2023 Philadelphia Eagles - Complete waste of a season finally comes to an end. (15 Viewers)

Eagles 2023 draft:

1. Jalen Carter, DT, Georgia
1. Nolan Smith, OLB, Georgia
3. Tyler Steen, OL, Alabama
3. Sydney Brown, S, Illinois
4. Kelee Ringo, CB, Georgia
6. Tanner McKee, QB, Stanford
7. Moro Ojomo, DE, Texas

— Acquire RB D’Andre Swift from Detroit.
I’m excited to see what UDFA’s we get too. We almost always pull a quality player from that group.

CB Eli Ricks Alabama signed with the Eagles

that's a sick get

What a steal

Moro Ojomo DT from Texas I got nothing on this guy first pick I don’t know about
One of my favorite DL sleepers. Great run defender, meh pass rusher. Could have easily gone 100+ picks ago. Probably more a 3-4 DE than a 4-3 DT, but that's a small distinction.

Fun fact if anybody cares. With Ojomo picked, that means my entire top-150 got drafted. That's never happened before.

You could use Moro Ojomo’s film as a teach tape on how to play interior run defense.

The Pick was announced from Ghana. (he’s actually Nigerian but still kind of cool.)

Undersized but should be an early down contributor in that ridiculously deep DL rotation y’all have.

Not a ton of stock in *immediate* draft grades, prefer the wait 3 years then grade approach (we all hated the Hurts pick at the time for the most part), but I can't find anywhere where we have less than a B+ grade. Most places have us having the best draft/A+. Throw in Deandre Swift and its a huge huge draft weekend. As someone stated earlier, probably the best draft weekend I have ever witnessed as an Eagles fan (and we just got AJ Brown last year lol). Throw in the fact I got a lot of family member/rival fans telling me "You don't win a Super Bowl on draft weekend/Lot of football moves still to be made/anyone can bust at any time, don't get your hopes up" It tells me that we definitely had an amazing draft. Hell I even saw a report that fellow GM's are something to the tune of "Annoyed b/c Howie Roseman is getting so much praise"

Was listening to some local radio/podcast stuff and man Howie really has learned since the Jalen Reagor pick. Throw in the fact he has more job security as a GM than any other GM not named Jerry Jones (simply b/c he owns the team not b/c he's actually good at the job) he seems to just know how it all works/how to maximize value/how to take advantage of situations. He keeps making chess moves that really pay off and I feel the rest of the NFL, save for a few guys are *way* behind him as a great/effective GM. Might be the most celebrated GM in all of sports, which I admit is kinda weird.

Great draft weekend guys! Next step is checking what the schedule looks like on 5/11. All behold the RE-Loaded Roster of the Philadelphia Eagles!

Apparently Ringo fell a bit due to character (work ethic) concerns. Can't argue with the insane value though...and love that Philly only gave up what should be a fairly late 3 to pick up a very early 4 this year. Howie is the man
this is the funniest thing to me. Falling because of work ethic issues makes some sense, but the kid is 20 years old. LIterally still just a kid, put him in a professional setting, and my guess is his work ethic automatically improves, even if just a bit. Like some of the other guys, i think Philly was a great spot for Ringo to fall into to get the veteran guidance

Exactly. And I think working every day with Slay and Bradberry is going to be really good for him.

Eagles waive DT Marvin Wilson from FSU per Tim McManus
hmm, this is a little interesting. i thought he was okobviosuly a bit down the depth chart. i guess they just have too much depth there, shame they couldn't move him for like a 7th round pick or something

That doesn't really work. Either you have the work ethic or you don't. Kyler Murray needed a study clause in his contract.

Here’s the think and I’ve said this about Embiid when the 76ers drafted him. You go to college and play and it’s like a paid internship (at least now with NIL) for these kids. Think of it as on the job learning co-op experience. Say we’re in an office setting and the one kid does great work but has work ethic or character issues to a degree. You got another guy who isn’t as good but room to improve but mature and reliable. You’re for the most part not taking chances with the great help.

Same here these prospects are investments and if you can’t trust an investment they aren’t as valuable

If I have to put a study clause in someone’s contract they just aren’t as valuable to me. Their *** is as good as gone. A lot of these athletes especially the nba are embarrassingly babied too much. The worst part about the Kyler thing is because of pr backlash they took the clause out. This is why ARZ hasn’t been good for the last 12-13 yrs they run a clown show over there. Gannon and his antics should fit right in over there honestly.

Yeah, Ben Simmons is another example of you can't teach work ethic. Ben Simmons could have played with Kobe Bryant, he wasn't going to develop any different.

