What is the youngest a player has ever been considered for the consensus best player in the NBA?
Kareem in his age 23 season?

This will be Wemby's age 21 season. He would also have to leapfrog over some all time players in their prime like Doncic, Jokic, Giannis, and Embiid to get to that point. The Spurs are also not really built around him to be a top 15 team in the NBA yet, which will keep his "stock" down just a bit.
I would say the earliest is 26-27 - Embiid and Giannis will be post prime, Jokic will probably be just about there as well. Their teams will also be on the downside. The Spurs will also have had the time to build a high-level team around him after a couple more offseasons. At that point, he's probably competing with Doncic, SGA, and maaaaybe Tatum or Jokic for best player in the NBA. If I was betting, I would say a couple years after that though because Doncic is that good and the Thunder are built to be a contender for the next half decade plus.

The Kings haven't picked 1.01 since ... 1989 (only 3 top 3 picks since 1979). Though admittedly that complaint rings a little hollow these days since they had Doncic on a platter for them at #2 a few years ago and blew it.

I think the $113M being discussed is possibly misleading. According to this tweet, Brunson can opt out after three years and re-extend at a max level for years 4-5 that make up most of the difference between his current extension and the max deal he could have signed in the next offseason. This deal still helps the team massively over the next three years, but I’d be surprised if there isn’t a wink-wink understanding the max is coming down the road.x.com

Just looking at the draws and saw west group A (wolves, clips, rockets, kings, blazers) and thought , that’s not an easy group, then looked at the other ones in the west and realized A is the easiest.
Sixers got a nice draw and Celtics and Cavs got a pretty easy draw with bulls, hawks and wiz.

Disagree with the first sentence but agree with the second sentence. This is a bad result for the NBAPA, and potentially owners of smaller markets as well.
I totally understand why he would take less money to stay in NYC with his friends. Making an extra $40 million or whatever over the life of that contract isn't going to substantially increase his happiness in life more than being where he wants with the people he wans around him. I assume he had a conversation with the Nova contingent there as well as Knicks management that he is taking this discount with the understanding that they are going to treat him and his friends well. Ultimately, there is no way to stop them from turning around and trading him or Hart or whatever but that would kill management's reputation around the league.
Frankly, I'm surprised we aren't seeing more of this with these crazy salaries. And as salaries go up 60% or whatever over the next half decade, I think we will see more of this.

Having the Summer League in Vegas is kind of crazy stuff when you think about it. Young guys come into the league and the temptations are so huge to do stupid stuff and waste money and immediately the League is like “why don’t you come hang out in Sin City for 10 days, what could go wrong?”

Overall 6 for 26 (23% FG%), 0 for 12 from 3, and just 5 assists in 78 minutes.
On the one hand, it’s not like everyone didn’t know that he’s a project. On the other hand, if he’s this much of a project, probably should have stayed in college for another year or been undrafted.
I don’t blame LeBron and Bronny for playing their cards the way that they played them and I’m sure if I were in their shoes I probably would have done the same. But his performance so far is pretty much just confirming the doubters’ assessment of him. He’s not good enough to be on an NBA team right now and belongs in college or in the G League.

I have never understood this. Stay in school and play ball part-time while dealing with tests and homework, or go to the league were you have access to the best coaches and trainers in the world and just play basketball and work out all the time. NIL changes it a bit since in the NBA you'd be getting paid versus no pay, but overall if you can get on an NBA (or G-League) roster, you should do it over school.

I suppose it depends on how you look at it. It's a max extension in that it is the most the Knicks could have offered because he's on a incredibly team friendly deal now and they can only extend him for 40% more than he is making this season. Any sane person in his shoes would have declined next season's PO, so let's pretend like that doesn't matter for the rest of this discussion.
Next season this extension is going to give him roughly $34.9m, he was eligible (and if he made it to free agency reasonably healthy could have gotten) for 35% of the cap at an assumed $46.4m. Over next season and the following two, he is giving them a total of $37m of discount. He'll opt out of the PO in 28-29 if he is healthy, so there isn't any baked in savings there.
I assume what you were referring to is the 5th year - I do agree that the agent is comparing apples to oranges when making claims of $113m of savings because over half of that "savings" comes in a year which he may be able to recoup that much or more. But, he unequivocally gave them a huge savings for the three seasons after next year.
