I’ve been watching way too many Wemby highlights the last few days. What is the earliest point you think he’ll be considered the best player in the world? Am I crazy if I’m thinking Feb 2025?

Well, he's no KAT, that's for sure. Are we even sure Wemby is good?
good grief
Cooper Flagg is all Portland's. It's been in the works since the Dame deal. They will have the worst record in the NBA and the league won't rig the lottery against them a 2nd year in a row. This recent rig job was a tell.
I think there is a decent chance that Wemby is never considered the best player on the planet. Next few years we have Jokic/Luka/SGA/Tatum/Embiid, then it is Cooper Flag time

Guess you didn't notice the Pistons the two years. Portland is guaranteed the 5th pick.
The Kings haven't picked 1.01 since ... 1989 (only 3 top 3 picks since 1979). Though admittedly that complaint rings a little hollow these days since they had Doncic on a platter for them at #2 a few years ago and blew it.Cooper Flagg is all Portland's. Yall had 1.01 a couple years ago, right?
Portland hasn't had that since 2007. It's time for us to screw it up again.

Nobody has been more snakebitten in the lottery.Spurs have only had a four top-three picks since 1776. We're due.

That is a crazy decision. Good for the Knicks. Left 100 million on the table

Crazy that his agent let him do that deal but given all the ties he has to the franchise it makes more sense. Quite refreshing to see an NBA player look out for the team like this ala Mahomes/Brady.
Jalen Brunson isn’t giving up $113 million, that’s not the way to look at this.
There’s a pathway for him to make it up.
Five year max between 2025-2030: five years, $269 million.
Three year maximum extension + first two years of max contract in 2028: five years, $263 million.
I think the $113M being discussed is possibly misleading. According to this tweet, Brunson can opt out after three years and re-extend at a max level for years 4-5 that make up most of the difference between his current extension and the max deal he could have signed in the next offseason. This deal still helps the team massively over the next three years, but I’d be surprised if there isn’t a wink-wink understanding the max is coming down the road.x.com

Now that does involve a pretty significant risk, but I would say it’s fairly common for guys to think this way long-term when they get to a certain echelon. Though this is a riskier move than many others considering his size and that he seemingly will not maintain max value for as long as a wing or even a top 5 center type

When Mahomes signed it was the largest deal in American sports history for any sport.

And probably still underpaid for all that he does in KC relative to other QBs pay/production. I was speaking more to them helping out their teams cap hit by restructuring.
Agree, mahomes was definitely underpaid relative to his true value, even if it was a ton in absolute terms.x.com

Tons of NFL players restruct to help with cap hits.
That is why nobody has ever repeated as champions of the NBA Cup.Yikes, Lakers got in a tough group for the NBA Cup.

Just looking at the draws and saw west group A (wolves, clips, rockets, kings, blazers) and thought , that’s not an easy group, then looked at the other ones in the west and realized A is the easiest.Yikes, Lakers got in a tough group for the NBA Cup.

Disagree with the first sentence but agree with the second sentence. This is a bad result for the NBAPA, and potentially owners of smaller markets as well.Brunson is literally crazy. Players union should jump in front of that contract like they’re trying to stop a train.
Having the Summer League in Vegas is kind of crazy stuff when you think about it. Young guys come into the league and the temptations are so huge to do stupid stuff and waste money and immediately the League is like “why don’t you come hang out in Sin City for 10 days, what could go wrong?”
And in fairness, guys don’t seem to get into trouble.
He's not actually taking less money. This is brilliant media hype by Brunson and his agent.Disagree with the first sentence but agree with the second sentence. I totally understand why he would take less money to stay in NYC with his friends. Making an extra $40 million or whatever over the life of that contract isn't going to substantially increase his happiness in life more than being where he wants with the people he wans around him. I assume he had a conversation with the Nova contingent there as well as Knicks management that he is taking this discount with the understanding that they are going to treat him and his friends well. Ultimately, there is no way to stop them from turning around and trading him or Hart or whatever but that would kill management's reputation around the league.
Frankly, I'm surprised we aren't seeing more of this with these crazy salaries. And as salaries go up 60% or whatever over the next half decade, I think we will see more of this.
Overall 6 for 26 (23% FG%), 0 for 12 from 3, and just 5 assists in 78 minutes.I'm starting to think Bronny James isn't a good shooter.
:ducksforcover:
I have never understood this. Stay in school and play ball part-time while dealing with tests and homework, or go to the league were you have access to the best coaches and trainers in the world and just play basketball and work out all the time. NIL changes it a bit since in the NBA you'd be getting paid versus no pay, but overall if you can get on an NBA (or G-League) roster, you should do it over school.Overall 6 for 26 (23% FG%), 0 for 12 from 3, and just 5 assists in 78 minutes.I'm starting to think Bronny James isn't a good shooter.

On the one hand, it’s not like everyone didn’t know that he’s a project. On the other hand, if he’s this much of a project, probably should have stayed in college for another year or been undrafted.