Man i know post draft every draft pick looks good and all we see are the highlights of the players drafted. And i know the Eagles got a lot of talent, but i might plant my flag on the guy i am most excited to see is Sydney Brown. With DBs the highlights are always kind of funny because you see the highlights of INTs, and then when you watch you see half of the plays were just flukes or awful passes by QBs. But with Brown, the kid looks like he can do a bit of everything, and is a ball hawk. some big hits which is just a ton of fun and welcome for this team. Sheds blocks and gets to runners and bubble screens, my fingers are crossed we get Brown as one of the starting safeties, and (homer pick sure, but....) and Blanekship as the other. Edmonds can back-up and play soe packages, but i will be happy if we can let these 2 kids get a lot of snaps and see if they can make the group a strength for the team

Agree but I'm a little nervous about him because he played up near the line a ton. He's going to have to play back more with the Eagles. He will.probably be fine but it's still something to remember about him. He might get burned a bit. Esp early

Mekhi Garner, CB, LSU: Garner (6-2, 212) is a big, physical corner who started one year at LSU after transferring from Louisiana. He had 43 tackles and 8 pass breakups last season. (Jordan Schultz, TheScore)

Ben Simmons is weird Jonathan Giovney hit the nail on the head there. Also I saw him at LSU and he was so unimpressive there. He didn't dominate and got pushed around by NBA caliber players. He had offers for Duke and other schools but Chose LSU because he didn't want to share spotlight with others. He should've went to the G League for a year honestly. I think media and fans had tunnel vision as the NBA and Media wanted a new MJ/Kobe to replace Lebron. The 76ers fans/media were desperate for that superstar they hadn't had since AI. At the same time I ran into someone who at the time worked for the 76ers and the team should share blame into how babied he was. Yes Ben deserves a lot of blame but the 76ers painted the brush like they didn't enable his behavior the past few yrs prior. They basically rinsed their hands and had all the blame on him when they had a part in this. But nothing was changing Ben. MJ could've been his teammates and Ben would've retired from Basketball with in a year or 2 of coming in.

Point is in these situations you need the right people around. Ben with the 76ers saw a team who would coddle to the new young prospects in fear if they lost them they'd lose the fans and have a hard time with another tankathon. At the same time you had Brett Brown a family friend to Simmons trying to make it be held accountable but the 76ers higher ups clashed with Brown's way of coaching similar to Popovich. It's just amazing how everyone blames Simmons and the 76ers got away without a scratch on this of any blame on them.

Then you got the eagles across the street who run a tight ship. You **** up you are gone essentially or if you can't mature here it's on you. Need the right environment and people around you.

Howie Roseman confirmed on 94.1 WIP that the Jonathan Gannon compensation for the tampering was handled at the ownership level.

Jeff Lurie cosplaying GM
Pretty furious about it in retrospect. Its not out of bounds to think he was checked out of the playcalling during that game, thinking about the secret deal he made for being a Head Coach in AZ. Various reports are while everyone was somber after the L, Gannon was "giddy"

Add in the fact he lied at the presser about his time in Philly "they wanted me fired, we were 9-0, we had a 30 sack advantage on the team behind us" and also that he spoke to no press during the draft, its safe to say GOOD RIDDANCE. I hope he fails in AZ and never makes it back to the HC level again. Guy is a turd.

I’m honestly shocked this isn’t getting talked about more. It’s the first thing that I thought about when I heard the tampering news.

What I don't understand is why we gave a 5th next year for it. The swap should have been enough.
Bc Lurie negotiated. He's not a GM that has to worry about job security. In the end 2 Billionaires that make money together came together on a deal. These guys overall are friendly to each other, who see each other every year at the owners meetings, while GM's and Coaches change over 10-25% each year.

how would you tell the difference between any other game

Good point. He was the same vs any decent offense. Inept.

He also lied about when he found out about the job. Dude is a fraud and the players will see right through him. AZ comes to town this year, should be fun.

I think Gannon was a fraud. The talent on that Defense covered a multitude of his scheming deficiencies. But, he’s gone and: “Adios, Jonathan! Don’t come back, we changed the locks.”

Stuff I'm glad to flush going into this season:

We will miss Gannon
Zeke to Philly!
Henry to Philly!
Cook to Philly!
Bijan to Philly!
Ya'll lost too many players to be good this year!

