who wouldn't touch CMac because he's injury prone. People ignore the obvious and focus solely on what happened last week.

At +900 the odds are starting to look tasty. If you play the season out 8 times the Eagles win one Super Bowl.

And I went back and watched and he has Gainwell to his left and there’s no one within 25 yards of him.

Makes it worse when you hear Love in his post game presser say he knew the ball was going to AJ 🤦‍♂️