Deep-Rooted, Fearless Approach Has Turned Eagles Into Unfailing Winner

<snip>

Stay Aggressive

The Eagles believe we live in an era where aggressiveness wins. The question is how do you become aggressive as an organization or a general manager? Well, you saw it over the weekend.

The Eagles offered a fourth-round pick in 2025 for Swift, which is more like a fifth or sixth in this year’s draft, and Detroit took it. That begs the simple question: Where were the other 30 general managers?

Not to pick on the New York Giants, but they moved up one spot in the first round for a player (cornerback Deonte Banks) who, in all likelihood, would’ve been there if they hadn’t budged. I mention that because it cost them a fifth-rounder they could‘ve used to acquire Swift.

As it turned out, they used their fifth-rounder on Oklahoma RB Eric Gray, which is fine. But they missed a chance to have short-term (Swift) and long-term (Gray) solutions to rest Saquon Barkley, reduce his chances of getting hurt and still have a standout running back on the field.

What about the Dallas Cowboys? Tony Pollard is coming off an injury, is making tag money and may or may not be able to stay healthy. Wouldn’t Swift have been a good addition for a fourth-round pick in two years? Multiple teams would’ve enhanced their chances of reaching this year’s Super Bowl if they added Swift.

Yet, the Eagles got him for next to nothing, just as they got Darius Slay for next to nothing in 2020. Everyone knew teams were trying to move these players, so it wasn’t talent evaluation that separated the Eagles from everyone else. They were just sitting there with an aggressive mindset, flushing out every opportunity to move forward, which is how they also acquired C.J. Gardner-Johnson last year.

Now, they come back and do the same thing with Swift.

These are not hard evaluations. Everyone knew Swift was available for trade. So, is there no general manager who thought he was worth more than a fourth-round choice in two years? What are they thinking? I think it’s clear: They don’t have the same mindset as the Eagles. They’re not approaching this with an aggressive mentality and looking for every opportunity to improve themselves.

<snip>

No Fear of Failure

That’s where fearlessness comes in. The Eagles aren’t afraid of getting something wrong. If Howie makes a trade and misses on a pick, it doesn’t affect the Eagles’ willingness to be aggressive. They jump right back into the boiling water without fear of getting burned.

They trust themselves. They believe they’ll get things right a lot more than they’ll get them wrong. Aggressiveness in football is a winning philosophy, so they just keep going.

This isn’t something new. The Eagles were doing this before the Howie Roseman era. And they’re doing it now in Kansas City, Buffalo and Baltimore. In Kansas City, the head coach, GM and team president came from Philadelphia.

In Buffalo, the driving force there is Sean McDermott. In Baltimore, it’s a little more shared, but John Harbaugh plays a big role. They all have backgrounds with the Eagles and believe in this aggressive, fearless, scheme-matters approach.

Guess what? They’re all doing well. It’s a philosophy that’s been proven right.

For me the "no fear of failure" isn't the same as "fear of losing job"

I don't think there is another GM that has been with the team as long as Howie Roseman, other than GM/Owner Jerry Jones. Jerry has made aggressive moves before, but not in the same stratosphere as Howie and the Eagles. Howie seems to be playing with house money and also, sure seems to have learned from his mistakes. The team is full of guys with chips on their shoulders and I think it starts right here with Howie Roseman, who isn't a football guy, but a laywer/cap guy from his start. After the Super Bowl in 2017, he made it his mission to run it back with older vets and it burned us. Now, he has decided to reload with a youth movement, all while keeping key vets around. After drafting Jalen Reagor and "getting cute" by passing on Justin Jefferson (although he DID draft Jalen Hurts the same draft round 2) he sure seems to have "discovered" the SEC and we have drafted quite a few players from Alabama and obviously Georgia this year. HIs experience pays off too, and he is super secretive about tipping his hand unlike other teams (Yeah you Detroit). He seems to be adept at playing the compensatory pick game as well better than everyone else. It's fun to root for a team that will try to win it every single year no matter what the risk.

The Hayes article was trash, like him. Eskin even bashed him for it because of how untrue the article was.

And aside from Gannon getting the record wrong, he was correct. We wanted him fired every week regardless of how well he did.

We love a good villain
The only thing I'll bash him for is not doing enough to get a single stop in the 2nd half of the SB. Was he distracted by the AZ job? Did he spend some time reviewing AZ players and the team when he should have been prepping for KC? Who knows, but there was enough tampering going on that the Eagles ran it up to the league.

Unless he was distracting by the Arizona job for two years, no. His fatal flaw was lack of adjusting and we saw it last year.

No excuse for not adjusting and getting a single stop with the talent we had. We agree there.
